The ExTiX distribution is an Ubuntu-based project which features alternative desktop environments. The project's latest release is ExTiX 21.7 which includes the LXQt desktop running on an Ubuntu 20.04.2 base. "I’ve made a new updated “mini” version of ExTiX – The Ultimate Linux System. It is based on Ubuntu 20.04.2 LTS Focal Fossa. The ISO file is of only 1000MB, which is good if you want to run the system super fast from RAM. It should be enough with 2GB RAM. When the boot process is ready you can eject the DVD or USB stick. Use Boot alternative 2. The best thing with ExTiX 21.7 is that while running the system live (from DVD/USB) or from hard drive you can use Refracta Snapshot (pre-installed) to create your own live installable Ubuntu 20.04.2 system. So easy that a ten year child can do it! ExTiX 21.7 uses kernel 5.13.1-exton. Ubuntu 20.04 LTS will be supported until April 2025." Further details can be found in the project's release announcement. Distribution Release: ExTiX 24.8 |
ExTiX is a distribution in the Debian family which offers alterative desktop environments. The project's latest release, ExTiX 24.8, is based on deepin 23. "New functions etc. in ExTiX 24.8 'Deepin': 1. VirtualBox Guest Additions are not pre-installed. No real need for them since you can run ExTiX in full screen in VirtualBox by just changing the screen resolution. 2. You can run ExTiX from RAM. Use boot alternative 2 (load to RAM) or Advanced. A wonderful way to run Linux if you have enough RAM. Everything will be super fast. When ExTiX has booted up you can remove the DVD or USB stick. 3. You can use Deepin Installer as an alternative to Refracta Installer. Use Deepin Installer preferable on UEFI computers if you want/need to install or reinstall GRUB. 4. I have installed Google Chrome 127.0.6533.119-1 as a replacement for Deepin's Browser, which suddenly can be in Chinese. 5. I've added Synaptic Package Manager. A must I think. Watch a screenshot when Synaptic is running. 6. You can watch Netflix while running Google Chrome...." Additional details can be found in the project's release announcement. Distribution Release: ExTiX 23.4 |
ExTiX is a deepin-based (previously Ubuntu-based) distribution. The latest version is ExTiX 23.4 which previews changes coming to the deepin distribution. "I've released a new version of ExTiX Deepin today (2023-04-03). This ExTiX build is based on deepin 23 alpha 2 (the latest version) released by Deepin Technology on 2023-02-08. Please read the release notes. As you can see, the developers urge people to try deepin alpha 2 in a non-production environment. I must say, though, that I haven't discovered any bugs. And the installed programs won't crash or anything like that. On the contrary, ExTiX Deepin 23.4 with the Deepin DE 23 works pretty well I would say. I have nevertheless kept ExTiX 22.12 with deepin 20.8 on the server. deepin 20.8 is the stable version released 221208. ExTiX 23.4 uses kernel 6.3-rc4. ExTiX 23.4 works in the same way as all other ExTiX versions, i.e. you can install it to hard drive while running the system live. Use the Refracta installer for that." Additional details are offered in the release announcement. Download (MD5): extix-23.4-64bit-deepin-23-refracta-3050mb-230403.iso (3,129MB, pkglist). |

Distribution Release: ExTiX 22.9 |
The ExTiX distribution is an Ubuntu-based project which features alternative desktop environments. The latest version of ExTiX uses the KDE Plasma desktop and ships with the Anbox software for running Android applications. The release announcement shares details: "News about ExTiX 22.9 Build 220922 with the KDE Plasma Desktop environment together with Anbox (Android in a Box), Refracta Installer and Refracta Snapshot: 1. ExTiX KDE Plasma is based on Ubuntu 22.04.1 LTS Jammy Jellyfish. KDE Plasma is used as the desktop environment together with Anbox (Android in a Box). All packages have been updated to the latest version by 220922. 2. I have pre-installed Anbox (Android in a Box) with Google Play Store. So GAPPS (Google Play Services and Google Play Store) are pre-installed in this version of ExTiX. Anbox won't run live (from a DVD or a USB stick) or in VirtualBox. You will get an error message. That's because VirtualBox as of yet does not support nested virtualization. In this version of ExTiX KDE/Anbox you can run the YouTube app with good video and sound quality. Not with the very best quality." Download: extix-22.9-64bit-kde-anbox-4830mb-220922.iso (4,946MB, MD5, pkglist). |

Distribution Release: ExTiX 14.1 |
Arne Exton has announced the release of ExTiX 14.1, an Ubuntu-based distribution with a customised GNOME 3.10 desktop environment: "ExTiX 14.1 64-bit is based on Ubuntu 14.04. The original system includes the Unity desktop. After removing Unity I have installed GNOME 3.10 and GNOME Classic 3.10 (a perfect replacement for Cinnamon). The system language is English. The ExTiX ISO image is now a hybrid image, which means that it can be very easily transferred to a USB pen drive. You can then run ExTiX from the USB stick and save all your system changes on the stick. Another big improvement is that ExTiX 14.1 can run from RAM. Use boot option 3 (Copy to RAM). When the system has booted up you can remove the disc or the USB stick. You'll need at least 2 GB of RAM to run ExTiX that way." Another big improvement is that ExTiX 14 can run from RAM. Use boot alternative 2 (Copy to RAM). When the system has booted up you can remove the disc (DVD) or USB stick. You'll need at least 2 GB RAM to run ExTiX that way. ExTiX is now more stable than ever. All packages have been upgraded to the latest version by 2013-12-23." Distribution Release: ExTiX 9 |
Arne Exton has announced the release of ExTiX 9, an Ubuntu-based desktop distribution for 64-bit computers with GNOME Shell and Razor-qt as the available desktop environments and the latest stable Linux kernel: "ExTiX 9 x64 is a remastered build of Ubuntu 11.10. The original system includes the Unity desktop with GNOME 3.2. In ExTiX 9, I have installed GNOME Shell and Razor-qt so that everyone can compare the two desktop environments. I have replaced the original kernel 3.0.0-14-generic with 'my' kernel 3.1.6-extix. Why? Support for many different kinds of hardware has been added in the latest stable kernel. So if you have acquired new hardware which is not supported in Ubuntu 11.10 and/or Linux systems based on Ubuntu 11.10 it might be worth testing ExTiX 9. There is, among other things, support for brand-new USB devices, like printers and cameras." Visit the project's home page to read the release announcement.
