Samuel F. Baggen has announced the release of Elive 3.0.0, a major update of the project's Debian-based distribution with a customised Enlightenment 17 desktop user interface. This version is based on the 32-bit variant of Debian 7 "Wheezy" and, unlike the previous stable version (2.0, released more than eight years ago), Elive 3 is free of charge and unlimited in any way: "After 8 years of silent development, the third stable version of Elive is out. The result is simply amazing and the integration is gorgeous; it is not even possible to describe every inside feature. The new website only contains a small portion of its characteristics. Unfortunately not everything is rainbows and perfection and the lack of resources delayed the release being too much. This has lead to old packages and drivers, but despite that, the final result is really worth it. Elive 3.0 is the most useful system ever made, perfect for the daily use, rock solid, beautiful and full of hidden features, with every effort to make it usable for any user level. This version is most powerful, maintaining its lightness in resources and a blazing fast responsiveness. And even better, the final stable version is entirely cost-free and limitless, with all its features." See the release announcement for further information. "This version includes the very waited integration of the drivers, when you boot Elive you will find now a dialog that asks you if you want to install the private drivers in the case that is detected in your computer. This option is remembered on the installation making your installed system directly ready with them. Also, they are installed using packages so you can easily reinstall or remove them, but for that we included everything in a simple script tool that you can use to manage your drivers, which allows you to reinstall them or switch between versions, even removing it to move the open source mode which also takes care of the depending xorg.conf file." Samuel Baggen has released a new development build of Elive, a Debian-based live CD featuring the Enlightenment 17 desktop. This version includes Compiz desktop effects. From the release announcement: "The Elive team is proud to announce the release of Elive development (Compiz) version 1.9.27. This is a major update for the Compiz series of Elive. Changes: instead of configuring Compiz from ECSM, you can now do it from a module; the cube is disabled by default due to its instability compared to the wall mode; not that the switcher (window switcher) of Compiz is ugly, but it's a bit annoying while the default switcher of E17 is a lot more powerful, configurable, and stable, so we use it as default now (it is still accessed by pressing the Win key plus the Tab key). Note: remember that these are the default configurations, you can change them to your taste!" Download the live CD from here: elive_1.9.27-compiz_unstable.iso (686MB, MD5).

A new unstable build of Elive is out: "Elive 0.5.5 development released." The release announcement hints at some reasons for the new release; as an example, those who wish to upgrade to the latest version of X.Org will find that their ATI and NVIDIA graphics drivers no longer work, a new version of GCC from Debian will prevent the proprietary kernel drivers from installing successfully without recompiling the kernel, and there is also a serious bug affecting certain SCSI-emulated CD-ROMs. The new release comes with a downgraded kernel version 2.6.15.7 and several WiFi driver modules. Please read the release announcement for more information. Download: elive_0.5.5_unstable.iso (651MB, MD5).
