The "Veteran UNIX Admins" have announced the release of Devuan GNU+Linux 2.0.0, a new stable build from the project that forked Debian in late 2014 to build a systemd-free variant of the popular community distribution. Devuan's second release is based on Debian 9.0 and carries a code name of "ASCII": "We are happy to announce that Devuan GNU+Linux 2.0 ASCII stable is finally available. Devuan 2.0 ASCII runs on several architectures. Installer CD and DVD images, as well as desktop live and minimal live ISO images, are available for i386 and amd64. Ready-to-use images can be downloaded for a number of ARM platforms and SOCs, including Raspberry Pi, BeagleBone, OrangePi, BananaPi, OLinuXino, Cubieboard, Nokia and Motorola mobile phones several Chromebooks, as well as for VirtualBox, QEMU and Vagrant. The Devuan 2.0 ASCII installer ISOs offer a variety of desktop environments including Xfce, KDE, MATE, Cinnamon, LXQt, with others available post-install." | Devuan GNU+Linux is a Linux distribution forked from Debian in 2015. The project's primary goal is to provide a variant of Debian without the complexities and dependencies of systemd, an init system and services manager originally developed by Red Hat and later adopted by most other Linux distributions. Devuan's initial beta release was made available in April 2016, together with an upgrade path from Debian 7.0 "Wheezy" and a possibility to switch to Devuan from Debian 8.0 "Jessie". The distribution adopted Xfce as its default desktop.

The Devuan GNU+Linux team have announced the availability of a new point release of their distribution. The new point release, Devuan GNU+Linux 3.1.0, now supports three init options at install time: OpenRC, SysV init, and runit. The installer now also allows users to install an alternative bootloader (lilo) instead of GRUB. The release announcement states: "Devuan Beowulf 3.1.0 point release installer ISOs, desktop-live, and minimal-live ISOs are now available. Note that ARM and virtual images are not updated in this release. What’s new in this point release: The installer now offers a choice of three init systems. runit has been added, along with sysvinit and OpenRC. If you would like to select an alternate bootloader (lilo) or exclude non-free firmware, you must select one of the Expert install options." Mark Hindley has announced the release of Devuan GNU+Linux 3.0.0, code name "Boewulf". Devuan is a Linux distribution originally forked from Debian in order to provide alternative init software to systemd (SysV, OpenRC or runit). This version of Devuan is based on Debian 10: "Devuan developers are delighted to announce the release of Devuan 'Beowulf' 3.0.0 as the project's new stable release. The Devuan project, which rebuilds the Debian distribution after removing systemd and all related components from it, has announced the availability of the first beta snapshot of Devuan GNU+Linux 3.0.0, code name "Beowulf": "The Devuan 3 'Beowulf' beta release is now ready for review. What's new in 'Beowulf'? Changes in su - the behavior of su has changed, Use 'su -' to get root's path or use the full path to commands if you use only 'su'; PulseAudio - if you have no sound, make sure the following line in /etc/pulse/client.conf.d/00-disable-autospawn.conf is commented as #autospawn=no; note that Firefox ESR no longer requires PulseAudio, so you can easily remove PulseAudio and just use ALSA. Devuan 3 'Beowulf' is available for i386, amd64, armel, armhf, arm64 and ppc64el platforms. Devuan GNU+Linux is a Linux distribution which forked from Debian in order to provide alternative init software to systemd, and alternative dependencies to functions and libraries systemd offers. The project's latest release is Devuan 2.1 which make it easier to choose between SysV init and OpenRC at install time. The distribution no longer offers ARM or virtual machine images, and the option to exclude non-free firmware is now available in the Expert installer. "Devuan ASCII 2.1 point release installer ISOs, desktop-live, and minimal-live ISOs are now available. No ARM or virtual images are included in this release. What's new in this point release: Installation: The option to choose OpenRC in the installer ISOs is more prominent, and no longer requires an Expert install. You can't miss it.
