Erik Dubois has announced the release of ArcoLinux 20.11.9, a new stable version of the project's Arch-based distribution with Xfce as the default desktop. As always, the distribution is available in a vast range of other desktop environments through its community-built ArcoLinuxB editions. This version also delivers a new dwm variant: "dwm might be one of the most intriguing desktops we have in our collection. dwm stands for dynamic window manager and it comes from suckless.org. Let me copy/paste the intro of their website: 'dwm is a dynamic window manager for X. It manages windows in tiled, monocle and floating layouts. All of the layouts can be applied dynamically, optimising the environment for the application in use and the task performed. In tiled layout windows are managed in a master and stacking area. The master area contains the window which currently needs most attention, whereas the stacking area contains all other windows. In monocle layout all windows are maximised to the screen size.'" See the full release announcement for further details. Download (pkglist): arcolinux-v20.11.9-x86_64.iso (2,201MB, MD5). As usual, ArcoLinuxD (a minimal distribution with scripts that enable power users to install any desktop and application) and ArcoLinuxB (a set of community editions with many popular desktops and window managers) are also available. |

Erik Dubois has announced the release of ArcoLinux 19.12.15, a new stable version of the project's Arch-based distribution featuring Xfce as the default desktop. This release brings the latest Calamares installer with several new modules: "Calamares 3.2.16 - beginning of November 2019 Calamares released a new version, we are using this version on our 19.12 release. We have added the possibility to install the NVIDIA driver to the ISO image. If you select the box on the NVIDIA page with an internet connection it will install nvidia, nvidia-settings, nvidia-utils. There is currently no support for the 390x driver. This needs to be installed manually. We had a separate script to build LTS ISO images - this resulted in 64 ISO images. Because of the new module we went from 64 to 35 ISO images. Every ISO image can potentially install an LTS kernel. You will need internet to get it installed. If there is no internet, the LTS kernel will not be installed and installation will finish with the standard Linux kernel." Read the rest of the release announcement for more information and screenshots. Download (pkglist): arcolinux-v19.12.15.iso (1,970MB, MD5). Additionally, ArcoLinuxD (a minimal distribution with scripts that enable power users to install any desktop and application) and ArcoLinuxB (a set of community editions with many popular desktops and window managers) are also available. |

ArcoLinux is an Arch-based distribution which is available in three main branches, which provide a range of complete solutions, minimal editions designed to be customized by the user, and community flavours. The ArcoLinux project has published a new update, version 19.05.2, that adds some short-cuts and trims out features that were causing problems. "Redshift was included in the last ISO image. During testing Redshift gave no issues. After the launch some of our users reported it was not working. Since reports were partially negative, we have decided not to include it on the ISO image. You can install in later, if you want to have it. Software that gives our users frustrations is out as a rule of thumb. Super + q - from the development of Qtile we have learned to use the keyboard shortcut super + q to close a window. We were so used to this shortcut that we have implemented it also in Xfce, Openbox, i3, Awesome, bspwm, Qtile and xmonad." Further details and screenshots can be found in the release announcement. Download (pkglist): arcolinux-v19.05.2.iso (Xfce, 2,051MB, MD5), arcolinuxd-v19.05.2.iso (no desktop, 1,053MB, MD5). |

Erik Dubois has announced the release of ArcoLinux 19.01.4, a new version of the project's Arch-based, desktop-oriented distribution. Some of the features include a new version of the Calamares installer, additional icons and themes, and some bug fixes: "ArcoLinux -D -B 19.1. Upgrading Calamares gives us a chance to get an improved graphical installer. It may overcome issues people were having in the past. All ArcoLinux Calamares configurations have been looked at and improved. When we upgraded our systems on 2019-01-01 it resulted in a VirtualBox with a look that was too bright. Hence we could not read it. We looked for a solution and found one in kvantum-qt5 and kvantum-theme-arc. Use the script in your ./bin/stay-rolling/18.12-to19.1. It will install the missing packages if you are not doing a clean install with the 19.1 ISO image. Numix icons, theme and plank are now maintained by Erik Dubois on the AUR. They have been part of ArcoLinux since the beginning. Remember to get rid of the obstructing file. We have added this Stargate-themed conky to the collection." As usual, various community editions featuring popular desktop environments are also available. |

ArcoLinux (formerly known as ArchMerge), is an Arch-based project developing several ready-to-use distributions that feature a number of popular desktop environments. ArcoLinux 6.9.1 was pre-announced earlier this week, but the main Xfce edition was only made available yesterday. From the release announcement: "We decided to trim down our ISO images and remove elements we either don't use or which might be considered a security liability. You can install them if you want them after the installation of the ISO image. Our goal is to stay around 2 gigabytes for the ArcoLinux ISO image. Improvements: new logo has been included in the logos of the conkies; font display has been improved and resized to 11; added VMware configuration file to include 1920x1080 resolution; Neofetch has been upgraded from v4 to v5, we follow the official configuration and change it to our own ArcoLinux configuration; 000- script to use all cores now also includes 6 cores; new alias vbm to mount the Public folder when on VirtualBox; old alias 'update' is now 'sudo pacman -Syyu'...." Here are the links to download ArcoLinux (live DVD with Xfce, Openbox and i3) and ArcoLinuxD (the project's minimalist, but customisable variant): arcolinux-v6.9.1-2018.07.11.iso (1,986MB, pkglist), arcolinuxd-v6.9.1-2018.07.11.iso (933MB). Community editions with many desktop environments are also available. |
