Runtu
Runtu is a Russian desktop Linux distribution based on Ubuntu's LTS (long-term support) releases. It features full support for Russian and a variety of extra applications, tools and media codecs. There are two separate editions that are produced with a varying degree of frequency; the "Xfce" edition tend to get more attention while the "Lite" edition, featuring the LXDE desktop, is also released and updated from time to time.

A new version of AliXe, a SLAX-based distribution and live CD designed predominantly for French-speaking Canadians, has been released. Version 0.05 is based on the recently released SLAX 5.1.0 Standard edition, with kernel 2.6.16, KDE 3.5 and KOffice 1.4.2. The KDE menu has been translated into French and the live CD supports the French Canadian keyboard. According to the release announcement (in French), this product will be succeeded by two new AliXe editions: "mini" and "plus", the latter of which will include OpenOffice.org, GIMP, Azureus and other applications. AliXe 0.05 is available for download via BitTorrent: alixe05_STD.iso (235MB).

Sylvie Migneault has announced the final release of AliXe 0.11, a SLAX-based live CD featuring the Xfce desktop: "It is my pleasure to announce that the CD of AliXe 0.11 is now finalized. AliXe v0.11 is a bilingual (English and French) live CD based on SLAX, including the Xfce window manager with GTK+ applications. In addition to the correction of bugs and package updates, the CD has had a major transformation and most of the modules have been re-created. This work had two goals: to facilitate the task of remastering the live CD and to write a comprehensive HOWTO. Changes: various problems with localization were corrected; xine, Totem and Audacious were removed, while MPlayer, Gnome MPlayer and Beep Media Player continue to be provided for audio and video playback; MPlayer audio bug fixed; upgraded Firefox 2.0.0.7, Pidgin 2.2.0 and Parted 1.8.8; added Dia 0.96.1." The first release candidate of AliXe 0.11, a French Canadian live CD based on Slackware Linux and SLAX, was announced earlier today. From the changelog: based on SLAX 6.0.0-rc6 with Linux kernel 2.6.21.5; Xfce 4.4.1 desktop with GTK+ applications, including GNOME Office (AbiWord and Gnumeric), GIMP 2.2, Inkscape, Bluefish, Pidgin 2.1.0, Firefox and Thunderbird 2.0.0.6; support for French and English languages; aimed primarily at office use with a number of popular multimedia and Internet applications. AliXe was designed as a simple, yet powerful bootable CD in order to introduce new users to the wonderful world of Linux and open source software. The first release candidate of the AliXe 0.10 live CD, now based on the second pre-release of SLAX 6.0, is out. Compared to the previous release, the new version comes with the following changes: new Linux kernel 2.6.19.3, graphical boot splash; update to all GTK+ applications; new BerryXP theme for the IceWM window manager; new TANGO icon set; addition of PartImage and AIR for the recovery of data; addition of dcfldd, dd_rescue, DiskType, lshw, TestDisk and other useful utilities for data recovery; addition of ClamAV for virus detection; addition of Xdialog for decompressing MO and LZM modules designed for SLAX; addition of two games - Gsudoku and Ltris. AliXe, a Canadian project known for developing a SLAX-based live CD localised into French, has released a bi-lingual (English and French) edition of their latest version. Called "ICE Edition", the new live CD includes the IceWM window manager, together with a range of GTK+ applications, such as AbiWord, Gnumeric, Bluefish, GIMP, Inkscape, Firefox, Sylpheed, Gaim, GParted, Graveman, etc: "AliXe v0.09 ICE edition is a bilingual live CD (English and French). A new minor update to AliXe, a French Canadian variant of the SLAX live CD, complete with French localisation and support for French Canadian keyboards, has been released. Version 0.09 is based on SLAX 5.1.8 "KillBill" edition which comes with the following changes: upgrade to KDE 3.5.4 and recompiled with some Slackware 11.0 fixes; better handling of booting from USB devices; addition NTFS-3g to fully support writing to NTFS partitions; addition of slaxsave.zip to SLAX CD, containing pre-built loop file systems. The new version is based on the recently released SLAX 5.1.7b KillBill Edition, including the Linux kernel 2.6.16.22 and KDE desktop 3.5.3. Koffice productivity suite has been upgraded to version 1.5.2. It also supports the two most commonly used keyboard layouts in Quebec - "cf" and "multilingue". AliXe is a French Canadian Linux live CD based on SLAX. The new version 0.04, released yesterday, is derived from SLAX 5.0.7b with a number of newly updated packages; these include Linux kernel 2.6.15, X.Org 6.9.0, KDE 3.5.0, OpenOffice.org 2.0.1 (replaces KOffice), GIMP 2.2.10, Firefox 1.5.0.1 and Thunderbird 1.5. Two keyboards are supported: Canadian French and Canadian multilingual. A "copy2ram" option is available on systems with the minimum of 512 MB or memory.
