BSD Release: GhostBSD 24.07.1 |
GhostBSD is a desktop-oriented, FreeBSD-based operating system featuring the MATE desktop (a community build offers an Xfce alternative). The project's latest release is version 24.07.1 which now draws on FreeBSD's base system packages - low-level components built the same way as third-party packages. "This release, though a bit delayed, brings a significant change. We have transitioned from building our OS packages from our OS ports to building them from FreeBSD PKGBSD. This change, while involving extensive testing, promises improved performance and stability. If you have not updated to 24.04.2, a backup and reinstallation with 24.07.1 is recommended. Please note that the change to PKGBSD and the OS update to 24.07.1 could cause issues, as the update manager was only set to upgrade GhostBSD to PKGBSD from a minor version. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause." A full list of changes is presented in the project's release announcement. BSD Release: GhostBSD 23.10.1 |
GhostBSD is a FreeBSD-based operating system with a focus on desktop computing. The project's latest release introduces a kernel update and a number of networking improvements, along with minor changes. "I am pleased to announce the release of GhostBSD 23.10.1. This version might look odd from previous releases, but it is correct. After more thought into it, the base OS is not updated as much as the software packages. So, I decided to change the release version back to a static one instead of changing it on each software package update. Software packages will be updated as often as possible, like before, and if there are significant issues, changes or security issues before 24.01.1, a 23.10.2 release will be created. See the roadmap for future releases. In this release, the FreeBSD base system and kernel have been updated to 1302508, and it contains software updates, some improvements to Update Station, and new features to NetworkMgr. Also, os-generic-userland-devtools has been removed from the default installation to downsize the live system image." The release announcement offers additional details. BSD Release: GhostBSD 22.06.15 |
The GhostBSD project develops a desktop operating system based on FreeBSD. The project's latest snapshot is GhostBSD 22.06.15 which includes better handling of NVIDIA drivers and smoothly upgrade processes. "Some of the improvements are automation on the livecd to install the proper Nvidia driver, and when a package fails to upgrade, Update Station will reinstall it and resume the update. I have added the BWN_GPL_PHY option in our default GENERIC kernel to compile drivers that include GPLv2 code. Now, most Broadcom devices are detected, including my iMac. In most cases bwn_v4_ucode_load="YES" or bwn_v4_lp_ucode_load="YES" need to be added in /boot/loader.conf. In addition, GhostBSD was upgraded to 13.1-STABLE from 22/05/31. Features added: Do not show updates available when packages are syncing. Add a file called syncing when new packages are syncing and remove it when completed. Add code to update-station read if syncing is in the repository and do not prompt users for upgrades. Add code to software-station to not allow software installation with software-station during a packages sync." Additional details can be found in the project's release announcement. BSD Release: GhostBSD 21.11.24 |
GhostBSD is a desktop-oriented, rolling release operating system based on FreeBSD. The project's latest snapshot adds a new tool for tracking the version of the rolling-release operating system. "This new ISO image contains kernel, operating system and software updates. In addition, I added a new command-line software called ghostbsd-version that gives you the GhostBSD version, FreeBSD version, kernel version, and operating system version. At the date of this release, if you run ghostbsd-version or ghostbsd-version -v, it should output 21.11.24. This version number will be incremented with the date of new package built on packages when update is performed. The ISO image version is now following the last package build version instead of an ISO image build date in the hope of removing confusion about the ISO image version. Changelog: added version file in the package repository; added /etc/version with ghostbsd-build from the version file in the package repository; added feature in update manager to update /etc/version; created ghostbsd-version; moved version under set_ghostbsd_version and set the GhostBSD ISO image version from the repository...." Additional information on the new GhostBSD snapshot can be found in the release announcement. Download (SHA256): GhostBSD-21.11.24.iso (2,671MB, torrent, pkglist). |
