An updated version of SystemRescueCd, a specialist, Gentoo-based mini distribution designed for disk partitioning and data rescue tasks, is out. From the changelog: "Updated ntfs-3g to 1.1004; updated Parted to 1.8.8; new sources for the default kernel (rescuecd and rescue64); fix - option setkmap was broken in sysresccd-custom script; fix: network booting via PXE was broken on 64-bit (rescue64); fix - docache was broken with the hard disk easy installation; updated Oscar (French tool to backup data); added option boothd=xxx (boot an installed Linux from hard disk); added raid monitoring tools (mpt-status and cciss_vol_status)." | SystemRescue is an Arch-based Linux system on a bootable CD-ROM or USB drive, designed for repairing a system and data after a crash. It also aims to provide an easy way to carry out administration tasks on a computer, such as creating and editing hard disk partitions. It contains many useful system utilities (GNU Parted, PartImage, FSTools) and some basic ones (editors, Midnight Commander, network tools). It aims to be very easy to use. The kernel of the system supports all of today's most important file systems, including ext2, ext3, ext4, ReiserFS, Reiser4FS, btrfs, XFS, JFS, VFAT, NTFS, ISO9660, as well as network file systems, such as Samba and NFS.

François Dupoux has made available a new major release of SystemRescue, an Arch-based specialist Linux distribution for repairing computer systems and rescuing data. SystemRescue 12.00 updates the Linux kernel to the latest long-term supported (LTS) branch, version 6.12.19, while the included Firefox web browser was brought to version 128.8.0, the latest extended-support release (ESR). Also, the SystemRescue live image now includes bcachefs, a Linux filesystem with support for volume management. The distribution comes with the Xfce desktop which has received an update to version 4.20.1. "Changelog: updated the kernel to the long-term supported Linux 6.12.19; support for bcachefs (kernel module + file system tools + support in GParted); applied workaround to avoid possible display issues affecting GRUB; updated disk utilities: GParted 1.7.0, nwipe 0.38, dump 0.4b49." SystemRescue, a specialist live Linux distribution based on Arch Linux and designed for administrating and repairing computer systems and rescuing files, has been updated to version 11.0. The new release introduces the 6.6 LTS Linux kernel, provides some bug fixes, and adds several new utilities: "Updated the Linux kernel to the long-term supported Linux 6.6.14; added option 'ssh_known_hosts' in yaml configuration to trust SSH CAs signatures on host keys; fix the 'findroot' boot option when /sbin/init is an absolute symlink; fix the 'findroot' loop when the password to any encrypted device is unknown; update Xfce configuration (enabled screen saver, added battery icon); package 'dstat' has been replaced with 'dool' which is a fork of dstat; added bcachefs-tools (file system utilities for bcachefs, no kernel module yet); added blocksync-fast (block device sync tool for block-based backups); added sleuthkit (tools for raw file system inspection); added timeshift (snapshot-based backup program)." The new version brings the Linux kernel version up to the 6.1 branch, which is currently the latest long-term supported one. It is based on Arch Linux and features the Xfce desktop. The major version change is the result of the distribution's renaming from SystemRescueCd to SystemRescue, as well as a new domain name, but otherwise it is just a routine upgrade from the 6.x series. From the changelog: "Renamed project from SystemRescueCd to SystemRescue; new website address - system-rescue.org; updated Linux kernel to long-term-supported linux 5.4.71; added dislocker to access disks encrypted using BitLocker (#46)."
