The MX Linux team has announced the availability of the initial beta release of MX Linux 25. The project's upcoming major update, now based on Debian 13, is available in both "systemd" and "SysV" variants (for the Xfce and Fluxbox editions) and "systemd" only for the KDE Plasma flavour: "MX Linux 25 beta 1 is now available for testing. MX 25 is built from debian 13 'Trixie' and MX repositories, along with the antiX live system. Systemd and SysVInit editions are provided and supported. For those that want them, the Xfce, Xfce-ahs and Fluxbox releases are available in SysVInit variants. SysVInit ISO images are clearly labeled such in the file name. Reasons for this change from past editions are in this blog post. At this time we intend the betas to update through final. Major desktop versions: Xfce 4.20, Fluxbox 1.3.7, KDE Plasma 6.3.6. Most ISO images come with the latest 6.12.43 kernel from the debian stable repositories. The Advanced Hardware Support 'ahs' variants have 6.15-liquorix kernels." | MX Linux, a desktop-oriented Linux distribution based on Debian's "Stable" branch, is a cooperative venture between the antiX and former MEPIS Linux communities. Using Xfce as the default desktop (with separate KDE Plasma and Fluxbox editions also available), it is a mid-weight operating system designed to combine an elegant and efficient desktop with simple configuration, high stability, solid performance and medium-sized footprint.

Distribution Release: MX Linux 25 |

The MX Linux team has announced that version 25 of its distribution is now available. MX Linux 25 is based on Debian 13. The release announcement shares the key new features: "MX Linux 25 is now available for use. MX 25 is built from Debian 13 'Trixie' and MX repositories. All releases come with systemd. The Xfce, Xfce AHS and Fluxbox releases are also available in SysVInt variants. SysvVInit ISO images are clearly labeled such in the filen ame. Reasons for this change from past editions are in this blog post. Major desktop versions: Xfce 4.20, Fluxbox 1.3.7, KDE Plasma 6.3.6. Most ISO images come with the latest 6.12.48 kernel from the Debian 'Stable' repositories. The Xfce AHS variants have the 6.16 Liquorix kernels. The antiX live system has been modified to work better with systemd as the init system. To those that want to run live systems as a primary system, the SysVInit editions support better the antiX live system. The Qt-based GUI MX Tools have been migrated to Qt 6. Most apps have also received bug fixes and translation updates. Our long-time updater tool, apt-notifier, has been replaced with a new tool, mx-updater." The MX Linux team has announced the availability of the first release candidate for MX Linux 25, the upcoming major release of the project's Debian-based Linux distribution with user-friendly enhancements and the Xfce desktop (with Fluxbox and KDE Plasma variants also provided). Departing from its non-systemd stand in the past, MX Linux 25 now comes with the systemd service manager by default, although SysV variants are still available. "MX Linux 25 RC1 is now available for testing. MX Linux 25 is built from Debian 13 'Trixie' and MX Linux repositories. All releases come with systemd. For those that want them, the Xfce, Xfce-AHS, and Fluxbox releases are also available in SysV variants. SysV ISO images are clearly labeled as such in the file name. The reasons for this change from past versions are in this blog post. With this RC1, we are particularly interested in testing the installer, including traditional ext4 and Btrfs installations. Major changes since beta 1 include: inclusion of systemd-cryptsetup on systemd ISO images (fixes an issue with encrypted /home); work-around for GRUB display issue on older Intel graphics hardware...." Distribution Release: MX Linux 23.6 |

The MX Linux project has announced a new version, MX Linux 23.6, which is based on Debian 12. "MX Linux 23.6 is the sixth refresh of our MX 23 release, consisting of bug fixes, kernel updates and application updates since our original release of MX 23. If you are already running MX 23, there is no need to reinstall. Packages are all available through the regular update channels or by installing the changed applications. Highlights include: Debian 12.10 'Bbookworm' base. Some highlights since our 23.5 release include: Xfce 4.20 core packages (Xfce ISO images and Raspberry Pi respin); MX Package Installer has user interface improvements, particularly dealing with Flatpak setup and privilege elevation prompts; improved privilege prompt management in many MX tools; for Xfce users, improvements to mx-system-sounds login function, waiting for a sound server to start before trying to play the sound; fixes to deal with Xfce desktop changes and setting wallpapers; fixes to 'preserve home' mode in the installer UEFI Manager, a standalone tool for managing UEFI settings...." Distribution Release: MX Linux 23.5 |

