Philip Müller has announced the release of Manjaro Linux 24.1.0, an updated build of the project's rolling-release distribution with separate GNOME, KDE Plasma and Xfce editions. The new release comes with GNOME 46.5, KDE Plasma 6.1 and Linux kernel 6.10: "Since we released 'Wynsdey' in May 2024, we worked hard to get the next release of Manjaro out there. We call it Xahea. The GNOME edition has received several updates to GNOME 46 series. This includes a lot of fixes and polish when GNOME 46 originally was released in March 2024. The Plasma edition comes with the latest Plasma 6.1 series 1 and KDE Gear 24.08 1. It brings exciting new improvements to your desktop. Plasma 6 hits its stride with version 6.1. While Plasma 6.0 was all about getting the migration to the underlying Qt 6 frameworks correct, 6.1 is where developers start implementing the features that will take your desktop to a new level." Philip Müller has announced the release of Manjaro Linux 24.0, a new version of the project's rolling-release distribution with separate GNOME, KDE Plasma and Xfce editions. It introduces GNOME 46 and KDE Plasma 6, as well as the brand-new Linux kernel 6.9: "Manjaro 24.0 'Wynsdey' released. Since we released Vulcan in December 2023 we worked hard to get the next release of Manjaro out there. We call it Wynsdey. This is also our first release which comes with Plasma 6. The GNOME edition has received several updates to GNOME 46 series. This includes a lot of fixes and polish when GNOME 46 originally was released in March 2024. GNOME's file manager comes with a new global search feature in GNOME 46. Global search is a great way to jump directly into search, without having to think about where the items you want are located. The new feature also leverages GNOME's existing file search capabilities, including the ability to search the contents of files, and filter by file type and modification date." The Manjaro Linux team has published a new snapshot of the project's rolling-release distribution. The new 23.1.0 release offers up to date desktop environments with the main editions offering GNOME 45, KDE Plasma 5.27, and Xfce 4.18. "One of the most noticeable changes in GNOME 45 is the new activities button. Located in the corner of the top bar, this button was previously labelled “Activities”. In GNOME 45, this static label has been replaced with a dynamic workspace indicator. The new button design is a response to user testing results over recent years, and we are confident that its purpose will be more obvious to new GNOME users. As part of this change, the old app menu (which showed the name of the currently focused app), was also retired. This retirement was another response to user testing results, and was required to make space for the new design. Search performance has been a major area of work for GNOME 45. These performance improvements have been made to a range of apps, including Software, Characters, Clocks, Files, and Calculator. Together, these changes result in faster search and reduced resource usage, which can be seen in both individual apps and in system search." Additional highlights are presented in the project's release announcement. Philip Müller has announced the release of Manjaro Linux 23.0, a significant update of the project's rolling-release distribution featuring GNOME, KDE Plasma and Xfce editions. The new version brings GNOME 44, KDE Plasma 5.27 LTS and Xfce 4.18, together with a cutting-edge Linux kernel, version 6.5: "Manjaro 23.0 'Uranos' released. The GNOME edition has received several updates to GNOME 44 series. This includes a lot of fixes and polish when GNOME 44 originally was released in March 2023. GNOME's file chooser dialogs have only ever had a list view, which is great when you want to pick a file based on its name, but isn’t so good when picking files based on their thumbnails. Over the years, GNOME users have therefore repeatedly requested that a grid view be added to the file chooser. This has been one of the most positively received changes in our history, so we are confident that people will like it added in this release cycle. The Plasma edition comes with the latest Plasma 5.27 LTS series and KDE Gear 23.08. It brings exciting new improvements to your desktop." Continue to the release announcement for further information. Philip Müller has announced the availability of the first release candidate for the upcoming Manjaro Linux 21.0: "We are happy to publish our release candidate of Manjaro Linux 21.0, named 'Ornara'. Our last 'Nibia' release was from January and a lot of things have changed between those releases. For once, we dropped GNOME Initial Setup routine from our ISO images. It was nice to try it out, but the overall feedback was not so great. The GNOME edition has got exciting new features: GNOME 3.38 replaces the previously split Frequent and All app views with a single customizable and consistent view that allows you to reorder applications and organize them into custom folders. Manjaro Linux is a rolling release distribution based on Arch Linux. The project has published a new stable release, Manjaro Linux 18.0. The new release runs version 4.19 of the Linux kernel, which is a long term support kernel. There have been a number of fixes to the Pamac package manager and updates to the Manjaro Settings Manager. "Kernel 4.19 LTS is used for this release, such as the latest drivers available to date. Relative to the last installation media release, our tools have been improved and polished. The Manjaro Settings Manager (MSM) now provides an easy-to-use graphical interface for installing and removing the many series of kernels we offer. Manjaro's selection of readily available kernels remains the most extensive of all Linux distribution we know of. At the time of this release, eight kernel-series are available directly from our binary repositories, ranging from the mature & rock-solid 3.16 series to the latest 4.19 release. Additionally we offer three realtime kernel series. Such a wide array of available kernel options results in extensive hardware support, getting the most out of your system for you, be it old or new." The Manjaro Linux project has announced the availability of Manjaro Linux 15.12 "i3" and "bspwm" editions, two interesting variants of the distribution that features two of the less popular, but no less interesting window managers - i3 (a dynamic tiling window manager featuring extended Xinerama support) and bspwm (a tiling window manager that represents windows as the leaves of a full binary tree). The "i3" variant (release announcement with a screenshot is an official Manjaro product, while the "bspwm" flavour is the latest addition to the project's growing number of community-built Manjaro variants: "We are happy to announce a new addition to our community editions, bspwm edition. Bspwm is a manual tiling window manager based on binary space partitioning that features intuitive mouse and keyboard controls. Compared with our i3 edition, it is more minimalistic and CLI-oriented, with the 64-bit edition booting at 105 MB of RAM used. The Manjaro Linux developers have published a new release candidate which includes a number of significant package upgrades. The new development release, Manjaro Linux 15.12-rc2, upgrades the Plasma desktop, LibreOffice and Firefox. Perhaps most importantly, the new release candidate upgrades the GNU compiler, breaking ABI compatibility with older packages. "This is one of the biggest updates we did so far. Mostly due the C++ 11 ABI change within GCC. It is recommended to rebuild your AUR packages for this ABI. With this we are finally dropping Plasma 4 for good. All users of this desktop should either switch over to Plasma 5 or any other maintained desktop, like LXQt. So what changed? We have now Plasma 5.5 with all its goodies, updated Mesa, LibreOffice 4 and 5 series. Firefox 43 is using now GTK3. You might need to check your themes if you have unwanted graphical issues due this change. However we fixed Menda, so you should be fine with that theme." Roland Singer has announced the release of Manjaro Linux 0.8.1, an Arch-based Linux distribution featuring the latest Xfce desktop: "Exactly one month after we released our first beta of Manjaro Linux, here is our first point-release in our 0.8 series. Most people criticized that Manjaro wasted to much RAM. We replaced LightDM with LXDM, specially patched to have a better theme support. Of course we needed a nice Manjaro theme for LXDM. The only problem is that there are no LXDM themes available. So I sat down last night with a cup of coffee and started coding. To have a nice login interface I wanted to add a transparent black background to the login area. This required some patching in the LXDM greeter.
