Distribution Release: ExTiX 24.8 |
ExTiX is a distribution in the Debian family which offers alterative desktop environments. The project's latest release, ExTiX 24.8, is based on deepin 23. "New functions etc. in ExTiX 24.8 'Deepin': 1. VirtualBox Guest Additions are not pre-installed. No real need for them since you can run ExTiX in full screen in VirtualBox by just changing the screen resolution. 2. You can run ExTiX from RAM. Use boot alternative 2 (load to RAM) or Advanced. A wonderful way to run Linux if you have enough RAM. Everything will be super fast. When ExTiX has booted up you can remove the DVD or USB stick. 3. You can use Deepin Installer as an alternative to Refracta Installer. Use Deepin Installer preferable on UEFI computers if you want/need to install or reinstall GRUB. 4. I have installed Google Chrome 127.0.6533.119-1 as a replacement for Deepin's Browser, which suddenly can be in Chinese. 5. I've added Synaptic Package Manager. A must I think. Watch a screenshot when Synaptic is running. 6. You can watch Netflix while running Google Chrome...." Additional details can be found in the project's release announcement. Distribution Release: ExTiX 23.4 |
ExTiX is a deepin-based (previously Ubuntu-based) distribution. The latest version is ExTiX 23.4 which previews changes coming to the deepin distribution. "I've released a new version of ExTiX Deepin today (2023-04-03). This ExTiX build is based on deepin 23 alpha 2 (the latest version) released by Deepin Technology on 2023-02-08. Please read the release notes. As you can see, the developers urge people to try deepin alpha 2 in a non-production environment. I must say, though, that I haven't discovered any bugs. And the installed programs won't crash or anything like that. On the contrary, ExTiX Deepin 23.4 with the Deepin DE 23 works pretty well I would say. I have nevertheless kept ExTiX 22.12 with deepin 20.8 on the server. deepin 20.8 is the stable version released 221208. ExTiX 23.4 uses kernel 6.3-rc4. ExTiX 23.4 works in the same way as all other ExTiX versions, i.e. you can install it to hard drive while running the system live. Use the Refracta installer for that." Additional details are offered in the release announcement. Download (MD5): extix-23.4-64bit-deepin-23-refracta-3050mb-230403.iso (3,129MB, pkglist). |

Distribution Release: ExTiX 22.9 |
The ExTiX distribution is an Ubuntu-based project which features alternative desktop environments. The latest version of ExTiX uses the KDE Plasma desktop and ships with the Anbox software for running Android applications. The release announcement shares details: "News about ExTiX 22.9 Build 220922 with the KDE Plasma Desktop environment together with Anbox (Android in a Box), Refracta Installer and Refracta Snapshot: 1. ExTiX KDE Plasma is based on Ubuntu 22.04.1 LTS Jammy Jellyfish. KDE Plasma is used as the desktop environment together with Anbox (Android in a Box). All packages have been updated to the latest version by 220922. 2. I have pre-installed Anbox (Android in a Box) with Google Play Store. So GAPPS (Google Play Services and Google Play Store) are pre-installed in this version of ExTiX. Anbox won't run live (from a DVD or a USB stick) or in VirtualBox. You will get an error message. That's because VirtualBox as of yet does not support nested virtualization. In this version of ExTiX KDE/Anbox you can run the YouTube app with good video and sound quality. Not with the very best quality." Download: extix-22.9-64bit-kde-anbox-4830mb-220922.iso (4,946MB, MD5, pkglist). |

Distribution Release: ExTiX 22.5 |
ExTiX is an Ubuntu-based desktop distribution which replaces the default desktop environment with alternatives. The latest version of ExTiX is 22.5 which is based on Ubuntu 22.04, a long-term support release. "ExTiX Mini Build 220501 with LXQt and Linux kernel 5.17.2 - run it super fast from RAM and/or create your own Linux system using Refracta Snapshot. I've made a new updated mini version of ExTiX - the ultimate Linux system. It is based on Ubuntu 22.04 LTS 'Jammy Jellyfish'. The ISO image file is of only 1,340 MB which is good if you want to run the system super fast from RAM. It should be enough with 2 GB of RAM. When the boot process is ready, you can eject the DVD or the USB stick. Use 'Boot alternative 2'. The best thing with ExTiX 22.5 is that while running the system live (from DVD or USB) or from hard drive, you can use Refracta Snapshot (pre-installed) to create your own live installable Ubuntu 22.04 system. So easy that a ten-year old child can do it. ExTiX 22.5 uses Linux kernel 5.17.2. Ubuntu 22.04 LTS will be supported until April 2027." Additional information and screenshots can be found in the release announcement. Download (MD5): extix-22.5-64bit-efi-lxqt-mini-1340mb-220501.iso (1,379MB, pkglist). |

Distribution Release: ExTiX 21.11 |
ExTiX is an Ubuntu-based distribution featuring a variety of desktop environments. The project's latest release is ExTiX 21.11 which ships with the LXQt desktop. "I have made a new version of ExTiX - The Ultimate Linux System. I call it ExTiX 21.11 LXQt Live DVD. (The previous LXQt version was 21.5 from 210516). ExTiX 21.11 is based on a pre-release (not even BETA) of Ubuntu 22.04 LTS (Jammy Jellyfish)! Ubuntu 22.04 will be supported until 2027. The best thing with ExTiX 21.11 is that while running the system live (from DVD/USB) or from hard drive you can use Refracta Snapshot (pre-installed) to create your own live installable Ubuntu system. So easy that a ten year child can do it! One other very good thing with this version of ExTiX is that it is quite light. The ISO file is of only 1580 MB, which means that you can run the system super fast from RAM. When the boot process is ready you can eject the DVD or USB stick. Use Boot alternative 3 or Advanced options -> load to RAM. Important note: Since this version of ExTiX is based on a pre-release of Ubuntu you shouldn't use it for sensitive work/business. Having said that I must also say that I haven't found any bugs." Further details can be found in the distribution's release announcement.
