The Super OS developer has announced the release of Super OS 10.10, an Ubuntu-based distribution with pre-installed multimedia codecs, extra applications, and other user-friendly features: "Here is Super OS 10.10, 32-bits edition. Changes: based on Ubuntu 10.10; easy installation of NVIDIA, ATI and Broadcom drivers, even without an Internet connection; USB Creator - live USB creator right from the DVD menu (replacing cd2usb); Java re-added, replacing OpenJDK (only Java works with some banking websites); all software in the Super OS repository updated to their latest versions; additional Multimedia support: VLC, DVD playback, MP3 and support and for other formats, including QuickTime, Real video, Windows Media video, Flash, DivX, Xvid...." About Super OS

Super OS (formerly Super Ubuntu) is a modified version of Ubuntu with the goal of making it more usable, in particular for users without an internet connection, while trying to remain compatible with Ubuntu. Features compared to Ubuntu include better multimedia support, improved Internet experience (aMSN, Opera, Flash), App Runner, and other software, such as Java, Ubuntu Tweak and live USB creator.

Joaquim Salvador has announced the release of Super OS 11.10, an Ubuntu-based distribution with extra applications, media codecs, browser plugins and other enhancements: "Super OS 11.10 released. New: improved multi-language support with additional translations and language-specific fonts; improved virtual machine support (VirtualBox and VMware); added programs - Audacity, Blender, OpenShot, PiTiVi, MyPaint, Pinta, Inkscape, Pidgin, GIMP, Synaptic, VirtualBox, Thunderbird, Gdebi, OpenJDK; removed Java (replaced with OpenJDK); Firefox, Google Chrome and Opera, all of them with support for webm and Adobe Flash content. Super OS (formerly Super Ubuntu) is a variant of Ubuntu 11.10 with added software and tools, with the goal of making it more usable, in particular for users without an Internet connection." Super OS 11.04, an Ubuntu-based desktop distribution enhanced with extra software, drivers and multimedia codecs, has been released: "Here it is, the new Super OS 11.04. New features: based on Ubuntu 11.04; Unity 3D, the new interface introduced in Ubuntu 11.04; LibreOffice, replacing OpenOffice.org; Ayatana overlay scrollbars, to reduce used screen space; Firefox 4, Google Chrome 11 and Opera 11, all of them with support for the new WebM format (Adobe Flash 10.3 in all of them); improved offline installation of drivers, and more drivers added - NVIDIA, ATI and Broadcom; more software added to the local repository, like WvDial (PPP dialer) and NDISwrapper (installation of Windows WiFi drivers); all software in the Super OS repository updated to their latest versions. Details: the much awaited 64-bit edition is now available, and it includes ia32 libraries to improve compatibility with 32-bit applications; Wubi was re-introduced after a brief absence in Super OS 9.10; the included cd2usb is now 100% mouse-driven, no more CLI-style interfaces; Java was replaced with OpenJDK; most software updated - Firefox 3.6.8, Google Chrome 6, Opera 10.61; KDE and some Qt libraries previously included were removed to free up some space; Moonlight removed due to a bug in the Ubuntu packages." Super OS is a Linux distribution that can be described as an Ubuntu enhanced with various extra software and features for improved out-of-the-box usability. Version 9.10, announced a few hours ago, adds the following applications and features: "Better multimedia support - VLC, support for DVD-playback, support for MP3 and other media formats, like QuickTime video, Real video, Windows Media Video, Flash Video, DivX, Xvid; Internet software - aMSN, Opera, Google Chrome, Skype, Firefox with Flash and Moonlight; portable applications available (RUNZ included); programs are easier to run - App Runner is included; mount tar.gz, .zip, .rar and .iso files with file mounter; other software - Java, Ubuntu Tweak; system beep is disabled; Super OS now has its own repository, in addition to the official Ubuntu repositories; most commonly used KDE and Qt libraries included."
