Joern Lindau has announced the release of Toorox 06.2009, a Gentoo-based live DVD featuring the latest KDE 4: "Toorox 06.2009 is finished now. As always, the KDE was updated to the latest version 4.2.4. The recent CVS snapshot of the lancelot_part plasmoid was included because Qt was updated to 4.5.1 and the old version of the plasmoid had some trouble with it. The USB stick creator script was optimised; now there are three options - static, personal and encrypted. For the last two options the home folder will be stored and with the remaining option even password-encrypted when shut down. Now two partitions will be created - ext2 for Toorox and FAT32 for regular data storage on the pen drive. Some users had kernel panics after installation and booting from an USB hard disk - this has been fixed." Here is the brief release announcement. Download: Toorox_06.2009.iso (1,713MB, MD5).

Distribution Release: Toorox 01.2013 "KDE" |
Jörn Lindau has announced the release of Toorox 01.2013 "KDE" edition, a Gentoo-based distribution and live CD featuring the KDE 4.9.4 desktop environment: "Toorox 01.2013 'KDE' has been finished and you can download it as 32-bit or 64-bit image. This release is based on the latest Linux kernel 3.7.1. All packages have been updated. KDE has been updated to the latest version, 4.9.4. The release also contains X.Org Server 1.13.0, LibreOffice 3.6.4.3, Chromium 24.0.1312.45, VLC 2.0.5, WINE 1.5.20, GIMP 2.8.2. With this release, Toorox makes use of UUIDs instead of simple device names in the fstab file. So a ramdisk (initramfs) is now necessary after the installation for booting the system from hard disk. Development Release: Toorox 03.2011 |
Jörn Lindau has announced the availability of a new development version of Toorox, a Gentoo-based desktop distribution, which previews the latest development snapshot of GNOME 3: "The next generation of the GNOME 3.0 desktop is near completion. If you want to test it, you can get the recent development release of Toorox 03.2011 'GNOME3-RC'. It's only available as a 32-bit image. It contains Linux kernel 2.6.37, GNOME 3.0 RC, X.Org Server 1.9.5, LibreOffice 3.3.2, IceCat 3.6.16.... Attention should be paid to the fact, that GNOME 3 needs accelerated graphics support. If the video driver doesn't support this, the desktop will start in a fallback mode" which can't represent all of the functions and the look and feel of the new generation of GNOME. This will happen, for example, if you have an NVIDIA graphics card. But this is no problem - click on Systemconfig in the black panel and start the NVIDIA driver." Here is the full release announcement with screenshots. Download: Toorox_03.2011-32bit_GNOME3-RC.iso (1,482MB, MD5).
