TFM Linux
TFM Linux was a Linux operating system that can be used for small enterprises, whose administrators are not so experienced in Linux. It all began a long time ago with a Red Hat distribution, whose packages were very low on security, so that less than 5 % of these were kept and the rest was replaced with alternate Red Hat packages which proved to be more stable. That's the way the TFM Linux idea was born. The simplest method at that time was the adaptation of Red Hat distribution to the needs previously specified. So in March 2001 TFM Linux 1.0 was launched. An easy to install operating system, easy to use as server edition or workstation and adapted for the user's needs. All the knowledge gathered during all this time, allowed the observation of the modified Red Hat distribution limits, and, as future plan, it was established that the next version of the distribution will be done starting from zero, for having complete control to what was happening in the distribution and the packages interactions.

A new version of Tails has been released. Tails is a Debian-based live distribution whose goal is to help its users to browse the Internet anonymously and to circumvent censorship. This version is a standard security and bug-fix update: "Tails 3.10.1 is out. This release fixes many security vulnerabilities. You should upgrade as soon as possible. Upgrades and changes: hide the PIM option when unlocking VeraCrypt volumes because PIM won't be supported until Tails 4.0; rename the buttons in the confirmation dialog of Tails Installer to Install (or Upgrade) and Cancel to be less confusing; update Linux to 4.8, Tor Browser to 8.0.3, Thunderbird to 60.2.1. Fixed problems: prevent Tor Browser from leaking the language of the session; prevent Additional Software from asking to persist packages which are already configured as additional software; prevent Tails Installer from crashing when issuing an error message with international characters (non-ASCII); fix the VeraCrypt support for multiple encryption (cascades of ciphers); harden the configuration of sudo to prevent privilege escalation." Further information and screen shots can be found in the project's release announcement. Download: tails-amd64-3.10.1.iso (1,169MB, signature, torrent, pkglist). |

Distribution Release: Tails 6.14.1 |
The Amnesic Incognito Live System (better known as Tails) distribution has a new release which changes how confinement is handled for the Tor web browser. "We improved the confinement technology that we use to protect your files from possible security vulnerabilities in Tor Browser. Until now, Tor Browser could only save downloads to and read files from a limited number of folders. With Tails 6.14.1, you can safely access any folder in your Home folder or Persistent Storage from Tor Browser. This new integration also solves other usability and accessibility issues: The Large Text accessibility feature works in Tor Browser. The Cursor Size accessibility feature works in Tor Browser. The minimize and maximize buttons are available again in the title bar. These improvements rely on 2 security technologies: the flexibility of the new XDG Desktop Portals of Flatpak allowed us to relax the AppArmor confinement, improving usability without compromising on security." Distribution Release: Tails 6.11 |
The Amnesic Incognito Live System (Tails) is a Debian-based live DVD/USB with the goal of providing complete Internet anonymity for the user. The project has published an update for its 6.x series which fixes a serious security vulnerability. "The vulnerabilities described below were identified during an external security audit by Radically Open Security and disclosed responsibly to our team. We are not aware of these attacks being used against Tails users until now. These vulnerabilities can only be exploited by a powerful attacker who has already exploited another vulnerability to take control of an application in Tails. If you want to be extra careful and used Tails a lot since January 9 without upgrading, we recommend that you do a manual upgrade instead of an automatic upgrade. Prevent an attacker from installing malicious software permanently. In Tails 6.10 or earlier, an attacker who has already taken control of an application in Tails could then exploit a vulnerability in Tails Upgrader to install a malicious upgrade and permanently take control of your Tails. Doing a manual upgrade would erase such malicious software." The project also introduced new features, such as detecting when a USB thumb drive might be corrupted or have damaged partitions. Additional details can be found in the distribution's release announcement. Distribution Release: Tails 6.8 |
The Amnesic Incognito Live System (Tails) is a Debian-based live DVD/USB with the goal of providing complete Internet anonymity for the user. The project's latest release, Tails 6.8, improves handling of persistent storage, updates Tor Browser, and provides a better explanation when MAC randomization fails. "When the file system of the Persistent Storage has errors, Tails now offers you to repair the file system when unlocking from the Welcome Screen. Because not all file system errors can be safely recovered this way, we wrote comprehensive documentation on how to recover data from the Persistent Storage using complementary techniques. Update Tor Browser to 13.5.6. Improve the notification when a network interface is disabled because MAC address anonymization failed. Increase the maximum waiting time to 8 minutes when unlocking the Persistent Storage before returning an error. Hide shown password while unlocking Persistent Storage." A full list of changes can be found in the project's release announcement. Download (pkglist): tails-amd64-6.8.img (1,484MB, signature, torrent), tails-amd64-6.8.iso (1,474MB, signature, torrent). |

