Mahdi Fattahi has announced the release of AriOS 4.0, an Ubuntu-based Linux distribution with a highly customised and enhanced GNOME Shell: "I'm happy to announce that AriOS 4.0 final has been released. Built upon the solid base of Ubuntu 12.04 LTS, AriOS comes with GNOME Shell as the default desktop, carefully modified and enhanced using a number of extensions to offer a better and more familiar user experience. AriOS is not a yet-another Ubuntu remaster. It comes with a slew of features, some of them unique. A beautiful, productivity-oriented desktop session using Avant Window Navigator + Compiz/Metacity; a script to auto-detect NVIDIA Optimus chips and install Bumblebee software; a GUI to turn on/off auto-mounting of partitions at boot; a handpicked selection of multimedia, graphics and office software." Mahdi Fattahi has announced the availability of the beta release of AriOS 4.0, an Ubuntu-based distribution featuring a heavily modified GNOME 3 desktop and many additional software applications: "I'm very happy to announce AriOS 4.0 beta, based on the upcoming long-term support (LTS) version of Ubuntu. Although both Ubuntu 12.04 and AriOS are in beta, I consider this release a very stable and robust system, as Canonical has done a great job on making 'Precise' stable and bug-free. AriOS comes with the latest updates from the 'Precise' development branch up to March 26, 2012. In this release we offer a great array of the latest and greatest free desktop environments. Like before, AriOS comes with its own proven desktop layout, based on GNOME 3 and the awesome Avant Window Navigator. Also available are the latest versions of Unity, GNOME Shell, Unity 2D and GNOME classic." Read the remainder of the release announcement information about included applications and a screenshot. Mahdi Fattahi has announced the release of AriOS 3.0, an Ubuntu-based distribution with a unique look & feel and loads of extra software: "I'm very happy to announce the release of AriOS 3.0 final, a complete operating system based on Ubuntu 11.04. In this version the focus has been on more polish and providing a better set of default programs. Noteworthy points and changes in this version: Unity has been removed as I think it still lacks a lot of features and customization options; downgraded Compiz to 0.8.6 to avoid the problems reported with the new version shipped in Ubuntu 11.04; Sessions - you can choose between three sessions at login: AriOS, AriOS-2D and GNOME Classic; Alt+F2 shortcut has been assigned to Synapse, the smart, semantic launcher." Read the release announcement for a full list of changes and known issues. Download: AriOS-3.0-INTL.iso (1,419MB, MD5).
