| Ubuntu Christian Edition is a free, open source operating system geared towards Christians. It is based on the popular Ubuntu. Along with the standard Ubuntu applications, Ubuntu Christian Edition includes the best available Christian software. The latest release contains GnomeSword, a top of the line Bible study program for Linux based on the Sword Project. There are several modules installed with GnomeSword including Bibles, Commentaries, and Dictionaries. Ubuntu Christian Edition also includes fully integrated web content parental controls powered by Dansguardian. A graphical tool to adjust the parental control settings has also been developed specifically for Ubuntu Christian Edition. The goal of Ubuntu Christian Edition is not to bring Christianity to Linux but to bring Linux to Christians.

Jereme Hancock has announced the release of Ubuntu Christian Edition 12.04, an Ubuntu-based desktop Linux distribution designed for Christians, as well as churches, Bible study schools and other religious organisations: "Ubuntu CE 12.04 has been released. What's new? Built of Ubuntu 12.04.1 LTS; system management (dconf tools, Synaptic package manager, BleachBit, gAlternatives, gnome-tweak-tool with advanced settings, ubuntu-tweak); daily usage (WINE and WineTricks, Google Chrome, VLC, MyUnity, terminator, Nautilus scripts for better file management); Bible software (Quelea, Bibledit, Verse, Xiphos, OpneLP). Customizations ranging from artwork, themes and icons along with the PPAs added to enable more artwork installation. David Kuntadi has announced the availability of the beta release of Ubuntu Christian Edition 6.0, a distribution based on Ubuntu 9.10 and incorporating a variety of Christian and parental control software: "Ubuntu Christian Edition 6.0 beta release. One problem with the Ubuntu 9.10 release is a bug in DansGuardian, but Ubuntu Christian Edition 6.0, based on Ubuntu 9.10, comes with DansGuardian enabled and fully functional. In addition, the DansGuardian GUI now makes Internet filtering and sharing easy. With just a few clicks, you would be able to share Internet connection to your LAN, with or without Internet filtering. There is a major change in e-Sword installer as well, it now uses WINE stable (1.0.1) instead of WINE development. In addition to the desktop edition, we have also released a server edition." We also have a new development team and focus. The release of Ubuntu Christian Edition 5.0, based on Ubuntu 9.04, is now available for download as well as from our repository. This has been a request from the very beginning. We are excited that now Ubuntu users can simply install Ubuntu Christian Edition using APT or Synaptic. This release is a back-to-basics release and should be considered beta at this point. We are focusing on the functionality for now and will work towards the aesthetics." Jereme Hancock has announced the release of Ubuntu Christian Edition 4.0: "We are excited to announce the release of Ubuntu Christian Edition 4.0. Ubuntu Christian Edition has been on hold for quite a while for various reasons, but we are back up and running. This is a 'back to the basics' release. We have discontinued most of the Windows program installers that we had in previous releases due to the difficulty in maintaining them and changes in some of the Windows programs that made it very difficult to install them automatically. We have added BibleTime as well as a bunch more resources for BibleTime and GnomeSword. We have replaced OpenOffice.org with GNOME Office to keep the ISO size below the 700 MB threshold. This toolbar gives quick access to many of the great tools available at WhatWouldJesusDownload, the parent site of the Ubuntu CE project. This release fixes one potentially serious bug in the IEs4Linux Installer. The IEs4Linux Installer was deleting the bin folder that it created from the users home directory during the clean up process. This release also marks the end of the Ubuntu CE Installer. The Ubuntu CE Installer allowed users to easily add additional Christian and Educational programs to Ubuntu CE. Jereme Hancock has announced the availability of Ubuntu Christian Edition 3.0, now based on the recently released Ubuntu 7.04: "We are very excited to announce the release of Ubuntu CE v3.0 (Feisty). The main change is, of course, that this release is based directly on Ubuntu 7.04 'Feisty Fawn'. The most visible addition is the Daily Bible Verse displayed on the desktop. This is accomplished using gDesklets and the Bible RSS desklet built specifically for Ubuntu CE. The theme and graphics have all been updated. This includes the addition of translucent backgrounds for the Gnome panels. This gives the desktop a much more polished look.
