The Nitrux team have published a new version of the project's Debian-based distribution. The project's latest release, which is labelled "fefc905b" and referred to as 3.2.0 in the release announcement updates the kernel, key desktop applications, and enforces strict password checks in the Calamares system installer. "Nitrux 3.2.0 build.301123.fx uses Linux 6.6.2-1 (Liquorix). We’ve updated the following components of the distribution. Firefox to version 120.0. KDE Gear version 23.08.3. Updates to our Calamares settings include the following. Calamares will now enforce a stricter user password quality check by using libpwquality to increase user account security. When creating the main user account, i.e., the 'system administrator,' users must use a password over eight characters long, including uppercase, lowercase, numbers, and symbols, when creating their user accounts during installation. We recommend using a password generator application or website. Otherwise, the password quality check will be too low, and the installation will not continue." Distribution Release: Nitrux d5c7cdff |
Nitrux is a Linux distribution based on Debian's Unstable (sid) branch with additional packages pulled in from Ubuntu repositories. The distribution's latest release (which is alternatively labelled "2.6.0", "ff", and "d5c7cdff") includes version 6.1.0 of the Linux kernel, KDE Plasma 5.26.4, Pipewire, and includes Wayland as a session option. "We've updated the following components of the distribution. For other information, see Notes. KDE Plasma to version 5.26.4, KDE Frameworks to version 5.101.0, and KDE Gear to version 22.12.0. Firefox to version 108.0.1. We've updated MESA to version 23.0git. Disclaimer: We do not develop or package MESA. To file bugs against MESA, please use their bug tracker. We've added PipeWire and Wayland by default. Plasma (Wayland) is available to select from SDDM. Important: If using an NVIDIA GPU, check the KDE Wiki instructions here to use the Plasma (Wayland) session, YMMV. Disclaimer: We do not develop KWin, Wayland, Plasma Wayland or the NVIDIA proprietary driver. For the best experience using the Plasma (Wayland) session, use a Linux-friendly GPU and driver such as Intel or AMD. The Plasma (Wayland) session is not the default; the Plasma (X11) session is still the default." Additional information is provided in the release announcement. Distribution Release: Nitrux 20221101 |
The Nitrux developers have published a new release which features updates to KDE Plasma, the Firefox browser and includes NVIDIA's proprietary video driver. "We've updated the following components of the distribution. For other information, see Notes. KDE Plasma to version 5.26.2, KDE Frameworks to version 5.99.0, and KDE Gear to version 22.08.2. Firefox to version 106.0.2. We've decided to add the NVIDIA Proprietary driver to the default installation, currently version 520.56.06, along with NVIDIA Prime, but not our X11 configuration. We've decided to change our policy about including this particular piece of proprietary software to make this distribution more accessible to users and to avoid creating a separate ISO file. The minimal ISO does not include the NVIDIA Proprietary driver, as we want to keep the size of the ISO image small. We're aware that NVIDIA had released an open-source driver, too; however, it only supports a handful of professional graphics cards and almost none of their consumer graphics cards." Additional information is provided in the distribution's release announcement. The announcement refers to the new version of Nitrux as 2.5.0 while the provided media is labelled using the date of the release: 20221101. Nitrux is a Debian-based, desktop distribution which features a customized KDE Plasma desktop and the OpenRC service manager. The project's latest release updates key packages and features Pacstall, a framework for installing third-party software, similar to Arch Linux's user repository (AUR). "We've updated the following components of the distribution: KDE Plasma to version 5.23.5 KDE Frameworks to version 5.90.0, KDE Gear to version 21.12.1, Firefox to version 96.0, Pacstall to version 1.7.1, LibreOffice to version 7.5.2. We have tweaked our default configuration to provide smoother KWin performance and overall system responsiveness. The release announcement contains further information and screenshots. Please note that the release announcement refers to this version as "2.0.0" while the ISO files are tagged with the date (2022-01-29) only.
