N-iX Desktop Linux
N-iX Destkop Linux was a Linux Distribution based on Fedora Core. You can download the ISO images and just have a N-iX customised version of Fedora with some additional stuff, like Java, Flash, Adobe Acrobat Reader, K3B and other software working right from the box. You don't need to search and install those programs. But if you also want to run N-iX tools, like XPlat Messenger Client, Cross Network Client you should buy a licence for N-iX Desktop Linux.

Project Trident is a new member to the DistroWatch database and a desktop operating system based on TrueOS (which is, in turn, based on FreeBSD's development branch). The first official stable release of Project Trident is based on technologies from FreeBSD 13.0-CURRENT and features the Lumina desktop environment. "This version is based off the 18.12-stable branch of TrueOS (FreeBSD 13-CURRENT), using the new TrueOS distribution framework with several add-ons by Project Trident itself. The packages with this release were created from the TrueOS ports tree as-of January 7th. We are planning to release regular updates to packages every week or two depending on the state of the ports tree at any given time. In this release, both the Chromium and Iridium browsers have also been fixed and function normally again. 18.12-RELEASE has been a long time in development, and we wish to say a bit 'Thank You!' to everybody who has been helping test out the pre-release versions, find issues, submit fixes both to us and to upstream FreeBSD/TrueOS, and in general being a wonderful and supportive community! Project Trident uses the Lumina desktop as well as a number of self-developed system administration utilities. The Void-based distribution is installed on the ZFS filesystem to provide snapshots and rollback features.

Project Trident has completed its initial move from being based on TrueOS to adopting the Void Linux distribution as its foundation. The Project Trident team have published their first stable version, 20.02: "Project Trident is pleased to announce the first official release image based on Void Linux, available on the Project Trident download page. Please note the Project Trident installer supports four different installation levels: Void: Only the base-system from Void Linux and ZFS-related bootloader packages are installed. Server: A CLI-based system with additional services and utilities installed from Project Trident (firewall, cron, autofs, wireguard, additional shells, etc.) Lite Desktop: Everything needed for a graphical desktop install using Lumina. No extra fluff. Full Desktop: The Lite install with quite a few additional end-user utilities (office suite, Telegram, multimedia apps, etc). Note: These installation levels provide pre-defined lists of packages to install for user convenience. The installed system can be easily be changed afterwards using the built-in package system." Development Release: Project Trident Void Beta |

The Project Trident team have published their second development snapshot which uses Void as its base. Past versions of Project Trident have been based on TrueOS and this new beta snapshot expands the features Trident can provide on its new base. "What is new since the alpha image? Boot environment support for fully-separate datasets and snapshot rollback for boot environments. This is provided by the new zfsbootmenu utility created by Zack Dykstra. It is only configured for EFI-based bootloader support. Legacy-boot systems cannot use boot environments at the present time. User accounts - A single user account is created at installation. For EFI-booted systems, this user home directory is encrypted. It is configured so that logging in to the user account also decrypts the dataset for that user. Logging out locks the user dataset. Encrypted datasets are not supported on legacy-boot systems. Encrypting any ZFS datasets breaks the ability for GRUB to support booting the ZFS pool. A new trident-mkuser utility has been created for making additional user accounts. This utility supports creating encrypted home directories and will be included later as part of the trident-core package. Installer changes... lots of them." The Project Trident team has published their first development snapshot which uses Void as its base. Past versions of Project Trident have been based on TrueOS and this alpha snapshot demonstrates some of the features Trident can provide on its new base. "What does this image provide? A full ZFS-on-root installation of Void Linux. A full walk-through of the installation procedure in an easy-to-use fashion. No experience with disk formatting or partitioning is required. Hybrid EFI and BIOS-boot capabilities. Both for the ISO and for the system post-install. Encrypted swap on ZFS (if swap space is selected). Support for both glibc and musl versions of Void packages in a single installer. Support for detecting and connecting to Wireless networks in an easy-to-use series of prompts (DHCP only). These settings get transferred over to the new installation for out-of-box network support. Due to the constant flow of updates to the Void Linux package repositories, this image is a complete net-install implementation. This means that all installed packages are always the current version from the repository, and result in a system which is fully up to date after the install is completed." Project Trident is a rolling release operating system based on TrueOS. The project latest release, Project Trident 19.06, features many application and base package upgrades. "This is a significant package update for the repository, not just for applications, but also for some of the base system packages. There are a lot of changes from upstream FreeBSD and TrueOS in this release, from additional '-bootstrap' base packages to the renaming of the 'zol' flavor of base packages to 'nozfs', as the 'zol' version of the ZFS packages was also renamed to 'openzfs'. In addition to this, a ton of the default settings from upstream TrueOS were changed. We have tried to track down and re-enable every setting which Project Trident needed from TrueOS, but if you find some functional regression (particularly when it comes to which kernel modules are loaded by default), please let us know so that we can track that down and re-enable any additional settings as needed." Project Trident, a desktop operating system based on TrueOS (derived from FreeBSD's development tree), has been updated to version 19.04. This release continues to use the technologies from the FreeBSD 13.0-CURRENT branch and it comes with updated Lumina desktop environment, version 1.5.0: "Project Trident version 19.04 (based on TrueOS 19.04) is now available. Important changes between 18.12-U8 and 19.04: OS version moved to the latest stable tag from TrueOS - v20190412; packages built from the ports tree as of April 22, 2019 - we expect a fast turnaround with a U1 update to bring us back up to the latest version of the ports tree; the Lumina desktop environment has been updated to version 1.5.0; the Qt 4 libraries and all Qt 4-based utilities have been removed from the upstream FreeBSD ports tree; rEFInd has been incorporated into the Project Trident install ISO image by default; all installations via UEFI will install both rEFInd and the FreeBSD bootloader to more easily support multi-boot situations."
