It can run as a live CD/DVD on practically any PC, and can be installed to a hard drive in just a few minutes. Klikit-Linux was based on Kubuntu, taking advantage of many of its best features, and then adds its own touch, depending on the desires of the community.

The developers of Neptune, a desktop oriented distribution based on Debian, have announced the launch of Neptune 4.4. The new release updates several key components, including parts of the graphics stack, offering better video card support and better performance. Improvements have also been introduced to the partition manager, enabling users to manipulate btrfs volumes. "This version features a new LTS kernel 3.18.16 which delivers better and more modern hardware support. We also did the biggest update in the graphics stack since Neptune 4.0 by upgrading to X.Org Server 1.17 and Mesa 10.5.8. This brings in support for modern graphic cards and better 3D performance. Old chips like voodoo or sis however aren't supported any more. We updated the HPlip driver to support newer HP printers. We improved the user interface by introducing a new modern looking font as well as bigger scrollbars." Additional information and screen shots are available in the project's release announcement. Distribution Release: Neptune 8.0 |
Neptune is a GNU/Linux distribution for desktops. It is based on Debian's Stable branch. The project has released Neptune version 8.0 which is based on Debian 12 and which features version 6.1 of the Linux kernel. The project's release announcement reads: "We are proud to announce the release of Neptune 8.0 (Juna). This is the first major release of version 8.0 based on Debian 12 (Bookworm). This version comes with the latest major underlying changes from Debian 12 (Bookworm). The Linux kernel has been updated to Version 6.1 to provide support for new hardware and better compatibility with current hardware. Additionally, KDE Plasma has been upgraded to version 5.27 along with all KDE applications present in version 22.12.3. In Neptune 8.0, we rely entirely on the software management of Plasma Discover, which is now mature enough for us to provide it with Flatpak support and the Flathub repository. As a result, the package management tool Muon has been removed. Other software updates include Chromium 115 as well as Thunderbird 102 and VLC 3.0.18." Development Release: Neptune 7.9 Beta 1 |
Neptune is a GNU/Linux distribution for desktops, based on Debian. The project has published a new testing snapshot, Neptune 7.9 beta 1. The release announcement reads: "As by our tradition, the Neptune 7.9 beta 1 ISO image is now available on time for the Carnaval. This one comes based on Debian 'Testing' with the latest Plasma 5.27 (beta) as well as Linux kernel 6.1.8. For the first time we ship Plasma Wayland as session as well as Flatpak with activated Flathub repository for a vast amount of apps available for Linux. This version is a bit bigger, 3GB in size, due to some apps relying on Qt 5 libraries and the default being Qt 6. We are looking into it if we can reduce the size further but we did already some tweaking to reduce the size. Known bugs: a Btrfs installation ends up with a read-only mount after installation (this still needs fixing in Calamares). Linux kernel 6.1.8 has issues with AMD GPUs and external displays staying black after stand-by and wake-up; this is fixed in kernel 6.1.9 and higher - Debian 'Sid' has 6.1.11 already so it should be fixed soon." Distribution Release: Neptune 7.5 |
Leszek Lesner has announced the release of Neptune 7.5, an updated build of the project's desktop Linux distribution based on Debian's latest stable version and with KDE Plasma as the preferred desktop environment: "We are proud to announce the release of Neptune 7.5 'Ada', the first service release of the Neptune 7 series. This version comes with the updates provided by Debian 11.4 'Bullseye' that offer the latest and greatest in terms of security. We updated the Linux kernel to version 5.18 to provide better support for modern hardware and fixed some bugs with existing hardware support. We put effort in optimizing the performance of Neptune by providing tweaks to kernel that improve the write speed on USB thumb drives. Neptune 7.5 also provides a new solution for a complete system backup called Timeshift. It allows you to save a whole snapshot of your system and restore it even if your system is totally broken. You can even restore from a live system as long as you have the backup saved somewhere accessible. Some slight tweaks make it easier to work on the terminal." Distribution Release: Neptune 5.0 |
Neptune is a Linux distribution based on Debian's Stable branch. The project's latest release, Neptune 5.0 "Refresh", is based on Debian 9 Stretch and includes KDE's Plasma 5.12 LTS desktop. Version 4.14 of the Linux kernel has been backported to provide additional hardware support: "This version marks a new iteration within the Neptune universe. It switches its base to the current Debian Stable "Stretch" version and also changes slightly the way we will provide updates for Neptune. We will no longer strive to bring in more recent versions of Plasma, kernel or other software on our own. With Snaps, Flatpaks and AppImages being more and more popular and mature these days we strongly believe these are the ways to go if you want to try out bleeding edge software. We on the other hand strive to provide the most stable and best desktop user experience out there. This is why we decided you to provide the latest LTS release of Plasma version 5.12 together with KDE Applications 17.12 as well as KDE Frameworks 5.43."
