The developers of PCLinuxOS, an independently-developed desktop Linux distribution with SysV as its preferred init system and a choice of several popular desktops, have announced the release of version 2023.07: "The Pointless Distribution manager has announced updated installation media for KDE Plasma, MATE and Xfce desktops. The following features stand out: new APT, RPM and Synaptic package manager; new mylive-install installer replaces draklive-install; additional configuration utilities were added to supplement the Administration Center; Linux kernel 6.4.7, glibc 2.36, GCC 12.3.0, Mesa 23.1.4, Chromium 114.0.5735.198, Firefox 115.0.3, plus an additional 26 web browsers available in the software repository; LibreOffice 7.5.5 is the default office suite; ufw firewall replaces Shorewall and is enabled by default; all wireless drivers are enabled in the kernel with updated firmware; an additional 3rd party wireless driver repository is available for wireless drivers not included in the kernel; desktops include KDE Plasma 5.27.6, MATE 1.26.1 and XFCE 4.18.4; 64-bit live images are available now." PCLinuxOS, an independently-developed desktop Linux distribution which continues to use SysV as its init system, has been updated to version 2021.02. The new release features updated kernel and applications, as well as improved compatibility with VirtualBox: "PCLinuxOS installation media has been updated so new installations do not require such a large update to get current. This release features Linux kernel and application updates, bug fixes and security updates, with a focus on speed and stability. PCLinuxOS is officially released in three editions: KDE Plasma, MATE and Xfce desktops. Community editions featuring Trinity, Openbox and LXQt desktops are also available. All the editions can run on the computer alone, or in VirtualBox. PCLinuxOS is an old-school, rolling-release desktop distribution and has been serving the Linux community for 18 years. Changes: speed improvements of installation media; better compatibility with VirtualBox; easier guest additions install within Virtualbox; installation support to a f2fs partition; systemd-free since 2003." The PCLinuxOS distribution has released updated install media which carries the version number 2019.11. The new media feature kernel and desktop environment updates for each edition. The project's release announcement offers further details: "The KDE versions both Full and the minimalistic Darkstar contain kernel 5.3.10 plus a fully updated KDE Plasma desktop. Plasma desktop 5.17.3, Plasma Applications 19.08.3 and Plasma Frameworks 5.64.0. The MATE ISO was refreshed with kernel 5.3.10 and the applications and libraries were updated to their most recent stable versions from the previous release. The Xfce ISOs were updated to kernel 5.3.10 including Thunar updated to 1.8.10, xfce4-whiskermenu-plugin to 2.3.4, xfce4-screenshooter 1.9.7 and xfburn-0.6.1 and fully updated from the software repo from the past month. All ISOs received a theme update across the board from GRUB, bootsplash and the desktop. Bluetooth got some work this month and may work better." The PCLinuxOS project has published new install media. The rolling release distribution's latest snapshot carries version number 2019.09 and is available in editions featuring the KDE Plasma, MATE, and Xfce desktop environments. "The KDE versions both full and the minimalistic Darkstar contain kernel 5.2.15 plus a fully updated KDE Plasma desktop. Plasma desktop 5.16.5, Plasma Applications 19.08.1 and Plasma Frameworks 5.62. The MATE Desktop was refreshed with kernel 5.2.15 and the applications and libraries were updated to their most recent stable versions from the previous release. The Xfce desktop was tweaked and now uses the Whisker menu by default. A login sound was added and the applications were updated along with some minor bug fixes. In addition all ISOs now include the NVIDIA 430.50 driver and will be used instead of the nouveau driver if your video card supports it. Hardware detection scripts were updated to provide better support for video cards that can use the NVIDIA 430.50 driver. PulseAudio has been updated to the stable 13.0 release." The developers of PCLinuxOS have announced the release of the project's latest stable build, version 2019.06. This systemd-free and beginner-friendly distribution features the just-released KDE Plasma 5.16 and the very latest Linux kernel 5.1.10: "PCLinuxOS 2019.06 KDE Full Edition has been released and is now available for download. Linux kernel 5.1.10, KDE Applications 19.04.2, KDE Frameworks 5.59.0, KDE Plasma 5.16.0. This ISO image comes with the standard compliment of KDE applications plus LibreOffice. The PCLinuxOS development team has released a new version of the project's rolling-release distribution for the desktop. Featuring a modified Plasma 5 user interface, PCLinuxOS 2017.03 comes with Plasma Desktop 5.8.6 (which is part of the long-term support branch), Linux kernel 4.9.13, updated software packages, and several new applications: "The KDE Plasma 5 ISO image has been updated to version 2017.03. The image includes all of the updates and bug fixes from the past month. The kernel was updated to 4.9.13. KDE components were updated to Plasma 5.8.6 LTS, Frameworks to 5.31.0 and Applications to 16.12.2. Bug fixes include the menu editor, net applet in the system tray, Konsole profile and better defaults for Dolphin and System Tray icons. Bill Reynolds has announced the release of PCLinuxOS 2014.12, the last build in the current series of PCLinuxOS releases before some major upgrades: "PCLinuxOS 2014.12 ISO images have been released for Full Monty, KDE, MATE and LXDE. Highlights include Linux kernel 3.18.1, FFmpeg 2.5.1, MESA 10.4.0, SysVInit (no systemd) and all popular applications such as Firefox, Thunderbird and VLC have been updated to their latest versions. Please note if you have been keeping up with your PCLinuxOS software updates then there is no need to install fresh from a 2014.12 ISO image.
