Server Optimized Linux
SoL (Server optimized Linux) was a Linux distribution completely independent from other Linux distributions. It was built from the original source packages and was optimised for heavy-duty server work. It contains all common server applications, and features XML boot and script technology that makes it easy to configure and make the server work.

Muslim Abutaha has announced the first alpha release of Arabian Linux 0.7, an Ubuntu-based live CD with support for Arabic and English languages. From the changelog: "Arabian Linux 0.7 Alpha1 released. Based on Ubuntu 6.06 LTS (Dapper Drake) packages; default file system set to ext3; GRUB is the default bootloader; some options of installer were disabled (not tested yet in the new base); auto detection of Linux distributions installed on hard disk; added Ekiga (aka GnomeMeeting); added Tapioka (Google talk clone)." Arabian Linux is a bootable CD containing the Linux operating system. The goal of the project is to build a simple desktop-oriented distribution that can run from a CDROM or hard drive. Arabian Linux is based on Debian GNU/Linux and Ubuntu.

Arabian Linux 0.6 has been released: "After 4 months without working on Arabian Linux, I'm happy to announce today the final release of version 0.6. There are no big changes between RC1 and this release, a number bug fixes and the Arabic spell checker has been added to OpenOffice.org and aspell. Arabian Linux is a bootable CD with a compilation of GNU/Linux software, full support for Arabic and English languages, and automatic hardware detection. It's the first Arabic live distribution using KDE as the default GUI and the first to have the Arabic language enabled in consoles." "Kernel 2.6.11; XFree86 replaced by X.Org; using LSB color system; interactive boot-up system; added the amod system tools for modules management; added service menu 'Arabian Package' for .deb and .rpm packages; system upgrade now available; added Arabic support in the installer; installer gives an option to choose either LILO or GRUB; NVIDIA 3D driver added, can be enabled by 'nvidia' cheatcode; Java 1.5 enabled by default, Arabeyes/KACST Arabic TTF fonts included; Arabic language is now enabled in consoles (thanks to Arabeyes' Bicon project), Arabeyes' Wordlist (Linux dictionary - Arabic/English) included, new softmodem drivers added...."
