Daniel Napora has announced the release of Mabox Linux 23.12, an updated build of the project's lightweight Linux distribution that features a customised desktop based on the Openbox window manager. The new release updates the Linux kernel to the long-term supported (LTS) version 6.6: "The December 2023 release of refreshed ISO images brings the latest 6.6 LTS kernel. Of course, there is still an ISO image available with the slightly older 5.4 LTS kernel version which may be a good choice for some older hardware. The Tint2 panel and Jgmenu are known for offering advanced users incredible capabilities and customization options. We use these possibilities in Mabox. One of the unique features of the Tint2 panel is the ability to connect your own actions (commands or scripts) to events such as left, middle or right click, mouse wheel up or down on panel elements. Conky in Mabox has been equipped with additional features that you will not find in any other Linux distribution. Here again, the wonderful Jgmenu was used with the addition of excellent glue - Bash scripts." Read the rest of the release announcement, with many screenshots, for further information. Distribution Release: Mabox Linux 22.12 |
Daniel Napora has announced the release of Mabox Linux 22.12, a major update of the project's Manjaro-based, rolling-release distribution with a highly customised Openbox window manager as the preferred desktop: "After more than a year of development, the new major release of Mabox Linux 22.12 'Istredd' is ready for download. In addition to numerous improvements, Istredd brings us two exciting and original features - Colorizer and context menus for Conky. Colorizer, a tool created especially for Mabox, allows you to easily and quickly adjust the colors of your desktop. Colorizer can even do this automatically based on the color palette of the currently set wallpaper. The advanced mode allows for more fine-tuning. The second functionality that is available for the first time in Mabox Istredd are context menus for Conky. The right-click context menu allows you to manage individual Conky properties, like the position on the screen, individual colors or the color scheme. The left-click context menu is for quick access to user-defined commands." Continue to the release announcement for more information and screenshots. Separate images with the 5.4 and 5.15 version of the Linux kernel are available; here are the download links: mabox-linux-22.12-Istredd-221224-linux515.iso (2,377MB, MD5, pkglist), mabox-linux-22.12-Istredd-221224-linux54.iso (2,324MB, MD5). |

Distribution Release: Mabox Linux 22.08 |
Daniel Napora has announced the release of Mabox Linux 22.08, a refreshed version of the project's Manjaro-based, rolling-release distribution featuring a customised Openbox window manager: "The 2022 August ISO refresh is ready for download. Built from Manjaro stable branch as of 2022-08-20. Available with the latest LTS Linux kernel 5.15 or the slightly older one, 5.4 LTS. This release is exciting because it marks the debut of a brand new tool, Colorizer, in development for half a year, now in beta. What is Colorizer? A set of scripts that allow you to easily and conveniently adjust the colors of many elements of the desktop, in the form of a set of dynamically generated menus. Current functionalities: Openbox theme coloring; coloring of the menu, panels and the entire set of Mabox tools; Conky coloring (as well as managing the Conky set and easy position change); creating themes for PyRadio; interactive HTML help; and finally, everything above can be generated automatically after each wallpaper change according to its color palette."
