About EndeavourOS
EndeavourOS is a rolling release Linux distribution based on Arch Linux. The project aims to be a spiritual successor to Antergos - providing an easy setup and pre-configured desktop environment on an Arch base. EndeavourOS offers both off-line and on-line install options. The off-line installer, Calamares, uses the Xfce desktop by default. Distribution Release: EndeavourOS 2024.06.25 |
EndeavourOS is a rolling release Linux distribution based on Arch Linux. The project aims to be a spiritual successor to Antergos. The Endeavour project is celebrating its fifth anniversary with a new release which carries the code name "Endeavour". Along with package updates, including Plasma 6.1, this snapshot updates Endeavour's ARM images, and includes a few fixes: "To mark our fifth anniversary and coming full circle, we gave this release the one-off code name 'Endeavour'. This release carries the usual upstream changes as with our other releases: Calamares 24.06.1.2, Firefox 127.0.1, Linux kernel 6.9.6, Mesa 24.1.2, X.Org Server 21.1.13, NVIDIA 550.90.07, Plasma 6.1 for both the live environment as the offline install option. Installation doesn't crash anymore when the EOS apps are deselected in Calamares. Fixed language selection for Italian users for vconsole. The r8168 legacy driver package is removed from our default installation options due to removal from the Arch repo. Most legacy Realtek hardware will run with the Realtek drivers provided by the Linux kernel. In some cases, a workaround is needed described in this thread post." Distribution Release: EndeavourOS 2024.04.20 |
Bryan Poerwo has announced the release of EndeavourOS 2024.04.20, code-named "Gemini", a major update of the project's desktop Linux distribution based on Arch Linux. This release features KDE Plasma 6, a choice of X11 or Wayland display servers and a Calamares installer ported to the Qt 6 toolkit: "With the arrival of Plasma 6 and Qt 6, it was high time to celebrate them with a new major release. Gemini ships with: Calamares 3.3.5, Firefox 125.0.1, Linux kernel 6.8.7, Mesa 24.0.5, NVIDIA 550.76-1, X.Org Server 21.1.13. New features and fixes: Plasma 6 on both the Live environment and the offline installation option – the Live environment runs X11 to ensure support for all hardware and when Plasma is chosen as the installed DE, both offline and online options, Wayland will be the default, but X11 can be chosen as an option in SDDM; we switched from NVIDIA-dkms to NVIDIA packages – NVIDIA-dkms was causing issues, like freezing the Live environment when NVIDIA boot was chosen on the ISO image; ARM installation option is removed; EFI partiton is created correctly when 'replace partition' option is chosen...." Distribution Release: EndeavourOS 11-2023 |
Bryan Poerwo has announced the release of EndeavourOS 11-2023, code-named "Galileo", a major update of the project's Arch-based Linux distribution. In this release, the live ISO image ships with KDE Plasma desktop (instead of Xfce), Linux kernel 6.6.1 and an updated Calamares system installer: "It has taken a while to develop this release but we are still here and despite life throwing in extra challenges for each of our team members the past months, we are proud to present you our Galileo ISO with significant changes. KDE Plasma replaced Xfce as the Live environment and on the offline install option. To make development and maintenance easier for the team, we switched to KDE Plasma instead of Xfce due to a more native experience for our developers with the Calamares installer. This only affects the Live environment and the offline install option. When choosing the online install option, Xfce is still there as an option to choose from. For those who like the Xfce theme we created, this option will still be available after installation through the Welcome app." See the release announcement for a complete list of changes and screenshots. Distribution Release: EndeavourOS 22.12 |
Bryan Poerwo has announced the release of EndeavourOS 22.12, an updated build of the project's Arch-based Linux distribution with Xfce as the default desktop (and with other popular desktops available for selection during the installation process). This version ships with the just-release Xfce 4.18: "Cassini packed with new features is here. It took the development team on a longer journey than expected but we are proud to present our latest 'Cassini' release, named after the NASA mission with the Cassini spacecraft carrying the Huygens probe. Just like the NASA mission that had its fair share of nail-biting moments, this release had some nail-biting test runs because getting here required a major overhaul in how we build our ISO image. The last time we presented such a major overhaul was our ISO-Next release back in August 2021. This ISO image and the offline install comes with: Calamares 3.3.0-alpha3, Firefox 108.0.1, Linux kernel 6.0.12, Mesa 22.3.1, X.Org Server 21.1.5, NVIDIA 525.60.11, GRUB 2.06." Distribution Release: EndeavourOS 22.6 |
