Robert Wiley has announced the release of Bodhi Linux 7.0.0, a major new update of the project's Ubuntu-based distribution featuring the Moksha desktop (a fork of Enlightenment). This version introduces a special "s76" variant with a cutting-edge Linux kernel (version 6.4.6): "The Bodhi team is thrilled to announce the long-awaited release of Bodhi Linux 7.0. Built on the Ubuntu 22.04 LTS base, Bodhi 7.0 is a momentous step forward. With a strong commitment to improving user experience, performance and adhering to its core values of minimalism and customization, this release marks a significant milestone in the evolution of Bodhi Linux. Bodhi Linux 7.0 comes with an array of improvements and updates. Most notable are: introduction of a new 's76' release which features a more advanced Linux kernel for those seeking cutting-edge performance; Linux kernel updates are now enabled by default; EFL and Terminology are updated to the version in e-git; Moksha no longer relies on deprecated libraries; the login screen boasts an upgraded slick greeter with a password reveal feature, complemented by a new Plymouth theme." Bodhi Linux is an Ubuntu-based distribution which combined Ubuntu's long-term support (LTS) release with the Moksha desktop, which is a fork of the Enlightenment user interface. "Today the Bodhi Team is pleased to announce the release of Bodhi Linux 6.0. Bodhi 6.0 is built on the Ubuntu 20.04.2 LTS (Focal Fossa) base. Our Arc-Green theme underwent a major revamp now featuring an animated background, updated splash screen, and numerous tweaks. The BL6 login screen now features the elegant slick greeter. Naturally, there also is a new Plymouth theme. The Moksha desktop environment has had numerous improvements and a few new features added. In addition to all this, the Bodhi Team has tried to improve support for non-English languages. As a result, we now install by default the gnome language tool. None of this would have been possible without the support of the Bodhi community and the volunteer work of our small group of translators." Bodhi Linux is a lightweight, Ubuntu-based distribution featuring the Moksha desktop environment. The new version, 5.1.0, is the first release under the project's new management. "Today I am pleased to announce the release of Bodhi Linux 5.1.0. This is my first official release and is somewhat delayed from our original plans. Hopefully, this delay is worth it to our users. Much thanks to Stefan 'the waiter' Uram for his work on both the code and the themes and icons - Bodhi would not be the same without his creative input. In addition, it features several breaks with Bodhi tradition. In addition to replacing epad with Leafpad, Midori with Epiphany and ditching eepDater, we now offer two 64-bit ISO images and a revamped AppPack ISO image. If you are unsure which version is best for you, please see this wiki page explaining the differences between them." See the full release announcement for more information and a video trailer. Jeff Hoogland has announced the release of Bodhi Linux 5.0.0. Bodhi Linux is a lightweight Ubuntu-based distribution featuring Moksha, an Enlightenment 17-based desktop environment. The project takes a decidedly minimalist approach by offering modularity, high levels of customisation, and choice of themes. "Today I am very pleased to share the hard work of the Bodhi Team which has resulted in our fifth major release. It has been quite the journey since our first stable release a little over seven years ago and I am happy with the progress this projected has made in that time. For those looking for a lengthy change log between the 4.5.0 release and 5.0.0, you will not find one. We have been happy with what the Moksha desktop has provided for some time now. This new major release simply serves to bring a modern look and updated Ubuntu core (18.04) to the lightning fast desktop you have come to expect from Bodhi Linux." Information on the new version can be found in the project's release announcement. The distribution is available in three editions: Standard, Legacy (for older, 32-bit computers), and AppPack which includes more software on the installation media. Jeff Hoogland has announced the availability of the release candidate for Bodhi Linux 5.0.0, an upcoming major new version of the Ubuntu-based distribution that features the Enlightenment-based Moksha desktop environment: "Today I am very pleased to share the hard work of the Bodhi team with our latest 5.0.0 pre-release disc which we are tagging as a 'release candidate'. These disc images have no major issues that our team has been made aware of and will likely be fairly close to the images we will tag as a stable release later