Yousuf Philips has announced the release of Xubuntu 20.04, the latest stable version from the project that develops an official Ubuntu spin with Xfce as the preferred desktop: "The Xubuntu team is happy to announce the immediate release of Xubuntu 20.04. Xubuntu 20.04, code-named 'Focal Fossa', is a long-term support (LTS) release and will be supported for three years, until April 2023. The Xubuntu team has been hard at work for the last six months of this development cycle improving both the Xfce desktop environment and the Xubuntu user experience following our 19.10 release, which introduced Xfce 4.14 for the first time. We were thrilled by the response to the Ubuntu testing week which helped us make 20.04 another great and stable release. Highlights: a brand-new dark theme, Greybird-dark, has been added, complementing the default Greybird theme; six community wallpapers are bundled from winners of the Community Wallpaper Contest; with the end of life of Python 2, we no longer ship it by default, while apt-offline and pidgin-libnotify are no longer included." Distribution Release: Xubuntu 17.10 |
|
The Xubuntu team has announced the release of Xubuntu 17.10. The new version includes significant improvements to accelerated video playback on Intel video cards. The distribution also includes support for driverless printing and includes the GNOME Font Viewer by default. "The GNOME Font Viewer is now included by default. New device, mimetype, and monochrome panel icons have been included with the elementary-xfce icon theme. We usually link directly to the Ubuntu release notes, but there are several significant improvements that affect all flavours and our users: Accelerated video playback with Intel hardware should now work more reliably out of the box. The changes might also bring some performance improvements for Parole and Chromium users. Bluetooth and USB audio devices should now work better by default due to changes in BlueZ and PulseAudio. Driverless printing has been added to Ubuntu. This provides support for most modern printers: IPP Everywhere, Apple AirPrint, Mopria, PCLm, and Wifi Direct as supported. Other printers can still be added from the Printers dialog." Further information can be found in the project's release announcement. |
The Xubuntu project has released a new version of the project's Xfce-oriented distribution. The new release, Xubuntu 16.10, shares a package base with Ubuntu 16.10 and will be supported for nine months. The new version of Xubuntu features Xfce desktop packages built with the GTK+ 3 toolkit, which replaces the legacy GTK+ 2 toolkit. "The Xubuntu team is pleased to announce the immediate release of Xubuntu 16.10. Xubuntu 16.10 is a normal release and will be supported for nine months. This release has seen little visible change since April's 16.04, however much has been done towards supplying Xubuntu with Xfce packages built with GTK+ 3, including the porting of many plugins and Xfce Terminal to GTK+ 3. Those GTK+ 3 ports can, if one wishes to test them, be installed from one of the team's development PPAs. Known issues: Thunar is still the subject of a few bugs, though they all appear to revolve around similar issues; on some hardware the password is sometimes required twice when returning from suspend."
