| With the vision of great demand of stable, affordable operating system for Internet access and document processing, ThizLinux Laboratory Limited was set up in Hong Kong in January 2000, aiming to provide PC user a cost-effective and user-friendly operating system. Distribution Release: Thiz Linux 7.0 |

Thiz Linux 7.0 has been announced. The Hong Kong based distribution's new features include Kernel 2.4.20; improved peripheral support for USB 2.0, IEEE-1394, hot-plugging, PDAs, digital cameras, webcams and scanners; CD and floppy automount; ext3 and ReiserFS journaling file systems. The graphical desktop is based around XFree86 4.3.0 and KDE 3.1. Includes superior support for both traditional and simplified Chinese character sets; Big5, HKSCS-2001, GB18030, ISO/IEC 10646 and Unicode 3.2 encoding standards are all available. ThizLinux Update |

I received an email from ThizLinux Laboratory to update the previously posted information (see below). The downloadable ISO images have been removed from the company's FTP server - the reason being that they include proprietary and non-distributable Chinese fonts provided by third parties. The company is currently evaluating a possibility to provide free downloads sans the proprietary fonts so if you are interested in this distribution, keep an eye on DistroWatch for further announcements. The official boxed product is now available for on-line orders at the cost of HK$188 (US$24). |

ZerahStar Zesktop
ZerahStar Zesktop was a research and development project of ZerahStar, a Singapore-based Linux company. Its goal was to achieve a totally automated computing system that was capable of maintaining and fixing itself without any need for human intervention. Other possible features would include a highly portable and virus-free environment. Zesktop was still a project and concept under development; currently, only a simple, Gentoo-based live desktop CD exists.
