The deepin project, which develops a Debian-based Linux distribution with a custom desktop environment and several applications developed in-house, has announced the release of deepin 15.4. Despite a minor increment in the version number (from 15.3 to 15.4), this is a major release with many improvements and package upgrades: "deepin 15.4 has brand new design for Control Center and desktop. It adopted new blur and transparent style, new interactions for hot corner and window manager, along with selective wallpapers, full-screen installation interface, latest stable kernel version and original Deepin applications. It has added traditional Chinese (Hong Kong) and Amharic language support. The Control Center has brand-new design and interactions; the homepage shows quick-access icons for common settings to make the operation easier and faster. The newly designed installer has full-screen interface, fuzzy background, smart detection, friendly reminder and 'scan QR code for feedback'; you can experience the incredible pleasure of deepin just after drinking a cup of coffee." | About deepin
| deepin (formerly, Deepin, Linux Deepin, Hiweed GNU/Linux) is a Debian-based distribution (it was Ubuntu-based until version 15 released in late 2015) that aims to provide an elegant, user-friendly and reliable operating system. It does not only include the best the open source world has to offer, but it has also created its own desktop environment called DDE or Deepin Desktop Environment which is based on the Qt 5 toolkit. Deepin focuses much of its attention on intuitive design. Its home-grown applications, like Deepin Software Centre, DMusic and DPlayer are tailored to the average user. Being easy to install and use, deepin can be a good Windows alternative for office and home use.

Distribution Release: deepin 25 |
The deepin distribution team has announced version 25 of its operating system. The deepin distribution includes the new Deepin Desktop Environment 7.0, an immutable filesystem, and an AI assistant which responds to voice commands. "We deeply understand the importance of system stability for users. To this end, deepin 25 proudly introduces 'solid' (deepin immutable system), redefining the benchmark for stability in Linux operating systems. Read-only protection, preventing core tampering - by forcibly mounting core directories like /usr/bin as read-only, the system fundamentally blocks accidental user actions or malware from modifying the system core, ensuring long-term stable operation. For developers needing deep customization, we also provide a convenient command to toggle protection on/off instantly. Second-level snapshots, upgrade without worry - before every system update, the system automatically creates a backup snapshot. Even if something unexpected happens during the update, the system can automatically roll back to the last known good state upon reboot, eliminating 'update-bricking' anxiety." Details on these features and more can be found in the release announcement. Download: deepin-desktop-community-25-amd64.iso (6,028MB, SHA256, torrent, pkglist). |

Development Release: deepin 25 Alpha |
Following a "Preview" release in January, the deepin project has announced the availability of the first alpha build of its upcoming major release, version 25. This version introduces Linyaps, deepin's own package management tool, and brings numerous changes to the deepin desktop environment: "deepin 25 alpha has enhanced system-level product functionality and personalized management capabilities to provide users with a complete desktop environment. This version continues design improvements and functional optimizations for the deepin Solid Operating System, UOS AI and Control Center modules (wallpaper, screensaver, power management, mouse, touchpad), now meeting daily usage and management needs while integrating features requested by user feedback. Linyaps is a software package management tool independently developed by deepin, designed to address long-standing issues in Linux software ecosystems such as dependency conflicts, fragmented distribution and high security risks. Based on mechanisms like User Namespace and CGroup, Linyaps provides a unified application runtime environment decoupled from the operating system." Devuan GNU+Linux
Devuan GNU+Linux is a Linux distribution forked from Debian in 2015. The project's primary goal is to provide a variant of Debian without the complexities and dependencies of systemd, an init system and services manager originally developed by Red Hat and later adopted by most other Linux distributions. Devuan's initial beta release was made available in April 2016, together with an upgrade path from Debian 7.0 "Wheezy" and a possibility to switch to Devuan from Debian 8.0 "Jessie". The distribution adopted Xfce as its default desktop.