Bryan Poerwo has announced the release of EndeavourOS 22.6, the latest stable version of the project's Arch-based, "terminal-centric" Linux distribution featuring a customised Xfce desktop. Code-named "Artemis", the new release brings an improved support for the ARM architecture: "We are proud to present the 'Artemis' release, named after the upcoming NASA mission to the moon and I do refer to that mission for a reason, but more on that later. Artemis is our regular ISO refresh release, so users who already are running EndeavourOS don’t have to install this release, you already are up-to-date. Besides the regular updates and improvements on the ISO image and the installation process is this release the first ISO that brings EndeavourOS ARM closer to the main release. Just like NASA’s Artemis mission will be to go back to the moon and also lay the foundation for the future (Mars) missions, the Artemis release is laying the foundation for the future of EndeavourOS ARM. From the launch of our ARM branch in 2020, it was always our goal to integrate the ARM install process as an option on the main ISO release. After a lot of brainstorming and perseverance, we are proud to present you with our first milestone step in bringing the two projects closer together." Distribution Release: EndeavourOS 21.4 |
EndeavourOS is a rolling release Linux distribution based on Arch Linux. The project's latest snapshot is version 21.4 which includes several new improvements and fixes. "NVIDIA users have a new sanity check for NVIDIA and kernel updates. The check helps preventing boot problems after update. Apps UpdateInTerminal, eos-update-notifier and welcome include this update check. Welcome has a new button DE: information (DE is the installed desktop name) and opens the browser to the dedicated DE info page. Our eos-apps-info is added by default. The eos-apps-info-helper is now capable of showing information about many more apps, and it supports using a web browser which can be configured by yourself. An addition to paccache-service-manager has been made, which now ships with a checkbox for deleting the cache of uninstalled packages. A new and improved schedule configuration window for eos-update-notifier. The function grub-tools now adds info and warnings when needed about variable GRUB_DISABLE_OS_PROBER in /etc/default/grub. An improvement on AKM that marks the current running kernel with the * symbol." These and other improvements can covered in the project's release announcement. Distribution Release: EndeavourOS 2021.08.27 |
Bryan Poerwo has announced the availability of EndeavourOS 2021.08.27, the latest stable version of the project's rolling-release Arch Linux-based distribution with Xfce as the default desktop. This release brings major changes to the Calamares system installer: "The changes for Calamares are the most significant ones made on this release. In comparison to our previous releases, this release brings us to a higher level and we are confident to say that this ISO image is a milestone step towards our future. The changes made are complete overhaul under the hood of Calamares with a significant speed increase in installation as the most stellar improvement. This was achieved by throwing our previous system entirely out of the window and building the ISO image from scratch, which resulted in an installer that is fast, light, easy to maintain, easy to add new features in and a hugely improved user experience. Test results did clock an online install time from three to fifteen minutes, depending on the available internet speed." See the release announcement for further information and screenshots. Distribution Release: EndeavourOS 2021.04.17 |
Bryan Poerwo has announced the release of a new version of EndeavourOS, a rolling-release Linux distribution based on Arch Linux. It aims to be an easy-to-install and pre-configured system featuring Xfce as the default desktop environment. From the release announcement: "We are proud to announce our second release of 2021 and this one is a bit more than a refresh ISO image release, so before you hit the download button and go play with it, just sit back and let us inform you first because we are really excited about this release. We already covered our websites receiving a new look but in this case, I want to put the spotlight on our wiki. Our Discovery magazine has been discontinued due to a lack of writers and it now has been rebooted as the EndeavourOS knowledge base for both x86_64 and ARM. The other new feature on the knowledge base are video tutorials - like the wiki articles, this category will expand over time and at the moment it contains general Linux and Arch-specific tutorials from the Chris Titus Tech and EF Linux YouTube channels."
