Ben Zhao has announced the release of CDlinux 0.9.5, a compact, minimalist live CD with the Xfce desktop and several popular applications: "This is yet another maintenance release concentrating on stability and usability. There are only a few new features: UTF-8 console (use the 'fbcon' command); add AbiWord back and upgrade to 2.8.1; Korean support; more optional add-on modules. And some bug fixes: fix a bug in the drcom package; modify rc.font to omit removable devices. Package upgrades: Linux kernel 2.6.31.6, X.Org Server 1.6.5, CUPS 1.4.2, Poppler 0.12.2, Samba 3.4.2, Firefox 3.5.5, JRE 6 u17. CDlinux 0.9.5 will be the last version using the good old X.Org 7.4. Ben Zhao has announced the release of CDlinux 0.9.7, a compact mini live CD featuring the Xfce desktop and just a handful of popular applications: "This is a development release, built with GCC 4.6 toolchain. In fact, every bit in 0.9.7 was rebuilt from scratch and almost all components were upgraded to their latest stable versions. Major user noticeable changes in 0.9.7 are: Squashfs 4 - 0.9.7 now uses the new Squashfs 4 file system (if you want to convert your Squashfs 3 .md files to Squashfs 4 please use 'unsquashfs3' and 'mksquashfs'; hybrid ISO image - you can 'dd' the 0.9.7 ISO image onto a USB stick and boot from it; Amount - CDlinux' own hotplug solution to replace HAL/udisks. The package upgrade list is huge, some major ones: Linux kernel 3.1, glibc 2.14.1, GCC 4.6.2, X.Org Server 1.11.2, Firefox 8.0." Ben Zhao has announced the release of CDlinux 0.9.6, a small live CD featuring the Xfce desktop, several popular desktop applications and a handful of administration tools: "CDlinux 0.9.6 released. This release is a major upgrade. Almost all components are upgraded to their latest stable versions, like Linux kernel 2.6.33.2, X.Org Server 1.8.0, Mesa 7.8.1. Thanks to the open source ATI and Intel drivers, we now have fairly good 2D/3D support on almost all ATI and Intel chip-based video cards. PAE is also enabled in this release. As a result, we can support up to 64 GB of RAM now. While the downside is that you can't run CDlinux 0.9.6 on older CPUs (i386, K6, Pentium, etc.) any more, not even the Mini edition. CDlinux is a compact live CD from China suitable for use as a mobile system or a rescue tool. Half a month after our CDlinux 0.9.2 review, the developer announced a new release, CDlinux 0.9.3: "This version added two missing blocks to CDlinux: devel and dri. The new devel module is an attempt to help users compile additional drivers and applications for CDlinux. It now supports compiling the official Linux kernel as well as some third-party kernel modules. And Mesa3D was added to the Community edition for those who may want to run 3D applications or games. This version also fixed several bugs found in previous versions: a possible race between amount and hal, a bug that prevents udev's persistent rules from working properly, and a bug that may make CDlinux fail to save persistent data. Ben Zhao has announced the release of CDlinux 0.9.2, a compact live CD suitable for use as a mobile system or rescue tool: "As the 3rd release of the 0.9 series, 0.9.2 puts emphasis on stability and usability. This is mainly a bug fix release with a few new features. Several bugs found in 0.9.0 and 0.9.1 were fixed: a bug in the installation wizard was fixed, now installation of CDlinux to Windows 2000, XP and 2003 C: drive works again; another bug in the installation wizard was fixed, now you can boot directly from the ISO image and install CDlinux without actually burning a CD; a bug in the rc.swap script that caused CDlinux fail to setup pagefile.sys as swap on some VFAT partition was fixed; a bug in CUPS was fixed, now printing works again; WINE was downgraded to stable 1.0.1." This is a yet another big leap towards CDlinux 1.0, integrating many new features and enhancements, including: a new GUI installation and upgrade wizard; rewrite the 'persistent mode' code and save persistent data as Squashfs; replace Fcitx with SCIM to support input method for more locales; add full support for German, French, Japanese and Russian; add support for 'Safe Graphics Mode' in case native X.Org driver fails; determine better whether to run in RAM or loop mode; some fine-tuning to improve performance on machines with low memory; many package upgrades, including Linux kernel 2.6.28.4, Firefox 3.0.6, Ghostscript 8.64, GIMP 2.6.4, JRE 6u12, Wine 1.1.14." CDlinux 0.6.1, or Compact Distro Linux, is a 60 MB mini-distribution with the latest Linux kernel, X.Org, Xfce window manager, and a handful of desktop applications. A new version 0.6.1, together with a revamped project web site, was unveiled today: "The CDlinux team is proud to announce the release of CDlinux 0.6.1. This release is a minor bug fix and has some major feature enhancement. It ships with Linux kernel 2.6.24.5, X.Org 7.3, Xfce 4.4.2, Firefox 2.0.0.14, Pidgin 2.4.1, xine 1.1.12, and many other up-to-date popular applications. All these are packed in a 57 MB ISO image. This release fixes a quote bug in rc.modules. It has newly added support for touchpads, LZMA compression, PDF file, and improved support for desktop icons.