this quarter. Past providing our rock solid Moksha desktop on an Ubuntu 18.04 base, these disc images are the first to feature our fresh new look which is a modified version of the popular 'Arc Dark' theme colorized in Bodhi green. Also included are a fresh default wallpaper, login screen and splash scenes as your system starts up. You should note that we still do not have an 'AppPack' release for our 5.0.0 series yet. This will be included with our second release candidate (if needed) as well as the final stable release." Read the rest of the release announcement for more information and screenshots. Interested testers can download the live DVD images from SourceForge: bodhi-5.0.0-64-rc.iso (750MB, SHA256, pkglist), bodhi-5.0.0-legacy-rc.iso (763MB, SHA256). |

Jeff Hoogland has announced an early development snapshot of Bodhi Linux 5.0.0. The new alpha release is based on Ubuntu 18.04 LTS and runs the Moksha desktop environment, which is a fork of Enlightenment. "Some highlights about these 5.0.0 ISO images: Ubuntu 18.04 base; Moksha 0.3.0 testing release; 32-bit and non-PAE support with 4.9 kernel in Legacy ISO image. Please note the focus of these ISO images was simply getting Moksha up and running on the Ubuntu 18.04. I have yet to clean out the ISO images of excess clutter or ensure that everything we expect to deliver a full Bodhi experience is present. We hope these discs will help serve as a testing ground for some of the changes we have been back porting for Moksha before we tag a 0.3.0 release of the desktop. Because we are a project driven 100% by volunteers, there are no strict time lines for how the release cycle for 5.0.0 will fully pan out. Keep your eye on this page for updates as we get time to work on things. Also keep in mind that any future releases towards 5.0.0 you will be able to upgrade to via your package manager so installing early is fine so long as you don’t mind the occasional issue here and there." Additional information and a screen shot can be found in the project's release announcement. Download (MD5) (pkglist): bodhi-5.0.0-64-alpha.iso (719MB), bodhi-5.0.0-legacy-alpha.iso (766MB). |

The new version of Bodhi Linux features several package updates, including version 4.13 of the Linux kernel. The project's release announcement states: "Today I am pleased to announce the release of Bodhi Linux 4.4.0. Bodhi ships with the Moksha desktop (a fork of Enlightenment) and is available in three flavours: Standard, AppPack (offering more applications) and Legacy (for older computers). The project's release announcement reads: "Today I am pleased to announce the release of Bodhi Linux 4.3.0. This is a normal update release and it comes three months after the release of Bodhi 4.2.0. Existing Bodhi 4.x.y users do not need to reinstall as the primary goal of this update release is to simply keep the current ISO image up to date. Jeff Hoogland has announced the release of Bodhi Linux 4.2.0. Bodhi Linux is an Ubuntu-based distribution featuring a fork of the Enlightenment desktop called Moksha. The new version is a minor update to Bodhi Linux and existing users of 4.1.0 will not need to upgrade via new installation media. One of the important changes in 4.2.0 is the dropping of the 32-bit PAE-enabled installation media. Older, 32-bit computers are still supported through Bodhi's Legacy edition: "This is the first release in which we are dropping our 32-bit PAE discs. I would like to clarify that we are still supporting 32-bit computers, but if you need to install the 32-bit version of Bodhi Linux the only version we are preparing is our Legacy ISO image. The Legacy image will work on PAE and non-PAE 32-bit hardware alike. If your computer needs a PAE kernel to utilize all of its memory it is likely better for you to be using a 64-bit operating system anyways. If you do feel the need to use a PAE kernel on a 32-bit operating system with Bodhi though, you can always install the Legacy release and then change kernels afterwards. The release announcement has further details. Jeff Hoogland has announced the availability of a new stable version of Bodhi Linux. The new version, Bodhi Linux 4.1.0, is an update to the project's 4.x.x series and is mostly a bug-fix release. "Today I am happy to announce the first scheduled update release of the Bodhi Linux 4 branch - Bodhi Linux 4.1.0. This release serves to package up the fixes for a few bugs that slipped through the cracks in the 4.0.0 release, as well as provided updated package sets for the install ISO images. Most notably these ISO images come with EFL 1.18.4, Linux Kernel 4.8, and a new Moksha Theme based on the 'Arc Dark' theme. Existing Bodhi 4.0.0 users already have the bug