David Loper has announced the availability of the first release candidate for ClearOS 7, an enterprise-class server distribution based on CentOS 7: "ClearOS 7.1.0 release candidate 1 is here. This release contains major improvements and insight to the eventual release of ClearOS 7 and replaces ClearOS 7.1.0 Beta 3 as the current running test release. We are excited to add Samba Directory to the mix. Samba Directory allows for Active Directory equivalent functionality using ClearOS as your Directory Server. Simple user and group administration is available for Samba Directory in the usual places in ClearOS' Webconfig. If you comply with Microsoft's EULA for the tool, you can use Microsoft's Server administration tools to modify additional aspects of your Samba Directory including Group Policy Objects. This beta is built using the new Koji build system. The change to this build system is needed now since it fundamentally changes some structure that we will need to have working smoothly throughout the 7.x release cycle." Point Clark Networks has announced the availability of the second beta release of ClarkConnect 5.0, a specialist distribution for servers and gateways based on CentOS: "ClarkConnect 5.0 Beta 2 is now available. What's new? Beta 2 is certainly more stable, but there are still quite a few rough edges. Along with the usual bug fixes, the beta 2 release has the following significant changes: an update to CentOS 5.3; a change in the package naming convention -- from cc-XYZ to app-XYZ; a first release of the bandwidth manager; content filter changes (anti-virus engine update); a functional print server/queue solution. A general cleanup of the web interface, including form validation, will be completed at a later stage. In addition, you will find the web interface to be slow in some places -- this will be optimized in a future beta release." Read the rest of the release notes for additional details. Point Clark Networks has announced the availability of the first beta release of ClarkConnect 5.0, a CentOS-based distribution designed for servers and firewalls: "ClarkConnect 5.0 Beta 1 is now available. Beta 1 is certainly more stable, but it is still very buggy. The new bandwidth and QoS manager is the only missing feature. The significant changes are: features are in better working order; Samba PDC/Simple Server modes are now working; user import is now available. Due to the nature of the new user/LDAP architecture, we recommend waiting until beta 2 before installing 5.0 in a real-world environment. This release is almost feature complete, but there are still too many known issues to start bug hunting. We will be spending the next week or so resolving the known issues -- the result will be beta 2." Read the rest of the release notes for more information. The second alpha build of ClarkConnect 5.0, a specialist distribution for servers and gateways, is ready for testing: "ClarkConnect 5.0 Alpha 2 is now available. Alpha 2 is certainly more stable, but it is still alpha quality. The significant changes are: features are in better working order; the developer environment is available; the kernel is up-to-date (notably, IMQ bandwidth QoS is integrated). There are many features that are not working in this alpha release. We have made this release public just to get some initial feedback from third-party developers, partners, and interested members of the ClarkConnect community. We always find a few outstanding issues as we approach the deadline, but no show-stoppers. The WPAD automatic proxy detection feature was dropped - issues with the DHCP server cropped up. There are still a number of known issues, the most important are: Flexshare FTP access may not work for all network interfaces; reported issues with Realtek network cards; content filter upgrade for phrase lists and black lists is not well tested; deleting a group still in use by the system may cause ugly warnings; firewall may require a restart ('Unable to commit' error)." The first beta release of ClarkConnect Gateway/Server 4.2 is ready for testing. This first beta release contains a lot of stable features along with untested new features, including mail archiving, encrypted file system support and updated content filter engine. Integrating Asterisk will require some feedback from the user community. The core of the problem is the architecture of the Zaptel Asterisk driver.
