SteamOS
SteamOS is a Debian-based Linux distribution designed to run Valve's Steam and Steam games. It also provides a desktop mode (GNOME) which can run regular Linux applications. In addition to a stable Debian base, SteamOS features various third-party drivers and updated graphics stack, a newer Linux kernel with long-term support, and a custom graphics compositor designed to provide a seamless transition between Steam, its games and the SteamOS system overlay. The base operating system is open-source software, but the Steam client is proprietary.
Note: Valve discontinued its Debian-based SteamOS and launched a new, Arch-based SteamOS for the Steam Deck. This new, Arch-based system appears to only be available with the Steam Deck and is not released as a stand-alone ISO.

The GNOME-centric, KNOPPIX-based GNOPPIX Live CD has released a new beta version and announced a design contest: "There is a new GNOPPIX version available for testing (but this one has some configuration problems). Once the configuration problems are solved, we're going to release 0.5. The GNOPPIX project targets on making a linux live CD that 'just works'. But for 'just working' it's not a well configured desktop that counts, it's also a good looking one. Graphical interaction happens on many places, so please create a theme consisting of: a lilo boot screen for debian, a linux boot screen, a GDM greeting theme, a GNOME splash screen and a set of matching GTK, icon and metacity themes plus a nice background." This is the second public release of GNOPPIX Linux, version 0.4-2. As you have probably guessed, GNOPPIX Linux is a GNOME-centric live Linux CD based on KNOPPIX and designed for those who prefer the GNOME desktop environment, rather than KDE. The first version of GNOPPIX was announced only two weeks ago, so this is probably a bug fix release; unfortunately, I haven't been able to locate any changelogs, release notes or package lists (running 'dpkg -l' returns an error). The GNOPPIX Linux web site is in German. Download: gnoppix-0.4-2.iso (439MB).
