Univention Corporate Server (UCS) is an enterprise-class distribution based on Debian GNU/Linux. The project has published an update to its 5.0 series which introduces blocklists for the Univention Directory Manager. "A new feature in UCS is “blocklists” for the Univention Directory Manager (UDM). This feature allows UDM to block previously used values for specific attributes. One possible use case would be preventing the unintentional reuse of an email address, which could potentially lead to one user accessing another user’s emails: a user had the email address “smith@company.com,” then leaves the company, and their account is deleted. Shortly after, a new user “smith” is created. Now, UDM can prevent the creation because “smith@company.com” would be used as the email address again. Blocking old email addresses occurs automatically when the feature is activated (it is initially deactivated) and the corresponding blocklists are created. The blocklists can also be managed with a UMC module." Additional information can be found in the distribution's release announcement and in the release notes. Univention Corporate Server (UCS) is an enterprise-class distribution based on Debian GNU/Linux. The project's latest release focuses on bug fixes and tightening security. "In the last three months we have released 47 security updates, most of them from the Debian base distribution. However, we have also fixed security-relevant errors in the Univention packages, e.g. password leaks via the process list. We have also further stabilized the Univention Management Console (UMC) when connecting to the individual UMC modules. We have improved the way the Univention Directory Manager (UDM) handles inconsistent user capitalization. Some data is now updated atomically by the portal, which avoids certain error patterns, and the self service now translates the forms correctly in all cases." Univention Corporate Server (UCS) is an enterprise-class distribution based on Debian GNU/Linux. The distribution is transitioning to a new base, using Debian 12 as its foundation, and Unvention has published a new alpha snapshot to test the new technologies. "UCS 5.2 will be based on the latest stable Debian version: Debian 12 “Bookworm”. This includes new versions of PostgreSQL and MariaDB, Docker and OpenLDAP, among others. The Alpha version has already completed this step, all packages from Debian have been adopted and partially rebuilt with our enhancements. Especially for application providers it is worth to have a look already today. Early testing ensures that the app will be available in the App Center on the day UCS 5.2 is released. UCS 5.2 now also comes with Keycloak as our single sign-on solution. We have already described the long road to this here. Keycloak is already functional in the Alpha version and will be even more integrated in the final version." Additional information is provided in the release announcement. Univention Corporate Server is an enterprise-class distribution based on Debian GNU/Linux. The distribution has received a minor update, Univention Corporate Server (UCS) 5.0-5 which introduces new functionality to the management console along with a number of bug fixes. "Univention Corporate Server 5.0-5 is the fifth point release for Univention Corporate Server (UCS) 5.0. It contains all erratas released since version 5.0-4 for bug fixes, performance improvements and security updates for Samba, Linux, OpenSSH, Bind and Python, among others. UCS 5.0-5 is available in the 'Software Update' module and can be found in our download area. In total, the new point release includes 28 security updates that we have provided since the last UCS point release, such as those for Samba, Linux, OpenSSH, Bind, and Python. We have also implemented various bug fixes in the Univention Management Console (UMC) environment and upgraded some UMC modules to the new capabilities that have been available with the UMC server since the fundamental change from UCS 5.0-4. In the future, we will be able to significantly reduce the memory consumption of UMC during operation in certain cases. Also worth mentioning is the new option of explicitly setting an empty value or deleting the value in the UMC module for the Univention Config Registry (UCR)." Addiitonal information is provided in the release announcement and in the release notes. Download: UCS_5.0-5-amd64.iso (1,011MB, MD5, pkglist).