The MX Linux team have published an update to their 23.x series which is based on Debian 12 "Bookworm". The new release offers updated kernels and Xfce 4.20 packages. "Highlights niclude: Debian 12.9 Bookworm base. This release includes all updates from the Debian and MX repositories. Some highlights since our 23.4 release include: Xfce 4.20 core packages (Xfce isos and pi respin). MX PackageInstaller has UI improvements and better version display for packages in third party repositories. Screenshots from Debian Screenshots are also available. Extra warnings on live system if persistence has been ask for on boot media that is read-only. Tweaks to default fstab file as set by installer. Additional fallback modes in installer. Many many bug fixes. Many many language updates. Many new applications in our MX Test repository. All kernel updates: The standard Xfce, KDE, and fluxbox isos are all updated to the latest 6.1.123 kernel. AHS now uses the 6.12.8 liqourix kernel, with auto-updates enabled. Distribution Release: MX Linux 23.4 |

The MX Linux team have published an update to the distribution's 23.x series. The new version, MX Linux 23.4, includes several updates to the MX Tools suite and includes updated firmware for added hardware support. "Some highlights since our 23.3 release include: Update Xfce 4.18 core packages (Xfce ISOs and Oi respin). MX PackageInstaller now shows all installed packages in Enabled, test, and backports tabs, not just those available in a configured repo. Installed and repo version numbers are shown in table, not just tooltips. The Flatpak tab has an optional filter to show only Flathub verified Flatpaks. (MX-)live-usb-maker defaults to luks2 encryption for those making encrypted live usb devices. MX-USB-unmounter has UI improvements, plus an option to only show on tray if a removable device is inserted. pipewire-setup-mx updated to make pipewire/wireplumber startup under SysV init more reliable, especially for KDE users. MX Tweak has a KDE option to disable/enable plasma-discover's autostart systray updater notifier. AHS users have updated firmware packages (backported from Debian Sid). Fluxbox ISO now includes job-scheduler, a front end for cron (already included on other ISOs). Conky and panel should be exempt from hiding with Alt+D (show desktop). The developers of MX Linux, a Debian-based desktop distribution with graphical administration tools and a choice of three popular desktops, have announced the release of MX Linux 23.3: "MX Linux 23.3 'Libretto' released. MX Linux 23.3 is the third refresh of our MX 23 release, consisting of bug fixes, kernel, and application updates since our original release of MX 23. If you are already running MX 23, there is no need to reinstall. Packages are all available through the regular update channels or by installing the changed applications. Some highlights include: when using the installer's OEM mode, the user will be able to select a system language before user setup starts so that the setup will be in the chosen language, this is set up by default on the RPI respin release; updated manual and manual now divided into language-specific packages; MX Locale tool includes a function to remove all manual packages except current system default language; zstd compression option added to live-remaster (antiX live system); systemd is usable on live system in rudimentary fashion; many language updates." The MX Linux project, a Debian-based desktop distribution has published a new update to the distribution's 23.x series. MX Linux 23.2 is based on Debian 12 "Bookworm" and includes a number of fixes and improvements. "Some highlights include: installer updates addressing fstab generation, GUI simplification and fixes for users of 'toram' live feature; New 'MX Locale' tool for management of system locale information, system default language; new 'papirus-folder-colors' tool which is a fun little tool for making papirus-family themes with different folder colours; AHS Xfce release features the 6.6 Liquorix kernel, updated firmware and MESA libraries; an opt-in option for auto-updates is in MX-PackageInstaller, Popular Apps, Kernels; the KDE Plasma ISO image replaces webcamoid with kamoso; the Xfce and Fluxbox ISO images replace webamoid with guvcview; fixes to the mx-comfort-themes for some apps that had white text on white backgrounds and black text on black backgrounds; 'build-essential' packages now included on the ISO image for those users that might need to compile some drivers and not be able to get online; Pipewire 1.0." Linux Netwosix was a light, portable and highly configurable distribution created for system administrators.
