SME Server
SME Server (known as e-smith at the time) was founded in January 1999 by Joseph and Kim Morrison. The company introduced the first version of its flagship software product, the e-smith server and gateway, in April 1999. By the end of the year, many thousands of e-smith servers were running in countries from Fiji to Finland. Word was spreading quickly among developers and systems integrators who needed a solid, easy-to-use server for their small-business customers. In July 2001, e-smith was acquired by Mitel Networks, but was later released as an open-source product under the GPL licence. In May 2013 a new not-for-profit organisation was set up to manage SME server. Due to copyright issues it was named Koozali SME Server Inc. The word "Koozali" approximates to Swahili for "rebirth". Future versions will use this name. The distribution, which is based on CentOS, is currently entirely funded by donations.

The FatDog64 Linux team have announced a new stable release of their distribution. FatDog64 is a lightweight distribution which has a similar style to Puppy Linux, but focuses on supporting 64-bit computers. "The Fatdog team (Kirk, James, SFR and step) is happy to announce the next version of Fatdog64, 720 Final. Fatdog64 720 Final is the next iteration of Fatdog64. It is still built on the same base as Fatdog64 710 so it has a high-degree of compatibility with 710 packages; however it has been expanded, improved, and modified to meet today's challenge. Much of the improvements in this release are from SFR and step. We like to thank those who have provided feedback, suggestions, advice, bug reports, bug fixes in the Beta cycle and in the previous releases. You know who you are." A list of key package updates and major changes since the Fatdog64 710 release can be found in the project's release announcement. More specific package information can be found in the release notes. Distribution Release: Fatdog64 900 |
Fatdog64 Linux is a small, desktop, 64-bit Linux distribution which has its origins in the Puppy Linux family. The project has published version 900 which is based on Linux From Scratch 11.3. The release notes share highlights from Fatdog64 900: "The Fatdog64 team is pleased to announce the first release of Fatdog64 GNU/Linux 900 series. Release 900 is based on LFS (Linux From Scratch) 11.3, replacing the LFS 8.2 used in the 800 series, with packages updated to BLFS (Beyond LFS) of the same version (11.3) or newer. At the time of release there are more than 2400 packages and more will be added as time permits. Changes from Fatodg64 814: new base, updates are too numerous to list; rudimentary HiDPI support; Basesfs/savefile on 9p filesystem (mainly on QEMU); xscreenshot now supports copying to clipboard - press Ctrl-Print to activate; dconf gsettings backend to enable application settings persistence in Evince; touchegg - convert multi-touch gesture to actions; numerous bug fixes and fine tunings. Known issues: suspend/resume does not always work with certain machines; certain Radeon-based machines may require the 'radeon' module to be pre-loaded using 'loadmodules' boot parameter, otherwise the kernel might stall during the boot process, causing unnecessary delays." Distribution Release: Fatdog64 Linux 800 |
Fatdog64 Linux is a lightweight distribution which originally began as a fork of Puppy Linux, but has since grown into its own, distinct distribution. The project's latest release, Fatdog64 Linux 800, is newly based on Linux From Scratch (LFS) and offers many package upgrades as well as improved driver support. "Fatdog64-800 GNU/Linux is the first release of Fatdog64 with a new base platform, replacing the LFS 7.5/CLFS 3.0 platform, which was used in release 710 series. Release 800 is now based on LFS (Linux From Scratch) 8.2, combined with CLFS (Cross LFS) 2017.17, with packages updated to same version of BLFS or later. At the time of the release there are more than 1,700 packages and many more will be added as time passes. As usual Fatdog64 does not upgrade from any older version but especially so for this release, being based a totally different platform. Save file/folders from older versions aren't compatible, start a fresh save file/folder instead. A few older packages may still work, but in general they aren't supported and you should upgrade to the new package version if available. The same applies for SFS archives. Of special note: this release uses OpenSSL from 1.1.x branch, which is known to be incompatible with OpenSSL 1.0.x branch that was used in earlier Fatdog64 versions. All older applications that depend on OpenSSL will definitely not work." The release notes offer further details. Download: Fatdog64-800.iso (432MB, MD5, pkglist). |

Development Release: Fatdog64 Linux 720 Beta |
The Fatdog64 Linux distribution is a descendant of Puppy Linux for 64-bit x86 computers. The Fatdog64 project has announced the release of a new development snapshot, Fatdog64 Linux 720 Beta. The new beta features many package updates, the "spot" user's home directory has been moved and some changes have been made to Samba shares. "Fatdog64 720 beta is the next iteration of Fatdog64. It is still built on the same base as Fatdog64 710 so it has high-degree of compatibility with 710 packages; however, it has been expanded, improved and modified to meet today's challenge. Much of the improvements in this release are from SFR and step. As usual, we neither support nor recommend carrying over your savefile and savefolder from older versions of Fatdog (Fatdog does not update from any previous versions); however, if you do, there are a few gotchas that you definitely need want to know in this version. Spot's home directory has been moved from /root/spot to /home/spot - this has repercussions, please read the details here."