Distribution Release: Tails 6.4 |
The Amnesic Incognito Live System (Tails) is a Debian-based live DVD/USB with the goal of providing complete Internet anonymity for the user. The distribution's latest version, Tails 6.4, introduces a random seed to help strength cryptographic functions: "Tails now stores a random seed on the USB stick to strengthen all cryptography. Having a secure random number generator is critical to some of the cryptography used in Tails, for example, in the Persistent Storage, Tor, or HTTPS. This random seed is stored outside of the Persistent Storage so that all users can benefit from stronger cryptography. Changes and updates: switch to using HTTPS addresses instead of an onion addresses for the Debian and Tails APT repositories, this makes the Additional Software feature more reliable; update Tor Browser to 13.0.16; update the Tor client to 0.4.8.12; update Thunderbird to 115.12.0. Fixed problems: fix more issues when unlocking the persistent storage; fix connecting to a mobile broadband network on some hardware; enable again the PDF reader of Thunderbird that we disabled in Tails 6.3 for security reasons; improve the error message of Tails Cloner when the target USB stick cannot be unmounted because it is being used...." Additional details can be found in the release announcement. Download (pkglist): tails-amd64-6.4.iso (1,396MB, signature, torrent), tails-amd64-6.4.img (1,406MB, signature, torrent). |

Distribution Release: Tails 6.0 |
The Amnesic Incognito Live System (Tails) is a Debian-based live DVD/USB with the goal of providing complete Internet anonymity for the user. The project's latest release, version 6.0, places a focus on accessing storage and protecting the user from malicious storage devices. "Tails 6.0 warns you about errors when reading or writing from your Tails USB stick. These alerts can help you diagnose hardware failures on your USB stick and backup your Persistent Storage before it's too late. Mount external devices automatically - When you plug in an external storage device, a USB stick or an external hard disk, Tails 6.0 mounts it automatically. If the storage device contains an encrypted partition, Tails 6.0 offers you to unlock the encryption automatically. This feature also simplifies how to unlock VeraCrypt encrypted volumes. Protection against malicious USB devices - If an attacker manages to plug a malicious USB device in your computer, they could run software that breaks the security built in Tails without your knowledge. To protect from such attacks while you are away from your computer, Tails 6.0 ignores any USB device that is plugged in while your screen is locked." These and additional features are covered in the release announcement. Download: tails-amd64-6.0.img (1,359MB, signature, torrent, pkglist). |

Distribution Release: Tails 5.13 |
The Amnesic Incognito Live System (Tails) is a Debian-based live DVD/USB with the goal of providing complete Internet anonymity for the user. The project has added a few new tools to the distribution in Tails 5.13, including the cURL downloading program which will run over the Tor network by default. Encryption for persistent storage has also been upgraded. "Add curl, a command line tool to download over HTTPS, FTP, and other protocols. curl can be useful for online investigations as an alternative to wget. Everything you do with curl goes through the Tor network. If you want to use curl on a local network, use /usr/bin/curl instead. Use LUKS2 by default for all new Persistent Storage and LUKS encrypted volumes. LUKS2 provide stronger cryptography by default. We will provide a migration plan from LUKS1 to LUKS2 for existing Persistent Storage in Tails 5.14 (early June). Update Tor Browser to 12.0.6."
