GeeXboX
GeeXboX was a free and open-source media centre oriented Linux distribution for embedded devices and desktop computers. It was a full-featured operating system that can be booted from a live CD, a USB key, an SD/MMC card or it can be installed on a regular hard disk drive. The GeeXboX distribution was lightweight and designed for one single goal - to embed all major multimedia applications in order to turn any computer into a home theatre personal computer. The GeeXboX project was a non-commercial organization founded in 2002.

Freeduc-cd is a specialist live CD distribution specifically developed for use in primary schools. It is built around the light-weight XFce desktop environment and includes a large collection of educational software. Freeduc-cd 1.5, developed by the Organization for Free Software in Education and Teaching (OFSET) in cooperation with several other volunteer groups, was released recently: "Freeduc-cd 1.5 is a special version for primary education. After 9 beta releases, the new Freeduc 1.4 live CD is now ready for public consumption: "OFSET, the organization for the development of free software for education and teaching, is working with UNESCO to set up an international version of its FREEDUC distribution. FREEDUC is a GNU/Linux distribution which can be used without installation. It is specifically dedicated to the world of education and it enables an easy introduction for stakeholders of education to the 40 free software packages included on the cd-rom. A new version of Freeduc has been released. New features in 1.3: "CD-ROM ISO images of the sources are now available; dictd server with megabyte of dictionaries installed locally; Gnome-dictionary and dict client point to the local dictionary server; Galeon used as the default web browser; Fully working WIMS; add smbclient so xfsamba works correctly; remove KNOPPIX OpenOffice.org package and replace it by the official Debian one (v. 1.0.2); add German, English, Spanish, French, Italian and Portuguese language packages for openoffice.org..." Freeduc is a live CD distribution based on KNOPPIX, but with emphasis on educational software and designed to run on older hardware; it is developed by Paris-based OFSET (Organization for Free Software in Education and Teaching). The 3CX client, included in the distribution, can also be installed separately on most hardware as well as the cloud. It provides a complete open standards-based IP PBX and phone system that works with popular SIP trunks and IP phones. It will automatically configure all supported peripherals and it also comes with clients for Windows, OS X, iOS and Android. The ISO image includes a free license for the 3CX PBX edition.
