Liraz Siri has announced the release of TurnKey Linux 12.1, a maintenance update of the project's Debian-based set of virtual appliances that attempt to integrate the best open-source software into highly specialised and ready-to-be-deployed solutions: "TurnKey Linux 12.1 is out and it's the first 64-bit maintenance release to be built with tkldev - TurnKey's shiny new open appliance build system in a box. With 64-bit support out the door, we've also pushed out a round of updates to the Hub so that users can finally deploy TurnKey on all instance sizes. Full details on the changes to the Hub below, but first I'd like to talk a little bit about tkldev, TurnKey's new open build system. tkldev will soon be released as a standalone appliance along with the full source code to all appliances in the TurnKey Linux roster, which we will be maintaining on TurnKey's GitHub page." Read the rest of the release announcement for more information. The 100+ TurnKey Linux virtual appliances are available for download from SourceForge. |

Distribution Release: TurnKey Linux 17.0 |
Jeremy Davis has announced the release of TurnKey Linux 17.0, a new stable version of the project's highly-specialised, single-purpose set of server appliances. The project's version 17.0 is based on Debian 11 and includes an experimental build for Raspberry Pi 4 computers: "I'm excited to finally announce the stable release of Turnkey 17.0. It has been a bit of a slog, taking way longer than I had hoped and there are only two this time. Regardless, we've finally made it to the stable release milestone, at least for Core and TKLDev. Hopefully we can keep the momentum up and have more v17.0 appliances ready really soon! In the meantime, these two new version 17.0 appliances are published to our mirror network and are also available for download direct from their relevant appliance pages or launched directly from the Hub. Finally, whilst I can't take any credit at all, I'm super excited that community member Yannick has produced 'preliminary' Raspberry Pi 4 builds." See the release announcement for further details. Here are the download links to the "Core" and "TKLDev" (TurnKey Development Toolchain and Build System) editions: turnkey-core-17.0-bullseye-amd64.iso (339MB, SHA512, signature, pkglist), turnkey-tkldev-17.0-bullseye-amd64.iso (419MB, SHA512, signature). |

Distribution Release: TurnKey Linux 16.0 |
Jeremy Davis has announced the release of TurnKey Linux 16.0, a new stable version of the project's specialised, single-purpose server appliances. This is the distribution's first release based on Debian 10: "With great excitement and a sense of relief, it is my immense pleasure to announce the highly anticipated and well overdue first batch of version 16.0 stable TurnKey Linux appliances. These may well be our best appliances yet, although we'll allow you to be the judge of that. Most of the significant changes in version 16.x have occurred under the hood. As noted in the release candidate announcement the main changes have generally been at the software level, although much of the work will likely not be immediately obvious to an end user. In some instances, we have moved from our own forks of software (e.g. Casper for live ISO functionality) to Debian defaults ('live-boot' and 'live-tools'). In other instances, our custom software has been ported to a newer version of the language." Read the complete release announcement for further information. In this first batch, ten server appliances are available from the project's download server; here are the quick links to the "Core" and "TKLDev" (TurnKey Development Toolchain and Build System) editions: turnkey-core-16.0-buster-amd64.iso (314MB, SHA512, signature, pkglist), turnkey-tkldev-16.0-buster-amd64.iso (373MB, SHA512, signature). |

Distribution Release: TurnKey Linux 15.0 |
Jeremy Davis has announced the release of TurnKey Linux 15.0, a large set of single-purpose server appliances for various specialist tasks: "I am overjoyed to announce stage 1 of the TurnKey 15.0 stable release is now available. Stage 1 includes nearly half the library (47 appliances to be precise), albeit only in ISO format so far. We are busily preparing updated Hub builds, as well as Amazon MarketPlace builds which I hope to announce very soon too. All the other build types (i.e. VM/OVA, OpenStack, Proxmox/LXC, Xen and Docker) will follow soon after. The relevant 15.0 ISOs are all available for download via the '15.0' links on their respective appliance pages. Updated appliances for this stage include Core LAMP, WordPress, Joomla 3, Drupal 7, Drupal 8 and more. 15.0 changes worthy of particular note include a new Debian base operating system, inclusion of PHP 7, MariaDB replaces MySQL, a new Webmin theme, Reproducible Packages and website upgrades...." Read the comprehensive release announcement for a full list of changes. The 47 server appliances currently available can be downloaded from the project's download server; here are the quick links to the "Core" and "TKLDev" (TurnKey Development Toolchain and Build System) editions: turnkey-core-15.0-stretch-amd64.iso (252MB, SHA512, signature, pkglist), turnkey-tkldev-15.0-stretch-amd64.iso (301MB, SHA512, signature). |