fixes incorporated into these ISO images, but they will need to manually install the newer kernel and theme if they wish to utilize them." Further details can be found in the project's release announcement. The Bodhi release is available in both 32-bit and 64-bit flavours, and it provides two specialist editions - "AppPack" with a large number of pre-installed applications and "Legacy" for older computers. Bodhi Linux 4.0.0 has been released. Bodhi is an Ubuntu-based distribution featuring a custom-built variant of the Enlightenment desktop named "Moksha", with some usability tweaks and other enhancements. This release is based on Ubuntu 16.04 which is supported until April 2021. From the release announcement: "Hot on the heels of the Moksha 0.2.1 desktop release, I am happy to announce the stable release of Bodhi 4.0.0. The highlights of this release are: Ubuntu 16.04.1 core; Moksha 0.2.1 desktop; Linux 4.4 kernel; EFL 1.18.1; new and updated Moksha modules. Ultimately, our end users should be pleased to see the same stable operating system they have grown accustomed to in the past years, with newer application versions the updated Ubuntu LTS brings with it. I would like to take this time to remind users that we do not support a direct upgrade path from 3.2.1 to 4.0.0." Jeff Hoogland has release a new development build of the upcoming Bodhi Linux 4.0.0, an Ubuntu-based distribution featuring a custom-built variant of the Enlightenment desktop named "Moksha": "We are finally nearing the end of the 4.0.0 release cycle. If all goes as planned I will publish a final set of ISO images by the end of the month, flagged as stable. These ISO images come with only one known issue and that is the file selector in the theme tool currently does not display selectable files. A workaround is to click the 'advanced' button to assign theme components. This set of ISO images includes not only 32-bit and 64-bit images that have been stripped down to under 700 MB, but also a 32-bit legacy/non-PAE release to support older hardware. Other thing to note in this release is that the default profile has had a number of improvements including: main menu facelift; improved screenshot module; clipboard manager iteration; better GTK+ and Qt application integration...." Jeff Hoogland has announced the availability of the second alpha build of Bodhi Linux 4.0.0, an upcoming major release of the desktop-oriented distribution (now based on Ubuntu 16.04 LTS) featuring a custom-built variant of the Enlightenment desktop which the developers call "Moksha": "After fighting through some issues with our Bodhi Builder Tool with the Ubuntu 16.04 base we have a second batch of alpha images for our 16.04-based Bodhi 4.0.0 release. The feedback from our first alpha release has the Moksha desktop on the 16.04 base is stable as ever, so the only reason this remains with a pre-release tag is due to some rough edges in terms of polish. There are some minor issues with the default theme under our new 16.04 base and I am still looking to make time to compile a non-PAE kernel image and create a separate disc image for that. I am not going to publish an official target release date, because this is mostly a 'ready when it is ready type project, but people who don't mind a small visual oddity here or there I encourage to install this release." Jeff Hoogland has announced the availability of the initial alpha build of Bodhi Linux 4.0.0, an upcoming major release of the Ubuntu-based distribution featuring a modified variant of the Enlightenment desktop called Moksha. This alpha build is available for 64-bit computers only: "Not only is our first 4.0.0 alpha release here, but it is here relatively on schedule. If all goes according to plan we will have something stamped as stable before September hits. I would just like to be clear that this is far from a polished or finished product. This release has the following known issues: no bootsplash; the installer brings up a password prompt, just click OK to continue; some extra menu entries are present, feel free to manually remove them; many others I have yet to find. This release is also only coming in 64-bit flavoring. The final Bodhi 4.0.0 release will include 32-bit and non-PAE releases still. Hopefully, with the beta release early next month I will have these other variations put together." Read the release announcement for further information. Existing Bodhi 3 users do not need to re-install to obtain this latest release - they simply need to perform all of their current system updates. In addition to shipping with the latest software in the repositories this release also includes a number of small improvements. Most notably: Moksha 0.2.0 is here