Kevin Thompson has announced the release of Element 1.4, a Xubuntu-based distribution designed for home theatre personal computers: "The Element team is pleased to bring you Element OS 1.4 after a two-week delay. We had been experiencing some problems that were introduced in the build cycle such as HDMI audio failure in Firefox, but that has now been alleviated. Notable changes from 1.3 to 1.4 include: Firefox web browser has been updated to version 3.6.8 and as usual configured for ten-foot interfaces; E-Bar editor has undergone a minor revision of its toolbar and some usability changes; HDMI audio switch has undergone minor revisions and now displays your current settings and configurations; Element slim settings, labeled login settings in the menu is a new utility that includes the ability to switch between several login themes...." Kevin Thompson has announced the release of Element 1.3, a Xubuntu-based distribution for home theatre personal computers: "We are pleased to announce the immediate availability of Element OS 1.3. This is the first version of Element OS to provide streaming content services out of the box through the inclusion of the Cooliris media browser. Cooliris brings to Element OS tens of thousands of web videos, TV shows, movies, and music videos from all the major networks, studios, and web channels. Categorized, searchable, and all presented in a unique 3D media wall. We also continue our gradual improvements to the 1.x series with new versions of the update manager, HDMI audio switch, and a new interface setup for Firefox. This version is based on Xubuntu 9.10; featured software includes Linux kernel 2.6.31, Xfce 4.6.1, XBMC 9.11, Firefox 3.5.9, Decibel audio player 1.01, Pidgin 2.6.5, Transmission 1.75, AllmyApps.com 9.10 integration, custom GTK+ themes, and version 1.0 of the Element application finder." Katie McCarley has announced the release of Element 1.2, an Ubuntu-based distribution for home theatre or media-centre personal computers: "The Element team is pleased to announce the immediate availability of Element version 1.2. This version includes general package upgrades and upstream bug fixes to the application stack in addition to introducing three new utilities: E-Bar Editor - a minimal and to-the-point configuration editor for the central launcher bar; NVIDIA HDMI Audio Switch - a simple on/off switch that channels audio through the HDMI port on ION and 8X00 series cards; Update Manager - a fork of the standard Update Manager from Ubuntu and GNOME, packaged and configured for use on Element with distribution upgrade options omitted. Other important features and requests include the addition of Thunar file sharing plugins, easier Bluetooth setup, removal of Compiz window effects, and an optimized package list." This is the first service pack for the Element 1 series operating system; it includes several requested features, general package upgrades, upstream bug fixes, and visual enhancements to our themes. Notable additions in this release include: Element 'Glassy' default theme is a little quicker now and uses fewer pixmaps, it also includes new scrollbars; Jockey-Gtk 'Hardware Driver' utility has replaced EnvyNG as the default means for managing proprietary video and device drivers; over-scanning on NVIDIA cards is much easier; Gigolo remote file system browser has been added...." After many months of testing and experimentation, the final release of Element version 1.0, an Ubuntu-based distribution designed for home theatre or media centre personal computers, is available for end users: "This version is based on and thus binary compatible with Ubuntu 9.10. Featured software in this release includes Linux kernel 2.6.31, Xfce 4.6.1, XBMC 9.11, Firefox browser 3.5.7, Transmission 1.75, AllmyApps.com 9.10 integration, custom GTK+ themes, and version 1.0 of the Element App Finder (based on Xfce-App-Finder)."