Development Release: TurnKey Linux 15.0 RC1 |
Jeremy Davis has announced the availability of the first release candidate for TurnKey Linux 15.0, an upcoming new build of the project's set of virtual appliances designed for highly specialised severs: "It is with great pleasure that I announce the release of Core 15.0RC1 and TKLDev 15.0RC1. With Debian Stretch out now for about 8 months, I had hoped to have this release finished long ago and perhaps even be working on v15.1. But unfortunately, wishes and hopes don't always have much to do with reality. Whilst I've more or less been in the release development driver seat since 14.0, this release has been my first full development of an TurnKey OS base transition. Alon did most of the initial development work migrating from a Wheezy base to Jessie, for Core and TKLDev 14.0RC1. It taken me a lot more effort that I had anticipated. We've now gone from Debian 8/Jessie (basis of 14.x) to 9/Stretch (basis of 15.x)." Read the full release announcement for further details. Download the "Core" and "TKLDev" (TurnKey Development Toolchain and Build System) editions from here: turnkey-core-15.0rc1-stretch-amd64.iso (205MB, SHA256, pkglist), turnkey-tkldev-15.0rc1-stretch-amd64.iso (301MB, SHA256). |

Distribution Release: TurnKey Linux 14.1 |
The TurnKey Linux project has announced the release of a new version of the project's many server appliances. The new version, TurnKey Linux 14.1, is based on Debian's Stable branch and features many bug fixes. "The v14.1 release sees a massive amount of bugs squashed and features added (43 and 20 respectively; plus some other more generic issues). It's fantastic to squash so many bugs this release. One of the bugs we've finally fixed was reported all the way back in 2012! It's a bit embarrassing to have a bug hang around that long; but it's a massive relief to finally close it! All v14.1 appliances are built on Debian 8.4 and include all the latest Debian security fixes and package updates, as well as the latest TurnKey software updates. TurnKey updates include TKLBAM, confconsole, inithooks (including significant improvements to the fence - relevant to headless builds only) and deck (TKLDev only). All appliances have more strict password complexity requirements now too. They require minimum 8 characters with at least one of each: uppercase, lowercase and number(s)." Additional information and can be found in the project's release announcement. There are approximately 100 downloadable appliances in all. |

Distribution Release: TurnKey Linux 14.0 |
Jeremy Davis has announced the release of TurnKey Linux 14.0, a major new version of the project's extensive set of highly specialised virtual appliances made for severs. The new version is for 64-bit systems only, it is based on Debian GNU/Linux 8.0, and it includes a number of interesting new appliances: "Ansible is an IT automation tool, it can configure systems, deploy software, and orchestrate more advanced IT tasks such as continuous deployments or zero downtime rolling updates. EspoCRM is light-weight CRM platform targeted at small to medium business. The Foodsoft appliance has been a long time coming. Laravel is a PHP framework with the tagline of 'The PHP Framework For Web Artisans'. SuiteCRM is a CRM suite forked from SugarCRM provided with additional modules." See the full release announcement for more information. TurnKey Linux 14.0 is released as a set of 105(!) CD images available from these mirrors. We won't be able to fit them all into this short announcement, but perhaps there is space for a few of the more popular ones: turnkey-lamp-14.0-jessie-amd64.iso (257MB), turnkey-nodejs-14.0-jessie-amd64.iso (319MB), turnkey-fileserver-14.0-jessie-amd64.iso (243MB), turnkey-wordpress-14.0-jessie-amd64.iso (281MB). |