by default. Linux Kernel 4.2 for improved hardware support. Multi-Language support for the installer again. Improved UEFI support. Jeff Hoogland has announced the release of Bodhi Linux 3.1.1, an updated build of the Ubuntu-based distribution featuring a customised Enlightenment desktop called "Moksha": "Today the Bodhi team and I are releasing an unscheduled bug fix release in version number 3.1.1. The 3.1.0 release we released back in August had an issue where users were not always prompted automatically for wireless passwords when connecting to encrypted networks. This lead to enough confusion and user frustration that we feel it warrants an updated install image now as opposed to waiting for our scheduled 3.2.0 release early 2016. In addition to the wireless bug fix, this release includes all package updates that have been released since August as well as a web application launcher of the Bodhi AppCenter. From the release announcement: "Today I would like to announce something new we will be maintaining at the Bodhi project - AppPack releases. Unlike the normal Bodhi Linux releases which come with a minimal amount of software pre-installed, AppPack releases will include a variety of software pre-installed for folks who want minimal setup work after installing their operating system. The software included by default in the 3.1.0 AppPack ISO images includes: Chromium web browser, LibreOffice 5, VLC media player, OpenShot video editor, Pinta graphics tool, Evince document viewer, ePhoto image viewer, Qalculate calculator, Geany text editor, Exterminator task manager, Terminology terminal emulator, PCManFM file manager... Jeff Hoogland has announced the launch of Bodhi Linux 3.1.0. The new release of Bodhi Linux is significant because it is the first release to feature the Moksha Desktop. "This release is a bigger deal for the Bodhi team than our previous update releases have been in the past. The reason for this is because this release is the first to use the Moksha Desktop which we have forked from E17. Because it is built on the rock solid foundation that E17 provides, even this first release of the Moksha Desktop is stable and is something I feel comfortable using in a production environment. Existing Bodhi Linux 3.0.0 users will not be automatically moved to Moksha via system updates. Jeff Hoogland has announced the availability of the initial development build of Bodhi Linux 3.1.0, a desktop distribution featuring the Enlightenment window manager, still based on Ubuntu 14.04: "Bodhi 3.1.0 pre-release image. Getting back to having releases within their targeted release dates. Because this is the first release to use an early Moksha build I am putting out this pre-release disc for folks to help me catch (and fix) rough edges before we call this an official release. Please give it a spin, live or installed, and let us know what you think either in a comment here or on our user forums. Things to note with this pre-release disc. Moksha segfaults the first time you access the menu as a new user. Pressing F1 brings you back to the desktop and then things are perfectly fine. There is some sort of menu cache generation issue that still needs to be figured out. I consider this a medium priority bug that would be nice to resolve before we release, but really it is cosmetic so I won't be holding the release for it. The quick start guide hasn't been touched yet." Here is the brief release announcement with a screenshot. Download: 3.1.0-32-prerelease.iso (534MB, MD5, pkglist). |

Jeff Hoogland has announced the availability of a new development release of Bodhi Linux 3.0.0. The new test release carries UEFI support and is distributed via smaller ISO images thanks to a new compression format. "These discs are smaller than the RC2 discs by a sizable amount due to the implementation of XZ compression. The 64-bit disc is also the first official Bodhi Linux release to have UEFI support built in by default. I had many Chromebook users note the absence of our Chromebook image with the RC2 release and I am happy to announce its return with this third release candidate...The website also contains a brand new wiki that the community is in the process of populating in preparation of our 3.0.0 release. Other updated parts of the website include this brand new blog section as well as an update donations page. If these discs prove to be as solid as I think they are we will have our stable release for Bodhi Linux 3.0.0 on February 20th, 2015." From the release announcement: "After much hard work and lots of learning, I am proud to announce the release of our 3.0 Legacy RC2 version. Breaking from tradition, our other versions will no longer be released at the same time due to our recent change in head devs and because the others are being built on E19. I have stripped E19 and revived the E17 desktop and engage for this release, bringing extra speed and consistency back to legacy machines. This is my first official version of Bodhi, so expect a few small mistakes. While I have changed the look of Bodhi quite a bit, I have worked hard to maintain the same feel, stability, speed, and functionality that our users have come to love over the years, only chaging things when I thought it improved usability. Hopefully most of my changes will go unnoticed in normal use." Download the live CD image from SourceForge: bodhi-3.0.0-legacy-rc2.iso (651MB, MD5, pkglist). |

