Br OS is a Brazilian Linux distribution based on Ubuntu and featuring the KDE Plasma desktop. The project's latest release, Br OS 24.10, ships with the Plasma 6 desktop environment and enabled Wayland by default. "This is a regular version that aims to introduce new technologies to the system and the latest news is the introduction of KDE 6 which was responsible for this version coming with some features and design elements missing, since such features are still under development or have not yet been ported to Qt 6. With KDE Plasma 6 comes Qt 6, which opens up a huge range of possibilities for new features that will come gradually in the new versions of the system, now Br OS comes with Wayland by default, which is fully functional in KDE 6 a great news for KDE haters who complained about its instability (which made Br OS adopt Latte Dock to get around the problem), is that KDE 6 is incredibly stable, surpassing GNOME and other very solid environments, unfortunately the look of KDE 6 is very strange if you try to start the section via X.Org, however this should be fixed in future versions of KDE. This version comes with KDE Plasma 6.1.5, KDE Framework 6.6.0, Qt 6.6.2, Linux kernel 6.11, Wayland standard graphic server (X.Org as an alternative)." Additional details can be found in the release announcement. Download (MD5): Br-OS-24.10-desktop-amd64.iso (4,117MB, pkglist). |

Distribution Release: Br OS 13.0 |
Br OS is a Brazilian Linux distribution based on Debian and featuring the KDE Plasma desktop. The project's latest release, version 13.0, updates the desktop session from KDE Plasma 5 to version 6. It also migrates from using X11 by default to running a Wayland session, keeping X11 as a backup option. An English translation of the project's release announcement reads: "Once the previous version had validated the development method, we could focus on creating new features and remaking old features that had been temporarily left out due to the migration to Plasma 6, which broke every existing plugin, plasmoid and theme for KDE, and everything had to be redone. This version focused on making visual improvements, improving system automation and facilitating the installation of drivers, much that is done manually in Debian will be transparent to those who use Br OS, even ChatGPT on the desktop, a function that Br OS pioneered, is back! The Br OS 13 comes with Plasma 6.3.6; Qt 6.13; kernel 6.12.41; Wayland graphical server as main, and X.Org as alternative graphical server. Br OS brings the non-free repositories enabled, as well as native Flatpak support in the Discover app store via the Flathub repository." Distribution Release: Br OS 12.11 |
The Br OS project has announced the release of Br OS 12.11. The new version marks a significant milestone as the project has moved away from its Ubuntu base to using Debian as its parent distribution. "Stability is one of the things to expect, Debian 'Stable' is undoubtedly the most stable Linux distribution that exists. Focusing on Debian 'Stable' ensures that each version of Br OS is a long-term supported release with years of support, that is, if the user does not feel safe to upgrade to the next stable version, still have time to upgrade. Br OS 12.11 will have general Debian team support until December 2026 and LTS support until June 2028. Br OS now has its own nomenclature, each version will have its own code name, version 12.11 came with the code name 'Lara'. Despite the long-term support, Br OS 12.11 is a version that aims only to mark the migration to the Debian base, this means that very soon we will be releasing Br OS 13.0 Dira, which is already in the development phase. Br OS 12.11 comes with KDE Plasma 5.27.5, KDE Frameworks 5.103, Qt 5.15.8, Linux kernel 6.1, and Wayland graphics server, with X.Org as an alternative graphics server." Additional information is provided in the release announcement (in Portuguese). Download from SourceForge (MD5): BrOS-12.11_amd64.hybrid.iso (3,760MB, pkglist). |

Distribution Release: Br OS 24.04 |
Anderson Marques has announced the release of Br OS 24.04, a brand-new version of this Brazilian project's Kubuntu-based Linux distribution with Calamares as the system installer and built-in artificial intelligence (AI) features. After a heap of last-minute changes in the internal structure of Kubuntu, which delayed the release by eight days, Br OS 24.04 was made available with a new installer, new AI provider and, best of all, free of the recently-discovered Linux vulnerabilities. The release includes KDE Plasma 5.27, Qt 5.15.13, Linux kernel 6.8, the Calamares 3.3.5 installer, and Flatpak 1.14.6 with the Flathub repository active. Although the system comes with Perplexity AI as the artificial inteligence provider, with its capacity to access and search the internet and to give up-to-date and precise responses, it cannot colect any information that is not typed directly inside the application's window. Applications for the office include the OnlyOffice office suite, the Evolution email client and the Okular document reader. For more secure internet browsing, Br OS uses the Libre Wolf web browser, a Firefox fork focused on security and privacy. Read the full release announcement (in Portuguese) for further details. Distribution Release: Br OS 23.10 |
Br OS is a Brazilian Linux distribution based on Kubuntu. The distribution has re-introduced a minimal install option for Br OS 23.10 and adjusted the themes settings screen. "One change that began to be introduced in a past point-release and has now been completed is the change of themes in the quick settings screen, which is now 100% functional with the right to view and everything, with this, unfortunately the Breeze themes were disabled, when clicking on them nothing will happen, however, the Breeze theme can still be used by clicking on the Kubuntu Theme, and can be changed between light and dark in advanced settings. There has been an improvement in the stability of the integration with ChatGPT, we are working on the possibility of integrating other artificial intelligences, preferably free, so that the user can choose which one to use, this update should come out in the near future and is another step towards the implementation of Tricia (our AI)." Additional details can be found in the project's release announcement. Download: Br-OS-23.10-desktop-amd64.iso (3,390MB, MD5, pkglist). |

Distribution Release: Br OS 23.04 |
Anderson Marques has announced the release of Br OS 23.04. Br OS, developed in Brazil, is an Ubuntu-based distribution featuring the KDE Plasma desktop and a set of applications designed for web content creation. This release marks the project's third anniversary. An interesting new feature of the release is an integration of ChatGPT directly in the work area. It can be accessed by an icon located on the right side of the start menu. After clicking on the icon, the user can login with an OpenAI account or create a new account. It is important to stress that ChatGPT does not have any power over the user's computer; it runs isolated inside the application. This was purposely done to prevent ChatGPT from accessing any data on the computer. In this way, the only data ChatGPT will collect are limited to those typed by the user while interacting with the application. Br OS 23.04 ships with Linux kernel 6.2, KDE Plasma 5.27.4 and Qt 5.15.8. Other items on the changelog include various interface improvements and bug fixes. See the release announcement and the changelog (both links in Portuguese) for more information and a screenshot. Download (MD5): br-os-23.04-desktop-amd64.iso (4,452MB, pkglist). |
