Here is the long list of issues we closed in this cycle: add anacron-like feature to task scheduling; add support for policy driven powering down of HDDs from the UI; add feature to browse and download various log files from the UI; significantly improve UI templates; add different support flows for stable and testing channel users; improve Active Directory info pop-up...." About Rockstor
Rockstor is a specialist openSUSE-based Linux distribution designed for Network Attached Storage (NAS) and private cloud storage solutions. It is based on popular open-source technologies, such as the Btrfs file system and Docker for automating the deployment of applications inside software containers. In addition to standard NAS features like file sharing via NFS, Samba, SFTP and AFP, advanced features such as online volume management, CoW Snapshots, asynchronous replication, compression, and bitrot protection are also supported. Rockstor provides additional applications, including ownCloud, Syncthing, OpenVPN and Plex. These applications (called "Rock-ons") are powered by a Docker-based application hosting framework. The Rockstor user interface, written in JavaScript, makes it simple to manage the server from within a web browser.

Suman Chakravartula has announced the release of Rockstor 3.9.1, an updated build of the project's CentOS-based Linux distribution designed specifically for Network-Attached Storage (NAS) or private cloud storage scenarios: "Rockstor 3.9.1 is now available. Six contributors have come together to close 30+ issues, including major feature updates and bug fixes to make this update happen. Disk encryption with LUKS is the biggest feature we've added and something the community has been wanting for a while. We've also added support for scheduling power management and jumbo frames, just to name a few. This update also comes with a 4.10 kernel from 'elrepo' and a btrfs-progs update from the Btrfs community. For new installs, we created a brand new 3.9.1 ISO image. Please purchase a subscription for Stable updates subscription after install and enjoy these benefits. Stable update subscribers can update from the UI as usual. Here's the list of issues we closed in this issue: support full disk LUKS; schedule power down/up of the system; graceful shutdown with cron job; UI Shares view incorrect sort on size...." Distribution Release: Rockstor 3.9.0 |
Rockstor is a CentOS-based Linux distribution designed for Network Attached Storage (NAS) and private cloud storage solutions. The Rockstor team have announced the release of a new version of their distribution, Rockstor 3.9.0. The new release mostly focuses on bug fixes and improving existing features. "We've just wrapped up a fun release cycle, and it's my pleasure to announce Rockstor 3.9.0. Our community has been really active and we've prioritized nicely to improve on a few different areas. Five contributors have come together for this release and besides working on new features and bug fixes, we made significant improvements to code quality. phillxnet has made a big enhancement to the disk management subsystem. I've made large code quality improvement to backend Python stack. MFlyer collaborated with me on that and took upon himself to do the same for all of Javascript stack. He made several ninja style contributions and helped fix many bugs. I'd say this is a nice release with some new stuff and a bunch of useful maintenance updates." A list of changes in Rockstor 3.9.0 can be found in the project's release announcement. Download (MD5): Rockstor-3.9.0.iso (790MB, torrent, pkglist). |

A total of 43 issues were closed, making this a substantial update. Several enhancements were made to the user interface, prominently to the dashboard. I'd like to also highlight the big (design and implementation) refactoring of our backend disk management. Last but not least, numerous improvements and bug fixes were committed throughout the stack. List of issues we closed in this cycle: overhaul pagination, sort and search on UI using DataTables; revise internal use and format of device names; support customizing web-ui port; improvements to password recovery system...." Distribution Release: Rockstor 3.8-11 |
Suman Chakravartula has announced the release of Rockstor 3.8-11, a new stable version of the CentOS-based specialist Linux distribution designed for Network Attached Storage (NAS): "I am happy to announce the release of Rockstor 3.8-11. There are two significant changes I'd like to highlight. We made several improvements to the Rock-Ons system, including making it easy for users and add their own custom Rock-Ons and 3rd party contributors to submit theirs for wider community. We added new Rock-Ons including Discoure and Jenkins. We also made the system significantly more robust and simpler. Expect more changes in the next cycle, but a lot of heavy lifting was done in this one. The second significant change is to the inner workings of the Web-UI. We've revamped templating and overhauled existing templates using Handlebars. As a result, the UI is leaner, and faster and the code is a lot more readable and simpler. There are many other improvements and bug fixes to S.M.A.R.T, NUT and SSL certificate management, to name a few." Continue to the release announcement for a further details and a list of bug fixes. Distribution Release: Rockstor 3.8-10 |
Suman Chakravartula has announced the release of Rockstor 3.8-10, the latest stable build of the project's CentOS-based specialist Linux distribution for Network Attached Storage (NAS) tasks: "Rockstor 3.8-10 is now available. This is our second release in the Stable updates channel. We closed 13 issues in this release, compared to 20 in 3.8-9. And this release took a bit longer. If you are wondering why, it’s because of the big feature improvement in this release: asynchronous replication. This feature efficiently replicates Shares on one Rockstor appliance to another by using Btrfs send/receive functionality. While this feature was added a while ago, it was a bit over-engineered and buggy, so it had to be improved. I started refactoring the existing pub-sub design and ended up completely redesigning it. The result is a much simpler and more robust implementation. I plan to write more about it here and the community wiki soon." New users can just install from the 3.8-9 ISO. We closed 20 issues in this release.
