2018-06-16 NEWDistribution Release: deepin 15.6
deepin is a Debian-based Linux distribution which strives to provide an attractive and user-friendly experience via the Deepin Desktop Environment (DDE). The project's latest release, deepin 15.6, features a new welcome window and a quick settings navigation bar. There is also a new launcher window, designed to use less screen space along with a new user's manual. "The newly added welcome program demonstrates and guides deepin personalization. Launcher in small window mode better fits the habits of dual system users and new users, making the transition easier. The sequence of applications in the 'All Programs' list is the same as that of the fulls-creen mode, with the newly installed applications listed at the bottom, supporting dragging to reorder the list." 2018-06-12 NEWDistribution Release: Untangle NG Firewall 14.0
Untangle NG Firewall is a Debian-based network gateway with pluggable modules for network applications like spam blocking, web filtering, anti-virus, anti-spyware, intrusion prevention, VPN, SSL VPN, firewall, and more. The project's latest release, version 14.0, offers more control over VPN connections and directing traffic based on the port and protocol being used. "Key updates provide more control, more visibility and lower costs for SD-WAN. Tunnel VPN connections can bind to specific WANs, allowing configuration of multiple tunnels for multi-WAN sites and ensuring each tunnel is using the desired physical WAN connection. Administrators can direct traffic to the most desirable WAN connection based on criteria like ports and protocols. Tunnels can be set up without NAT so that the cloud firewall has full visibility into the network. This gives the ability to centralize policies across the whole network from the cloud firewall." Additional information can be found in the distribution's release announcement. Download (MD5): untangle_1400_x64.iso (677MB, pkglist). Also available from OSDisc.

2018-06-04 NEWDevelopment Release: Linux Mint 19 Beta
The Linux Mint team has announced the release of the project's first beta for version 19 of their popular desktop distribution. The new development snapshot is based on Ubuntu 18.04 and will receive five years of support. This beta introduces several new features, including several that involve the Timeshift system backup utility. The project's overview of new features states: "In Linux Mint 19, the star of the show is Timeshift. Although it was introduced in Linux Mint 18.3 and backported to all Linux Mint releases, it is now at the center of Linux Mint's update strategy and communication. Thanks to Timeshift you can go back in time and restore your computer to the last functional system snapshot. If anything breaks, you can go back to the previous snapshot and it's as if the problem never happened. This greatly simplifies the maintenance of your computer, since you no longer need to worry about potential regressions. In the eventuality of a critical regression, you can restore a snapshot (thus canceling the effects of the regression) and you still have the ability to apply updates selectively." The beta is available in three editions: Cinnamon, MATE and Xfce. Download (pkglist): linuxmint-19-cinnamon-64bit-beta.iso (1,783MB, SHA256, signature, torrent, release announcement, release notes), linuxmint-19-mate-64bit-beta.iso (1,832MB, SHA256, signature, torrent, release announcement, release notes), linuxmint-19-xfce-64bit-beta.iso (1,738MB, SHA256, signature, torrent, release announcement, release notes).

2018-06-03 NEWDistribution Release: 4MLinux 25.0
4MLinux is a small, 32-bit Linux distribution focusing on four capabilities: maintenance (as a system rescue live CD), multimedia (for playing video DVDs and other multimedia files), miniserver (using the inetd daemon), and mystery (providing several small Linux games). The project's latest release, 4MLinux 25.0, smooths out handling CA certificates, offers an option to disable the login screen and uses mpv as the default media player. The release announcement reads: "As always, a new major release comes with some new features: better handling of CA certificates (no need to accept them manually), full support for Zstandard data compression algorithm (4MLinux Backup Scripts), login screen can now be disabled (it's a response to user requests), GIMP 2.10 with full support for scanners and digital cameras, Python3 with Meson and Ninja (this is now, de facto, the main build system in GNOME/GTK+ ecosystem). The default media player in 4MLinux is now mpv (with GNOME MPV). Other players (MPlayer, SMPlayer, Xine and VLC) are available as downloadable extensions. Good news for modern computers: all these applications are now able to make use of hardware video acceleration (via VA-API and VDPAU). Good news for old computers: MPlayer, Xine and VLC can play videos without X Window System (use Midnight Commander to select files to play)." Download (MD5) (pkglist): 4MLinux-25.0-32bit.iso (1,162MB), 4MServer-25.0-64bit.iso (1,259MB). Also available from OSDisc.
