2014-02-08 NEWBSD Release: FreeNAS 9.2.1
Jordan Hubbard has announced the release of FreeNAS 9.2.1, an updated version of the project's free network-attached storage (NAS) system based on FreeBSD and the ZFS file system: "After one beta, two release candidates, and many nightly builds (which many of you tested, to our everlasting gratitude) we are, as always, proud to announce the public availability of FreeNAS 9.2.1-RELEASE. FreeNAS 9.2.0 was a great release, and we're pleased to say that FreeNAS 9.2.1 is even better. Since 9.2.0 was released, we have fixed over 189 bugs, added new features, polished the UI, and improved the performance of FreeNAS even further. The documentation has also been updated for 9.2.1, though the source code is still a useful reference for features like the web API, which comes with several examples in the source tree. For the first time, we are also publishing an errata list for 9.2.1 so people will know about known issues that were not deemed severe enough to be 'show stoppers' for this release." Read the rest of the release announcement which includes detailed release notes. Download (SHA256): FreeNAS-9.2.1-RELEASE-x64.iso (215MB).

2025-10-29 Distribution Release: TrueNAS 25.10.0
TrueNAS 25.10.0, a specialist, Debian-based Linux distribution designed for NAS (network-attached storage) computers, has been released. This major new version introduces the NVMe over Fabric (NVMe-oF) protocol and OpenZFS 2.3.4 performance improvements: "Building on the success of TrueNAS 25.04 'Fangtooth', we’re proud to release TrueNAS 25.10 'Goldeye' to deliver a powerful and user-friendly experience, cutting-edge features for enhanced performance, and simplified operations. TrueNAS 25.10 breaks free from the limitations of traditional storage protocols with NVMe over Fabric (NVMe-oF) support. NVMe-oF enables direct, high-speed access to data stored on remote arrays, effectively letting you treat storage on your TrueNAS 25.10 system as if it was a locally attached NVMe device. By removing the protocol overhead inherent in older block protocols like iSCSI and Fibre Channel, you can unlock unprecedented levels of I/O performance and significantly reduce latency. TrueNAS 25.10 integrates the latest fixes available in the OpenZFS filesystem, with a suite of substantial enhancements crucial for optimizing data management and system performance." 2024-07-09 Distribution Release: TrueNAS 24.04.1.1 "SCALE"
TrueNAS is a project which develops network attached storage operating systems. SCALE is the Debian-based branch of the project. TrueNAS SCALE recently received an update which significantly improves input/output performance. "After a successful release and the fastest adoption of software in TrueNAS history, TrueNAS SCALE 24.04 'Dragonfish' has its first update today. The performance being achieved is significantly beyond TrueNAS 13.0 and Cobia. Dragonfish benefits from OpenZFS, Linux, SAMBA improvements, and some TrueNAS optimizations. The performance changes may not be obvious for smaller systems, but larger systems need software performance that scales with core and drive count. Dragonfish has significant improvements in IOPS (virtualization and databases), bandwidth (video and backup), and File Metadata (directory listings). 50% more IOPS: IOPS (Input/Outputs Per Second) is a classic storage metric for transactional workloads like virtual desktops and databases. On the same platform and pool configuration (a TrueNAS M50 with 20 SSDs in 4x 5wZ1) we see 50% higher IOPS with Dragonfish when compared to TrueNAS 13.0." Further details can be found in the project's release announcement and in the release notes. Download: TrueNAS-SCALE-24.04.1.1.iso (1,553MB, SHA256, signature).

N-iX Desktop Linux

N-iX Destkop Linux was a Linux Distribution based on Fedora Core. You can download the ISO images and just have a N-iX customised version of Fedora with some additional stuff, like Java, Flash, Adobe Acrobat Reader, K3B and other software working right from the box. You don't need to search and install those programs. But if you also want to run N-iX tools, like XPlat Messenger Client, Cross Network Client you should buy a licence for N-iX Desktop Linux.
