About Grafpup
Grafpup Linux is a desktop Linux operating system based closely on Puppy Linux. Its goal is to be as useful to graphic designers and other imaging professionals as possible while still remaining extremely small and fast. Grafpup is a live CD of only 75MB with current versions of GIMP, Cinepaint, Inkscape, and Scribus. Grafpup is also very user-friendly, with wizards for doing most system tasks like connecting to the internet and installing to hard disk or USB drive. There is also a powerful package management system, "pupget", with a very extensive and ever increasing list of additional packages available for easy installation.

Nathan Fisher has announced the release of Grafpup Linux 2.00, a Puppy Linux-based distribution with a comprehensive collection of software for graphic designers and other imaging professionals: "Grafpup 2.00 (final) is officially on the mirrors. This release comes with some really bleeding edge features when compared with previous versions, such as a 2.6.20.2 kernel, revamped package management with dependency resolution, GIMP 2.3.14, Cinepaint 0.22 with the Ufraw plug-in, a brand new control panel, cdrkit replacing cdrtools, Openbox replacing IceWM, and a host of other changes. Development Release: Grafpup Linux 2.0 Beta |
Nathan Fisher has announced the availability of a beta release of Grafpup Linux 2.0: "Grafpup 2.0 beta is now released. The main work that went into it has been in the area of bug-fixing, but with a few major package upgrades thrown in for good measure. Cinepaint has been updated to the latest stable 0.22-0 release, now with the new ufraw plugin.. Opera is upgraded to version 9.20. The kernel has once again been recompiled, although we are staying with 2.6.20.2 for the time being. This build fixes several errors with SATA support and some other miscellaneous bugs with hardware. While this release is not final, I consider it to be quite stable and ready for most users." Read the rest of the release announcement for more details. Development Release: Grafpup Linux 2.0 Alpha 3 |
The third development snapshot of Grafpup Linux 2.0 is ready for testing: "The third round of alpha images are now available. There are tons of new features, although it might take a bit of exploring to find them all. I highly recommend reading over the release notes before running. Also, I would run it fresh by using 'grafpup pfix=ram' at the boot prompt, as the upgrade process is a bit untested with all the changes I'm introducing. Note that the plan is for only one more alpha snapshot which will have a new kernel, to be followed by a beta and then the final. Forum registrations are once again open so post bugs and feedback there please." More details in the release announcement and release notes. Development Release: Grafpup Linux 1.0.4 Beta |
A beta release of Grafpup Linux 1.0.4, a light-weight distribution designed for graphics artists, is now available for download and testing: "Announcing the availability of Grafpup Standard 1.0.4 beta. This is a feature-complete release for testing purposes, we are now on a freeze and nothing new will be included in the live CD. Many, if not most, of the small issues and bugs from the pre-release have now been fixed and cosmetically this is very close to how 1.0.4 final will appear. IceWM has been recompiled with antialiasing on and a new data directory path. The Squash utility is now on version 0.5 and includes an early version of Gsquash, the graphical interface." Read the release announcement for more details. Download (MD5): Grafpup_standard-104beta.iso (80.0MB).

Development Release: Grafpup Linux 1.0.4 Pre 1 |
A new pre-release of Grafpup Linux, a Puppy-based distribution tailored to graphic designers and other imaging professionals, is out: "Announcing the availability of Grafpup-104pre1, in 'deluxe' and 'standard' flavors. This is a preview release meant to showcase several new features that are being integrated into the 'official' 104 build, still a bit off. It has most of the functionality you can expect in the finished product but does lack a certain amount of polish right now. GIMP and Cinepaint have both been upgraded to the latest stable releases, while we've moved on up to Opera 9-beta for browsing."