Development Release: TurnKey Linux 14.0 RC1 |
Jeremy Davis has announced the availability of a release candidate for TurnKey Linux 14.0. The new TurnKey release candidate is based on Debian "Jessie" and features TurnKey's Core and TKLDev editions. These editions are available as 64-bit builds only as the TurnKey project now considers 32-bit x86 to be a legacy architecture. "As many seasoned TurnKey users would know, historically a major version bump means a rebase on a new OS version. And as I mentioned above, v14.0 is no exception. TurnKey Linux v14.0 is built on top of Debian Jessie (aka Debian 8). As there are significant changes that come with Jessie we could really do with some community help on this one. Alon has built these first RCs but I am sure that there will be plenty of issues we'll need to resolve. Just finding the bugs and reporting them on our Issue Tracker (or even just posting here) would be a massive help!" More information on the release candidate is available in the project's release announcement. Distribution Release: TurnKey Linux 13.0 |
Liraz Siri has announced the release of TurnKey Linux 13.0, a major new version of the project's Debian-based set of highly specialised virtual appliances for severs: "TurnKey Linux 13, code-named 'satisfaction guaranteed or your money back' celebrates five years of TurnKey Linux and is based on the latest version of Debian GNU/Linux (7.2). The release includes 1,400 ready-to-use images - 330 GB worth of 100% open source, guru integrated, Linux system goodness in seven build types that are optimized and pre-tested for nearly any deployment scenario: bare metal, virtual machines and hypervisors of all kinds, 'headless' private and public cloud deployments, etc. New apps in this release include OpenVPN, Observium and Tendenci. We hope this new release reinforces the explosion in active 24x7 production deployments (37,521 servers worldwide) we've seen since the previous 12.1 release." Development Release: TurnKey Linux 13.0 RC |
Alon Swartz has announced the availability of the release candidate for TurnKey Linux 13.0, a major update of the project's vast library of Debian-based virtual appliances that integrate the best open-source software into ready-to-use specialist solutions: "Drumroll please... I'm thrilled to make not one, but two announcements. TurnKey Core 13.0RC - this is a release candidate of TurnKey Core 13 based on Debian GNU/Linux 7.0 ('Wheezy')- the upcoming version of Debian, which hasn't officially been released but shouldn't be too far off. 64-bit support - TurnKey Core 13 RC is available in both 32-bit and 64-bit variants. This means we can now guarantee that TurnKey 13 will come with 64-bit support. The wait is nearly over. To be honest, the lack of 64-bit support has been a nagging source of embarrassment for TurnKey for quite a while now. A significant 66% of users said this was 'very important' to them. We agree." Distribution Release: TurnKey Linux 12.0 |
Liraz Siri has announced the release of TurnKey Linux 12.0, a library of Debian-based virtual appliances, integrating the best open-source software into ready-to-use solutions: "The 12.0 release is finally out after nearly 6 months of development and just in time to celebrate TurnKey's 4th anniversary. I'm proud to announce we've more than doubled the size of the TurnKey Linux library, from 45 appliances to over 100! So many innovations and competing ideas, all this free energy. We feel so privileged to have a front row seat and not just watch it all play out but also be able to play our own small role in showcasing so much high-quality open-source work while making it just a bit more accessible to users. Unlike previous releases this latest release is based on Debian, not Ubuntu. We realize this may upset hardcore Ubuntu fans but if you read on, I'll try to explain below why 'defecting' to Debian was the right thing for TurnKey." Distribution Release: TurnKey Linux 11.3 |
Liraz Siri has announced the release of Turnkey Linux 11.3, an Ubuntu-based set of highly specialised virtual appliances which integrate open-source software into ready-to-use solutions: "We've just pushed out TurnKey Linux 11.3, the final maintenance release based on Ubuntu 10.04. The next release will be based on Ubuntu 12.04. We're already shifting into high gear for that. There will be surprises. Hopefully good ones! The new images we just pushed out from our CloudTask automation swarm include fixes for various bruises and scrapes, as well as the very latest security updates. If you've already installed a previous version of TurnKey 11, you don't need to download anything because by default TurnKey is configured to automatically install all of the security updates over the network. The maintenance release will mainly be of interest to new users and existing users doing new deployments." Read the release announcement and see the virtual appliances page for further details. Distribution Release: TurnKey Linux 11.1 |
Liraz Siri has announced the release of TurnKey Linux 11.1, an Ubuntu-based set of highly specialised virtual appliances available as installation CD images or virtual images: "Part 1 of the TurnKey Linux 11 release is now officially out, including 45 new images based on Ubuntu 10.04.1. Part 1 mostly refreshes the existing roster of appliances in the library. In the upcoming part 2 we'll release the new appliances the community has been helping us develop over the last year. This will roughly double the size of the library. A handful of new appliances have also been squeezed in: Joomla 1.6, Magento, StatusNet, PrestaShop and vTiger CRM. This was mostly a side effect of the original (misguided) plan to do one big massive release with over 80 appliances." The detailed release announcement includes a list of changes since the release candidate and a few hints about future plans. To download one of the 40+ available appliances please see the project's SoureForge page. Here is a quick link to the "core" image from which all appliances are built: turnkey-core-11.1-lucid-x86.iso (157MB).
