Yesterday SUSE announced the availability of the fourth service pack for SUSE Linux Enterprise 11 "Desktop" and "Server" editions, a set of commercial enterprise-class Linux distributions: "SUSE has made it easier for customers to take advantage of the processing power and innovations of the latest hardware with the release of SUSE Linux Enterprise 11 Service Pack 4. In addition, scalability improvements in SP4 will allow more customers to run large-scale workloads such as in-memory databases on SUSE Linux Enterprise 11. SP4 also upgrades key components in the high availability clustering stack - including pacemaker, booth and ReaR - to the same versions in SUSE Linux Enterprise High Availability Extension 12. These upgrades allow customers to fully exploit the stack to enhance service availability for mission-critical workloads. SUSE Linux Enterprise Real Time Extension, a system specifically engineered to reduce latency and increase the predictability and reliability of time-sensitive, mission-critical applications, is also upgraded." SUSE has announced the release of SUSE Linux Enterprise (SLE) 15 SP5, the fifth service pack of the company's enterprise-class Linux distribution designed mainly for developers and administrators to deploy business-critical workloads. The company's new release streamlines the install media and provides wider support for IPv4 addresses. "The Unified Installer and Packages DVDs known from SUSE Linux Enterprise Desktop/SUSE Linux Enterprise Workstation Extension 15 SP1 are deprecated and have been replaced by the following media: Online Installation Media - all SUSE Linux Enterprise 15 products can be installed with this stand alone media, after entering a registration key. The necessary packages are fetched from online repositories only. For information about available modules, see Section 3.1, 'Modules in the SLE 15 SP5 (prerelease) Product Line'. Full Installation Media - all SUSE Linux Enterprise Desktop/SUSE Linux Enterprise Workstation Extension 15 products can be installed without network connection with this media, for offline installation scenarios. SUSE has announced the release of SUSE Linux Enterprise (SLE) 15 SP4, the fourth service pack of the company's enterprise-class Linux distribution designed mainly for developers and administrators to deploy business-critical workloads. The new service package includes extended search for packages across repositories (even those not enabled) and 389 Directory Server replaces OpenLDAP. "The OpenLDAP server (package openldap2, part of the Legacy SLE module) has been removed from SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 15 SP4. The OpenLDAP client libraries are widely used for LDAP integrations and are compatible with 389 Directory Server. Hence, the OpenLDAP client libraries and command-line tools will continue to be supported on SLES 15 to provide an easier transition for customers that currently use the OpenLDAP Server. To replace OpenLDAP server, SLES includes 389 Directory Server. 389 Directory Server (package 389-ds) is a fully-featured LDAPv3-compliant server suited for modern environments and for very large LDAP deployments. 389 Directory Server also comes with command-line tools of its own." "SUSE Linux Enterprise 12 Service Pack 5 is now generally available. This release consolidates all the fixes and updates that were introduced since SUSE Linux Enterprise 12 Service Pack 4. As you know, SUSE Linux Enterprise service packs are released on a yearly cadence. Service Pack 5 is the next service pack since the release of Service Pack 4 in Dec 2018. SUSE has announced the availability of the first release candidate for SUSE Linux Enterprise 15 SP1. The new snapshot includes many bug fixes and several package updates. "SUSE Linux Enterprise 15 Service Pack 1 is entering the Release Candidate Phase since we are closer and closer to the official release date (so called First Customer Shipment) scheduled for mid-June 2019. SUSE Engineering Team has a special mindset regarding the Release Candidate phase, because we are targeting to have FCS quality with those milestones. We have the constraints of considering RC milestones like FCS releases, in term of bug fixing and providing security fixes, which means that we are focusing on stability but there is also less room for intrusive changes. Of course, exceptions happen and developing, stabilizing, building and testing an entire operating system and products around it are complex tasks. Nevertheless with the help of our talented engineers, powerful tool like Open Build Service and openQA, and the ability for external parties to participate in the development phase, we will be able to deliver the best SUSE Linux Enterprise version yet."
