SDesk is an Arch-based Linux distribution which strives for an easy to use, modern approach to desktop computing. The project's latest snapshot includes an updated copy of the Swirl browser and a number of improvements to the user's desktop experience. "The Thirteenth SDesk ISO is here with an updated Swirl browser that includes Lua plugin support, custom search engines and more, better window tiling support, an updated Calamares installer, better desktop icon support, and a brand new default background! The startup sound has also been modified so when it runs it is detached from the script that plays it, allowing SDesk to boot up even faster. Here is everything you need to know: Packages have been updated; SShell now includes a tiling assistant extension; SShell detaches the mplayer process that plays the startup sound; Swirl 2.2 now includes plugin support; Swirl 2.2 now allows you to add custom search engines to the browser...." SDesk is an Arch-based Linux distribution which strives for an easy to use, modern approach to desktop computing. The SDesk project ships up to date software and uses GNOME running on a Wayland session for its default desktop environment. The project's latest snapshot adds new drivers, especialy for touch interfaces, and shifts user creation from Calamares to the GNOME first-run wizard. "SDesk includes a massive amount of new drivers for touchscreens, fingerprint readers, and more. It now supports fractional scaling, too. The latest version of the Swirl browser is now shipped with a gorgeous new UI and a bunch of new features, and Plymouth, the Calamares installer, and both Octopi and the GNOME Shell extensions we ship by default have all been updated to their latest versions. It's also worth noting that Calamares no longer handles user creation, locales, or keyboard layout configuration, and all of this is now done by the GNOME Initial Setup application." Additional information is presented in the project's release announcement. Download: sdesk-2024.09.16-x86_64.iso (2,752MB, SHA256, signature, pkglist). |

Distribution Release: SDesk 2024.06.22 |
|
SDesk is an Arch-based Linux distribution which strives for an easy to use, modern approach to desktop computing. The project's latest snapshot is version 2024.06.22 which introduces a number of performance improvements, including a new kernel build. The release announcement shares details: "SDesk now uses the "linux-zen" kernel by default - bringing scheduler improvements, multiple optimizations, and more kernel modules that are shipped by default. I've also removed the "Blur my Shell" extension because - while it looks great - I found that it made SDesk a gigantic resource hog by default. I have made some SShell UI adjustments, too. A new version of the Swirl browser has been released with improved toolbar shortcuts (e.g: The magnifying glass now finds text) and countless bug fixes. You'll also notice that Swirl now supports localization. The calamares installer and octopi packages have also been updated to their latest versions."
