Rhino Linux is an Ubuntu-based distribution which offers a rolling-release upgrade approach. The distribution uses a customised Xfce desktop environment. The project has published its first release of 2024 which focuses on an update to the Pacstall repository: "Our main highlights for 2024.1 are Pacstall's 5.0.0+ releases, so please be sure to check out the provided release notes and updated wiki down below. Joint members of the Rhino Linux and Pacstall teams have been working hard over the last several months on these releases, and we are very excited about the development potential that they hold. Known issues: In the live boot of our ISOs, desktop icons are not appearing at the start (these issues do not persist after installation). To launch Calamares installer for Rhino Linux, you can simply select 'Install Rhino Linux' from the App Grid." Additional details, including changes incorporated from upstream, are covered in the project's release announcement. Download (SHA256): Rhino-Linux-2024.1-amd64.iso (2,149MB, pkglist). |

Distribution Release: Rhino Linux 2024.2 |
Rhino Linux is an Ubuntu-based distribution which offers a rolling-release upgrade approach. Rhino features a custom meta package manager which unifies Deb, Pacstall and Flatpak software management. The project's latest release, Rhino Linux 2024.2, includes a new theme and an overhauled configuration wizard. "Our Setup Wizard has just gotten a whole lot better, and we offer something for both regular and power users. We have added a signifcant number of containerization options, a new package manager, and even the option to add night shift. You can now select these additional options in the rhino-setup wizard: Nix, the package manager (note: rhino-pkg/rpk does not currently support Nix). Docker, for rapid containerization and development. Podman, a daemon-less, drop-in replacement for Docker. Flatseal, a GUI application for managing permissions on installed Flatpaks. Distrobox, a program that uses Docker or Podman to deploy containers for other distributions on top of Rhino. Apptainer, for developing smaller application containers. VirtualBox, a GUI virtual machine application. QEMU, a free and open source emulation backbone. Redshift, adjust the color temperature of your screen according to your surroundings." Distribution Release: Rhino Linux 2023.4 |
Rhino Linux is an Ubuntu-based distribution which offers a rolling-release upgrade approach. The project's latest release updates the distribution's desktop experience enabling the ability to auto-tile application windows. The project's package manager also introduces some new clean-up features. "After a long development period we're ready to finish off the year with a stellar release, as well as inform you, the community, of what to expect in 2024. Unicorn 39 has finally been merged, bringing optional auto-tiling to Unicorn. After updating and rebooting, a new applet will appear in the top right section of the panel. To kick start your tiling window experience, you can select the new applet, which will bring up a toggle to enable/disable tiling mode. uLauncher now appears more rounded, and has a slightly different background colour. If Nala is installed, rhino-pkg update no longer auto-removes packages by default. To clean up unneeded packages or broken dependencies on a system, users can run the new rhino-pkg cleanup command. Beginning with Pacstall 4.3.0, packages may now use Debian's priority flag." Additional details can be found in the project's release announcement. Distribution Release: Rhino Linux 2023.1 |
Rhino Linux is an Ubuntu-based distribution which offers a rolling release upgrade approach. The distribution's first stable release is available for x86_64, aarm64, Pine64 phones and tablets like the PinePhone, and Raspberry Pi computers. One of the key features of the new 2023.1 release is the unified meta package manager which is called rhino-pkg and can work with Deb, Pacstall, and portable package formats: "hino-pkg (rpk), which is a meta-package manager that combines apt, pacstall, flatpak, and snap into a nice little UI that can be used to install, remove, search, and upgrade all package managers at once. This was also my first time dabbling with i18n, and since it's not a large program, we have translated it into (as of the 6th of August, 2023) 14 different languages along with English, so that hopefully every user can understand what it's doing in their native language." Another key feature of the distribution is its custom Xfce desktop which the project refers to as the Unicorn Desktop. Additional details on the Rhino Linux 2023.1 release can be found in the project's release announcement. Download: Rhino-Linux-2023.1-amd64.iso (2,131MB, SHA256, pkglist). |
