NEW • Distribution Release: Estrella Roja 2.8 |

Estrella Roja 2.8, an Argentinian Linux distribution based on Debian's testing branch, but featuring the legacy KDE 3.5 desktop, has been released. According to the release announcement (in Spanish), the new version combines the relatively lightweight KDE 3.5 desktop environment with a new i686-optimised Linux kernel, version 2.6.34, with a PREEMPT patch and support for many WiFi chipsets, including Intel, Atheros, Broadcom and Realtek. Among the included packages WINE has been updated to version 1.1, Pidgin to version 2.7.1, MPlayer to the latest SVN build with support for Spanish and with skins, emesene to version 1.6.2 (with webcam support), XChat to version 2.8, and NVIDIA driver to version 173.14.25. Also included is wxDFast, a download accelerator program and rtmpdump 2.3, a console program that displays Flash streaming. Estrella Roja 2.5, a Debian-based distribution and live CD made in Argentina, has been released. This version is still based on the stable Debian GNU/Linux 5.0, but includes some stability improvements and a number of backported application updates, such as Pidgin 2.5.8 (with many plugins), Firefox 3.5.1 and Nmap 5.00. Some packages were replaced by their functional, but lighter equivalents, e.g. Network Manager has been replaced by wicd. Also includes some bug fixes to udev, new scripts, Truecrypt 6.2a and the Firestarter firewall. The KDE 3.5 theme has also been updated to a more modern variant, while new links to the distribution's web site have been added. 3CX Phone System is a specialist, Debian-based Linux distribution designed to run a complete unified communications platform. The 3CX client, included in the distribution, can also be installed separately on most hardware as well as the cloud. It provides a complete open standards-based IP PBX and phone system that works with popular SIP trunks and IP phones. It will automatically configure all supported peripherals and it also comes with clients for Windows, OS X, iOS and Android. The ISO image includes a free license for the 3CX PBX edition. The ISO image contains the standard Debian installer which installs a minimal system with the nginx web server, PostgreSQL database, iptables firewall and Secure Shell. Lineox Enterprise Linux
Lineox Enterprise Linux was based on source RPM packages from which Red Hat Enterprise Linux was compiled. Lineox Enterprise Linux contains all programs included in various Red Hat Enterprise Linux variations (Advanced Server (AS), Entry/Mid Server (ES), and Workstation (WS)). It also contains programs included in separately sold Red Hat Cluster Suite and Red Hat Developer Suite. Lineox has removed and replaced all files of Red Hat Enterprise Linux which have restrictive copyright by Red Hat, Inc. Lineox has also tried to remove all user-visible references to Red Hat in Lineox Enterprise Linux. The most notable difference between Lineox Enterprise Linux and Red Hat Enterprise Linux was the support options provided by Red Hat, Inc. Lineox, Inc. does not provide any support for Lineox Enterprise Linux with the base product. Lineox, Inc. however plans to provide binary package updates for Lineox Enterprise Linux as long as Red Hat, Inc. provides updates for Red Hat Enterprise Linux in source package format.
