NetBSD server left running for nearly a decade |
 |
Operating systems in the BSD and Linux families are often regarded as being stable, reliable platforms. One such example of this stability comes from a blog post which discusses a NetBSD server which was left to run unattended for nearly a decade. "What surprised me the most was its uptime. Sadly, I didn't take note, but the last restart had been in 2012 after the Emilia Romagna earthquake. They had a backup generator, so the server always had an efficient uninterrupted power supply. Nine years of uptime for a server set up in a few hours, on consumer-grade hardware, and left largely unattended for years." It's an impressive feat, both for the hardware and the operating system, and a testiment of the skill of the NetBSD team.
