2016-03-02 NEWDistribution Release: Untangle NG Firewall 12.0
Untangle has announced the release of Untangle NG Firewall 12.0, a major new update of the specialist distribution designed for firewalls and gateways. This is the project's first version based on Debian 8.0: "12.0 is a major release. Major user interface updates, a new dashboard and many new features. The admin interface received a major overhaul. The organization didn't change much so there isn't a big learning curve to re-learn everything. However, visually it is very different. The new admin interface is simpler, cleaner, faster and more responsive. The two tabs (apps, config) on the left are gone. Now there are 4 global tabs. The dashboard is a new customizable view into your system and important topical information. By default the dashboard shows an assortment of 'widgets' which show you different information about your system. You can also add more widgets to show various information. Apps shows the new apps view. By default and on upgrade this is the traditional rack view." Here is the standard press release while useful technical details are more readily available in the release notes. Download (MD5) the installation CD image from here: untangle_1200_x64.iso (582MB, pkglist).

Untangle, Inc. has announced the release of Untangle NG Firewall 16.0.1, a major new update of the company's Debian-based firewall and network gateway designed for small to medium-sized enterprises. Besides an upgrade of the base system to Debian 10, the main new feature of the release is the addition of WireGuard VPN: "Untangle, Inc., today announced the latest release of its award-winning flagship product, NG Firewall. NG Firewall 16.0 includes significant updates including the addition of WireGuard VPN which allows for VPN options to fit any type of networking deployment and administrative preferences, better addressing any organization's critical VPN connectivity needs. In today's world of increased remote work, VPN technology is being heavily relied upon to help users and businesses connect safely to a network. 2020-02-19 Distribution Release: Untangle NG Firewall 15.0
Fabio Angelosanto has announced the release of Untangle NG Firewall 15.0, a new version of the project's Debian-based firewall and network gateway designed for small to medium-sized enterprises. Some of the new features of this release are a "Threat Prevention App" and "Kidzsearch": "New Threat Prevention App analyzes web pages, web page associations, apps and files. It acts as a gatekeeper to determine what is or is not allowed, based on the assessed Threat Risk level. The technology even evaluates encrypted Internet traffic that today's threat actors can use to hide their malicious activities in, and that other types of security tools will not be able to see. Kidzsearch filtering for common search engines such as Google and Bing. This child-specific filter ensures that only age appropriate search results are returned to content-sensitive environments, such as schools and libraries. Flexibility for administrators to customize their NG Firewall email alerts. Administrators can format their alerts so that they can easily filter or flag them into the preferred email client application." Read the rest of the press release for further information. 2018-06-12 Distribution Release: Untangle NG Firewall 14.0
Untangle NG Firewall is a Debian-based network gateway with pluggable modules for network applications like spam blocking, web filtering, anti-virus, anti-spyware, intrusion prevention, VPN, SSL VPN, firewall and more. The project's latest release, version 14.0, offers more control over VPN connections and directing traffic based on the port and protocol being used. "Key updates provide more control, more visibility and lower costs for SD-WAN. Tunnel VPN connections can bind to specific WANs, allowing configuration of multiple tunnels for multi-WAN sites and ensuring each tunnel is using the desired physical WAN connection. Administrators can direct traffic to the most desirable WAN connection based on criteria like ports and protocols. Tunnels can be set up without NAT so that the cloud firewall has full visibility into the network. This gives the ability to centralize policies across the whole network from the cloud firewall." 2017-05-16 Distribution Release: Untangle NG Firewall 13.0.0
Untangle NG Firewall is a Debian-based network gateway with pluggable modules for network applications like spam blocking, web filtering and anti-virus. The company behind this distribution, Untangle Inc., has announced the release of Untangle 13.0.0. The new version introduces MAC-based device tracking, user tracking (via multiple methods) and the ability to override Untangle's OpenVPN settings. This release also introduces two new features: Tags and Triggers. "Tagging is a new feature that allows administrators to tag a host, device or user to quickly create policies based on entities that have a specific tag associated with them. Tags can be applied manually by an administrator or automatically based on conditions. Triggers allow administrators to tag hosts, devices, and users when specific events occur. The admin can then create policies and rules to manage behaviour. Similar to alert rules, trigger rules evaluate all events and can be configured to tag or untag entities based on the rules applied. Once tags and triggers are configured, they proactively manage hosts, devices and users without intervention by the network administrator." Further information can be found in the company's release announcement and in the changelog. Download (MD5): untangle_1300_x64.iso (550MB, pkglist).

NG Firewall's Integrated Rules Engine can utilize geolocation data to allow network administrators to create and apply rules based on client or server latitude and longitude or country. This enables network administrators to quickly triangulate where a threat is originating and create an appropriate policy response. Geolocation data is also available in NG Firewall's reports and widgets." For additional information, please see the distribution's release announcement.
