I don't know how they do it, but SlimbookOS is significantly faster and more responsive than standard Ubuntu. It feels lighter, more customizable, and comes packed with genuinely useful utilities that make daily work much smoother. The hardware integration is just on another level.
Although I've temporarily gone back to Ubuntu 26.04 because it just came out, I already miss the snappiness. Honestly, the stock version feels slower and clunkier to use in comparison. I'm eagerly waiting for the team to release the new SlimbookOS version based on this base so I can switch back immediately. If you're reading this, please don't delay the launch!
As others have said, this is a better Ubuntu than Ubuntu :-)
Can choose Gnome or KDE Plasma to install, and they've got a bunch of helpful custom and 3rd party apps that really make it just a nice, smooth environment to use. Even got facial recognition login working :-)
I'm currently running it on 3 different computers. An old Dell Latitude (gnome edition), my gaming desktop (plasma) and my Huawei Matebook X Pro laptop (plasma). Works perfectly on all 3.
If you like the Ubuntu ecosystem, but would prefer a more polished distro, I advise you to try Slimbook OS. I don't think you'll regret it.
Hello everyone out there. I just want to take a minute and describe how grateful I am for this Distro.
I've scoured the Linux world trying out various distros. I've been stuck on Fedora for a while. However, since I discovered this gem, I feel I've found the perfect distro for me.
I have had problems with Fedora and their latest bug. The boot efi partition. Not only that, my bios is stuck showing two different Fedora entries. Slimbook recognized this issue upon installation and fixed it.
Even more I always have problems with other distros compatibility with my mouse cursor. I felt Fedora was the only distro without this issue. Again, Slimbook is just in a league by itself. Slimbook resolved this issue and I no longer see the error on boot. One less headache!
If you want a top of the line distro without the bugs, look no further! Slimbook OS works great on my 5th gen laptop. Have a blessed day!
If you want an Ubuntu that's better than Ubuntu, this is your distro.
It tries to keep up with updates, but it's more intuitive and focused on ease of use. It lets you choose whether you want to install the KDE or Gnome version.
The name suggests it only works on Slimbook laptops, but that's not the case. It works on older and newer machines. I like it better than PopOs because it uses grub and other packages I've been used to for years.
Pro: Like Ubuntu, but better than Ubuntu
Cons: No arch, just deb
