AUSTRUMI
AUSTRUMI (Austrum Latvijas Linukss) is a bootable live Linux distribution based on Slackware Linux. It requires limited system resources and can run on any Intel-compatible system with a CD-ROM installed. The entire operating system and all of the applications run from RAM, making AUSTRUMI a fast system and allowing the boot medium to be removed after the operating system starts.

Madan Puraskar Pustakalaya has announced the availability of an updated release of NepaLinux, a Debian-based distribution with support for the Nepali language: "The new release, NepaLinux 1.1, is a relatively bug-free and revised version of the previous beta release. Special features: Linux kernel 2.6.17; localized GNOME desktop environment 2.14, OpenOffice.org 2.0.2, GnuCash accounting software 2.0.1 SeaMonkey suite; Pango-enabled Firefox 1.5 and Thunderbird 1.5.0.4 with complex text rendering support; updated input system (XKB, SCIM); upgraded spellchecker and thesaurus for Nepali; additional translations of applications (AbiWord, Bluefish, gvim, GnomeBaker, Grip, Gnumeric, etc); better hardware detection and compatibility; enhanced and consistent translation." NepaLinux is a Debian-based distribution localised into Nepali and targeted at general desktop systems of private users, government organisations and schools in Nepal. NepaLinux 2.0 was released earlier this week: "Madan Puraskar Pustakalaya released the localized Linux distribution, NepaLinux 2.0. NepaLinux 2.0 comes up with additional choices to the end-users in the sense that it offers two different localized working desktop environments - GNOME and KDE. NepaLinux 2.0 package comprises of two CDs, with GNOME bundled on one and KDE on the other. Features of NepaLinux 2.0: Linux kernel 2.6.18; localized and updated GNOME 2.14; localized KDE 3.5.5; localized OpenOffice.org 2.2 with upgraded Nepali spell checker; localized SeaMonkey suite; XKB and SCIM input systems...." A beta version of the distribution has been released for download: "With the launching of the software, Nepali people who are using pirated software can use Nepali software free of cost. People can simply download it from the Internet of install in from a CD. Some of the packages included in NepaLinux are Linux kernel 2.6.12, GNOME 2.10 desktop environment, OpenOffice.org 2.0, GIMP graphics editor, IRC Client, Gaim messenger, development tools (includes C and C++)...."
