I have read the very positive comments by testers here, and decided to install BR OS on an i5 Lenova think centre 8 g ram intel graphics, Sadly no matter what I tried, the installer would not allow any form of partitioning. Auto or manual.
I then downloaded the ISO again tried a different USB and tried to instal on my PC, this runs a i3 9100f cpu with 16 g Kingston ram and an AMD RX550 graphics card, however again the installer crashed and issued an apology pop up and a bug report.
So I cannot recommend Br OS as I simply could not install it to try, I don't give reports on live sessions as I have found over the years, the live session can vary from the final hard drive install, especially on Debian based systems. Perhaps in this case the installer was being asked to do too much. If the team had stayed with the simple Kubuntu installer, the result may have been a more reliable experience.
My main daily driver is Debian bookworm KDE for obvious reasons, however I do like to try any distro that other have found so positive, sadly Br OS will not be a positive experience for my computers.
An incredible system made for demanding people, at least that was the impression I had of Br OS, a well-crafted operating system, designed for convenience.
After I installed it, I didn't even need to make any visual changes, I didn't even change the wallpaper, as the system came ready to use.
I've been changing distributions frequently for years, always jumping from one distribution to another, and I've always needed to make visual changes to the operating systems I installed on my computer. This, in fact, was the first time that I didn't feel any need to change anything in the system.
Unbelievably great OS. Based on Kubuntu, it is better than ubuntu or mint. Linux Mint could not recognize my TPlink 5G wifi adapter whereas Br Os immediately recognized it. My internet speed was better on windows as compared to Ubuntu. Now I am getting same speed on Br OS . Br OS means Brazilian OS but I would call it Breeze OS as the installation went like a breeze.
There was no need to use command line console. The GUI is fresh and modern as compared to Ubuntu which is dull and outdated.
Thanks to the developers for this wonderful OS
Br OS worked on an HP Z210 CTM. 3.1 ghz 8GB memory
Br OS 23.10 fits on a 4.7 GB DVD
Br-OS-23.10-desktop-amd64.iso 3.6 GB
Booting the DVD gave me the option of try or install Br OS, Br OS safe graphics, Boot from next volume, UEFI Firmware Settings.
Booting into a live session allowed me to change locale date power settings add firewall log out and re-log in from x11 to Wayland.
The DVD has two browsers...Firefox and Librewolf...plus a Canadian based VPN, that's free...within limited use.
The Live DVD doesn't have Muon on it. It has Discover instead.
No games are on the live DVD.
I had no problem Running Br OS during a live session.
After installing Br OS I added Muon, sweeper, and KDE Games.
I change the locale using sudo nano /etc/default/locale from a terminal...then logged out and re-logged back in...during the live session.
Live session boots into a panel called McMojove Panel.
It can be changed to a default , empty or Kubuntu default panel.
If for some reason I lost the McMojove panel, adding a panel logging out and re-loggin in...got the panel back.
Everything looks good and sounds good under KDE...and I added muon after install.
The front Mic is always pegged out after booting into Br OS.
I was very fond of the previous version of Br OS which appeared to be mostly reliable. There was some weird bug if you installed Grub Customizer in which a false authentication window always opened before you reached the actual functional authentication window for that software. This was the only system that I have where that bug took place.
I decided to try the most recent verion of Br OS and now there appear to be authentication problems all over the place. When I tried to update the new system the OS repeatedly asked for an installation CD. There was no such thing of course. After that I lost the Br OS custom gui and the system reverted to the basic Kubuntu desktop.
That was it for me. I replaced the new OS with the most recnt version of Kubuntu, which I think is terrific.Later I may go back to the older version of Br OS somewhere else in the future which is worth a look if you've never demoed it.
An Incredible Operating System, I really love this Distro!
It manages to be light, easy to use and incredibly beautiful, it's not an easy combination to find in an operating system, however, it is found in Br OS.
Another very interesting thing is how easy it is to talk to the CEO, he is available in Distro's Telegram group.
I noticed that it is a Brazilian Distro, however, the system is available in several languages, including English, which greatly facilitates its use by people from all over the world.
It is worth mentioning that this distro has done a wonderful job in defending freedom of expression around the world, natively bringing tools to bypass the censorship mechanisms of authoritarian countries.
I love this distro. I have tried many in the past 6 months leaving windows. Most have a issue with a Elano wireless keyboard that doesn't exist. This distro doesn't have that issue like the others. It has acted up briefly, but control is back to normal right away. Besides that, it's KDE Plasma with Debian. And it works flawlessly! Has a an easy to use app store (Discover). Being new to Linux I would highly recommend this Distro!
I have installed Gimp, Krita, and VLC very easily. Coming from another Brazilian distro with pamac that had a lot of issues, I can say I prefer this one. If you like a distro based off Kubuntu and installs easy try this one by all means!
As a recent convert to KDE, I was looking for a stable, Ubuntu-based distro with a relatively recent version of Plasma. Strangely, Feren OS, Kubuntu and KDE Neon all gave me issues on the first day. But this distro, despite being based on Kubuntu, has been working flawlessly for over 2.5 weeks now.
In addition to being so reliable, it comes with a great set of applications. You get qBitTorrent instead of KTorrent; Kdenlive, Krita and GIMP are pre-installed, which are programs that I consider essential even for non-creators. Most importantly, it comes with Flatpak pre-installed, and immediately accessible through Discover. Seeing how Ubuntu is moving away from Flatpak, Br OS might be a better choice for many people for an out-of-the-box experience. Also, it comes with OnlyOffice instead of LibreOffice, if that's your thing. I personally prefer LibreOffice, but OnlyOffice is alright too.
On top of all that, the desktop is customized and themed gorgeously out of the box (it's using Plank, but it's easy to turn it off if you're not into it), and the wallpapers are probably the best I've seen on any distro ever. Honestly, this is a distro I wouldn't be embarrassed to show to the Windows users for the showcase of Linux.
The only problem I have with it is a pretty janky-looking logo, or almost a lack of it. It's just "Br" with some Brazilian symbolic in the background. They should really work on their branding. Commission an actual symbol for a logo and overwrite all the mentions of Kubuntu, such as those in neofetch and during the loading screen.
The reason my review mostly touches on the superficial aspects of the distro is precisely because it's working so flawlessly and out of the box. I really don't have much to say about the under-the-hood stuff when I don't even have to engage with it due to everything being functional.