Jeff Hoogland has announced the availability of the first release candidate for Bodhi Linux 3.0.0, an Ubuntu-based distribution featuring the Enlightenment 19 window manager: "At Bodhi we work firmly on an 'it's ready when it's ready' schedule as opposed to sticking to our set release goals and churning out something we are not happy with. Better late than never as the saying goes! Just ten days after the targeted release date I am happy to share our first release candidate for Bodhi Linux's third major release. The most important new thing in this release is the addition of an ISO image that supports legacy hardware. The legacy ISO image features a 3.2 kernel that will work on i486 machines (or newer), including non-PAE hardware. This ISO image currently features the same E19 desktop that the other three discs have, but if all goes as planned the legacy disc will feature the E17 desktop by default starting with our second release candidate." Jeff Hoogland has announced the availability of the beta release of Bodhi Linux 3.0.0, an Ubuntu-based distribution featuring the Enlightenment 19 window manager: "It has been two months since we had our alpha release and since then Ubuntu 14.04 has released as 'stable'. That means the core for our upcoming Bodhi Linux 3.0.0 release is finally stable enough for me to stamp a 'beta' label onto it. This beta release comes in the following three flavors: 32-bit, 64-bit and Chromebook. All of these images are built directly on top of the latest Ubuntu 14.04 packages. The 32-bit and 64-bit images use the 3.13 Linux kernel, while the Chromebook image uses a 3.11 kernel due to hardware compatibility issues. The Chromebook image is tested on and designed to work with the Acer C720 and HP 14-inch Chromebooks. It could very well work with other Chromebooks, but they have not been tested." Jeff Hoogland has announced the availability of the alpha release of Bodhi Linux 3.0.0, a major update of the distribution which features the Enlightenment window manager and which is based on Ubuntu's forthcoming 14.04 release: "As promised I've put together our first Bodhi Linux disc that is built on top of the upcoming Ubuntu 14.04 release. Keep in mind that this is a very early image not intended for production machines. There will be issues. That being said, we are very interested in user feedback on our first couple pre-release discs for this version. Because we have a new major release we are trying a few different things that we want your input of. Features of note in this 3.0.0 alpha image that different from our Bodhi 2.x.y base: Ubuntu 14.04 base; Enlightenment 0.19 pre-release replaces 0.17; no more manual profile and theme selection at start up; eConnman replaces nm-applet; PulseAudio replaces ALSA as the default audio system...." Jeff Hoogland has announced the release of Bodhi Linux 2.4.0, a minimalist and "enlightened" desktop Linux distribution based on Ubuntu 12.04: "It has been close to six months since our last Bodhi Linux release - far too long! This is just our normal update release - meaning if you are already a Bodhi user and have been running your system updates then you already have all these additions running on your system. To cut right to the chase - you can find direct downloads of the ISO images on Source Forge here. You can obtain torrent downloads for the ISO images later today. Our 2.4.0 release features three ISO images to install from: 32-bit featuring a current PAE enabled kernel, 32-bit featuring a non-PAE kernel with older hardware support and 64- bit featuring a current kernel. This release features the Enlightenment 0.17.4 desktop, version 0.5.5 of the Midori web browser and the 3.8 Linux kernel. As always - our default theme selection is shaken up." Jeff Hoogland has announced the release of Bodhi Linux 2.3.0, a new version of the Ubuntu-based distribution with the latest Enlightenment window manager: "After almost exactly three months since our Bodhi 2.2.0 release the Bodhi team and I are