2007-09-16 Distribution Release: JackLab Audio Distribution 1.0
The first stable release of JackLab, an openSUSE-based distribution designed for musicians, producers and media creators, was announced today: "The technical manager of the JackLab project, Oliver Bengs, released the final 1.0 version of the JackLab Audio Distribution (JAD). JAD 1.0 is based upon openSUSE 10.2, with the addition of a realtime kernel for fast audio processing and a professional audio server - JACK. JackLab 1.0 is the most comprehensive selection of open source audio and multimedia software to date. The Enlightenment D17 window manager (with 'KDE-lite' tweaks) is used by default. Unlike other existing Linux audio distributions (64 Studio, Ubuntu Studio, Musix, dyne:bolic) JAD 1.0 offers complete support for ASIO. In addition, native VST for Linux is supported by JOST, a small modular host." Read the rest of the press release for further details. Download: JAD-1.0.iso (1,616MB, MD5); also available via BitTorrent.
2007-07-09 Development Release: JackLab Audio Distribution 1.0 Beta 2
The JackLab project has announced the second beta release of JackLab Audio Distribution (JAD) 1.0, a Linux distribution combining an openSUSE base system with the Enlightenment 17 window manager to provide a complete operating system for musicians, producers and media creators: "Today, the JAD developers released the second BETA version of their JackLab Audio Distribution for interested BETA testers. JAD 1.0 is based on openSUSE 10.2, but was adjusted to suit the requirements of the creative user. For music applications the real-time kernel 2.6.19 provides a low latency JACK audio system. The 1.4 GB installation DVD offers about 80 applications covering the audio sector with full VST and multimedia codecs support. A live DVD with an optional installer will be also available in the next days." Read the rest of the release announcement for full details. Download: JAD-1.0-beta2.iso (1,556MB, MD5).
2007-01-26 Development Release: JackLab Audio Distribution 0.1 Alpha 1
JackLab Audio Distribution is a new Linux project based on openSUSE and featuring a real-time kernel, Jack Audio Connection Kit and the Enlightenment desktop. The first public alpha build was released earlier today: "The JackLab Team is proud to present the first public alpha release of the JackLab Audio Distribution (JAD). JAD is fully compatible with the recently released openSUSE 10.2. It contains a full production environment for media production, primarily music. For this, the JackLab team added a real-time kernel version 2.6.19 to have fast audio processing with a latency up to 1.5ms. The default audio system is based on the Jack Audio Connection Kit (JACK) which is designed for the needs of musicians and producers and gives a professional audio/midi controlling interface." Visit the project's home page to read the full release announcement. Download: JAD-0.1-alpha1.iso (1,272MB, MD5); also available via BitTorrent.
