Random Distribution |
Nova
Nova is a user-friendly, desktop-oriented Linux distribution developed by the University of Computer Sciences in Havana, Cuba. In the product's early days the operating system was based on Gentoo Linux and Sabayon Linux, but starting from version 2.1 the developers have chosen Ubuntu as the base system. The project releases three separate editions - "Escritorio" (with GNOME Shell), "Ligero" (with a Nova-developed lightweight desktop called "Guano") and "Servidor" (a variant for servers).

Andreas Heinlein has announced the release of UPR (Ubuntu Privacy Remix) 12.04r1, the new stable release of the project's Ubuntu-based live CD which provides an isolated environment for personal work and for storing sensitive data: "The UPR team has published the first stable release of Ubuntu Privacy Remix 12.04r1 (code name 'Protected Pangolin'). UPR is a live system to protect from spying and data theft. The new release will be presented at LinuxTag 2014 in Berlin. UPR 12.04r1 is designed to boot on newer machines with UEFI + SecureBoot and it supports lots of new hardware, but keeps running even on old machines by using the traditional and lightweight GNOME Classic desktop environment. The goal of Ubuntu Privacy Remix is to provide an isolated working environment where sensitive data can be dealt with safely. The system installed on the computer running UPR remains untouched, UPR is not intended for permanent installation on hard disk." Here is the full release announcement. Mark Preetorius has announced the release of a new update of Ubuntu Privacy Remix 9.04, an unofficial Ubuntu variant whose goal is to provide a completely isolated working environment and to protect data against unsolicited access: "The Ubuntu Privacy Remix team has published the fourth stable release of Ubuntu Privacy Remix. All software packages, including the kernel, were updated to their newest versions to close security holes and fix bugs. This will be the last version of Ubuntu Privacy Remix 9.04, a release candidate of its successor, version 10.04, is already available.