happy to announce the next update release for our 2.x.y series - Bodhi Linux 2.3.0. Again because this is a minor update release people who are already using our 2.x.y branch can simply upgrade to this release via their package manager. As with our 2.2.0 release there are three disc downloads for this version: 32-bit featuring a current PAE enabled kernel, 32-bit featuring a non-PAE kernel with older hardware support, 64-bit featuring a current kernel. Software wise we see the following updates with this release: Linux Kernel 3.8, Enlightenment 0.17.1, Midori 0.4.9, Terminology 0.3.0, eCcess system tool, Ubiquity 2.12." Jeff Hoogland has announced the release of Bodhi Linux 2.2.0, an Ubuntu-based distribution featuring the Enlightenment 0.17 window manager as the default desktop user interface: "The Bodhi team and I are very happy to present to you our 2.2.0 release - the first Bodhi images to feature the stable E17 desktop. This release is exciting for a number of reasons. To start with, we are introducing a few new things with this update release. With this release, we will now be maintaining two 32-bit install discs: one that is PAE enabled by default and one that is not. The kernel without PAE will be an older stable kernel (in this case 3.2) while the PAE enabled kernel will be the latest kernel - for 2.2.0 this means 3.7 kernel. Our 64-bit release also comes with the 3.7 kernel. These discs are also our first released images that are hybrid ISO images." This release is considered alpha quality and is intended to allow our community to help test this release before it becomes our 'stable' version. Jeff Hoogland has announced the release of Bodhi Linux 1.2.1, a bug-fix update of the Ubuntu-based distribution featuring a highly customised Enlightenment 17 desktop: "At little over a month ago the Bodhi team and I released our second update release. We were unaware at the time that the version of GCC used to compile the kernel on this release had an issue that caused an issue for some users when compiling and inserting extra kernel modules (such as the NVIDIA drivers and VirtualBox). This update release today contains a kernel in which this issue has been resolved. If you already installed Bodhi 1.2.0 (or an earlier release) and your system is working fine (odds are it is, this issue was only affecting some users) there is no reason to install this new release. It is simply a bug-fix release so the ISO image has the updated kernel by default." Current Bodhi users can easily update their system to this latest release. This release is largely for keeping packages up to date, so the following are the core system packages that have been updated for this release: Linux kernel 3.0, Enlightenment built from SVN on 2011-09-06, Midori 0.4.0. There is more to this release than just packages though. Our document team has been working furiously to improve our documentation, both on our Wiki and our locally installed pages. Jeff Hoogland has announced the release of Bodhi Linux 0.1.7, the last development build before the inaugural stable release of the Ubuntu-based distribution with Enlightenment: "The Bodhi Linux team and I are proud to announce the release of our third and final release candidate. This release includes several important bug fixes including several that increase boot time. Bodhi pride's itself on being minimalistic so it doesn't come with much in the way of default applications. We also highly value user input and after conducting a poll we came to the conclusion that Firefox 4.0 was no longer the best default browser. After having almost a three-way split between Firefox 3.6, Firefox 4.0, and Chromium for favorite browser the team and I made the choice of going with something that was light and wouldn't take up much disc space on the default install." Jeff Hoogland has announced the availability of Bodhi Linux 0.1.6, a new release candidate for the project's inaugural stable release. Bodhi Linux is an Ubuntu-based distribution featuring the Enlightenment window manager. From the release announcement: "After three weeks of user input and a few bug reports the Bodhi team and I are happy to present our second release candidate (version number 0.1.6). This version features package updates such as Firefox 4.0 beta 11 and a number of small changes that make the system feel a bit more seamless. We have also improved the process a user goes through when first starting Bodhi; instead of having a copy of each profiles for every theme, a user now selects from six profiles and then chooses from one of seven themes. That means with six profiles and seven themes a user has 42 different configurations to choose from on their fresh install of Bodhi."