Univention Corporate Server (UCS) is an enterprise-class distribution based on Debian GNU/Linux. It features an integrated management system for central administration of servers. The project has published a new update to its 5.0 series which streamlines the Management Console Server and Web Server programs. There have also been a number of Samba updates with a focus on improved performance. "Univention Management Console Server and Web Server are now merged into a single program and the implementation uses Tornado instead of the UCS specific Python Notifier. The integration of Keycloak has been improved for operation with accessibility from the Internet, for outgoing passwords and for the migration of existing SimpleSAMLPHP based connections. We will inform you about details of the upcoming Keycloak developments in a separate blog article. At radius it is now possible to add the user name mailPrimaryAddress to register, which guarantees more flexibility when registering. Samba has been updated to version 4.18.3. The latest version of Samba contains numerous optimizations that lead to improved performance. Upstream maintenance is also ensured by using the latest Samba version." Univention Corporate Server (UCS) is an enterprise-class distribution based on Debian. The distribution's 5.0 series has been updated, bringing new features, improved performance, and some new security options. "Determine group membership of users faster: The group membership of a user in UCS is now conveyed via the 'memberof' attribute of the user. This means you no longer have to search across all groups for a user but can access a cache on the user object that contains this information. This considerably speeds up the search for group membership. Synchronisation of password history: With the new UCS version, to prevent the use of passwords that have already been used, a user's passwords that have been used in the past are stored in a history. For this purpose, UCS saves hashes of the passwords in the history. In the past, the history was saved individually by the system that processes the password change - this can be OpenLDAP (for changes via UDM and Kerberos), Samba4 (for changes via desktop systems in the UCS domain) or Active Directory (when using the AD connector)." Univention Corporate Server (UCS) is an enterprise-class distribution based on Debian GNU/Linux. It features an integrated management system for central administration of servers. The distribution's latest update includes improved virtual local area network (VLAN) management: With version 5.0-2, RADIUS now also allows administrators to assign dedicated VLANs to specific user groups. For example, visitors can be assigned access to a dedicated guest VLAN that allows access only to the Internet, but not to the organization's internal network. This is an important feature for increasing network security. For more info, see the blog article Service-specific Password for RADIUS. Minor enhancements and bug fixes have been released for the App Center, which in detail can be found in the release notes. Here, we have focused on porting more apps to UCS 5 as well as the deployment of new apps." Additional information can be found in the distribution's release announcement and in the release notes. Univention Corporate Server (UCS) is an enterprise-class distribution based on Debian GNU/Linux. It features an integrated management system for central administration of servers. The project's latest release is an update to the 5.x series which improves user account management. "Administrators can specify an activation date when creating a new user account. User accounts with an activation date in the future are deactivated after creation and are only activated on this date. Thus, user accounts can be created in advance and UCS automatically takes care of the staggered activation. For the creation of users, there is a wizard in UCS that asks for all the required information. Administrators can specify additional attributes as required for a user account in addition to those already required, such as last name, user name, and password, for example, the e-mail address. As soon as additional attributes are defined, they are now also displayed in the UCS 5.0-1 wizard when users are created. This guarantees that administrators can also assign customized values for these attributes and not only the default values are used." Univention Corporate Server (UCS) is an enterprise-class distribution based on Debian GNU/Linux. It features an integrated management system for central administration of servers. The distribution's latest release is Univention Corporate Server 5.0-0 which is based on Debian 10 and uses a new dark theme for the web interface. "The fifth major release of Univention Corporate Server is ready and available for download. UCS 5.0 contains new features, has a fresh look, comes with several improvements and bug fixes. The new version also uses a new core: UCS 5.0 is based on Debian 10 (Buster) and Python 3. In this blog post, I would like to introduce the most important changes, give tips for the upgrade process and reveal what we’re planning for future releases. Univention Corporate Server features a new dark look, also visible during the installation, which gives the distribution a modern and elegant, yet tidy touch. The clean look is also present in the web interface: many areas have been visually reduced. The tiles in the portal, for example, now appear in a new colour theme." Univention Corporate Server is an enterprise-class distribution based on Debian. It features an integrated management system for central administration of servers. The distribution's latest release is Univention Corporate Server 4.4-8 which improves the performance of the distribution's web-based services and paves the way for a smooth upgrade from the 4.4 series to 5.0. "The performance of the UMC web server in large environments where there are many requests has improved. For this purpose, the UMC web server has changed from single to multi-processing. Thus, it can no longer run in one process only, but in several processes, to actively use several CPU cores, at the same time. The number of processes used is configurable and should not exceed the available CPU cores. In particular, large UCS environments with many login requests in a short period benefit from this change. Advanced Parameterization of Docker-based Apps. App developers from the Univention App Center can now store the call command for their Docker-based apps as a UCR template. Therefore, they can enable further parameters for their app." Additional information can be found in the company's release announcement. Download: UCS_4.4-8-amd64.iso (1,300MB, MD5, pkglist). |

Univention Corporate Server (UCS) is an enterprise-class distribution based on Debian GNU/Linux. The distribution's latest development snapshot improves the application centre and polishes the Univention Management Console. "Since the beta release, we have significantly expanded the App Center. During the implementation of the largely redesigned user interface of UCS 5, we have significantly improved its clarity and simplified access to functions even more. We were able to clearly improve the App Center’s handling of dependencies between individual apps: If an app requires the installation of another app in advance, the installation of all required apps will now be executed in one go. Take the Admin Diary Frontend as an example. It requires the installation of the backend component for data storage. Up to now, dependencies were recognized and requested, but the installation of the individual apps had to be done separately, one after the other. A completely new feature is to select several apps in the frontend and to install, update or uninstall them in one step. For this purpose, all required app information and setup questions are collected by the App Center which then carries out the (un-)installation or the necessary updates in a single step. This facilitates the commissioning and updating of UCS environments significantly." Additional information can be found in the project's release announcement. Univention Corporate Server is an enterprise-class distribution based on Debian GNU/Linux. It features an integrated management system for central administration of servers and Microsoft Active Directory-compatible domain services. The project's latest snapshot, Univention Corporate Server 5.0-0 Beta, introduces a number of changes to the user interface. "The most obvious change is the modernized design of UCS 5, which can already be seen during the installation process. In the default configuration, UCS will appear darker and, in our opinion, more elegant and uncluttered. We have visually reduced many areas and defined simpler shapes with a clearer color language, for example, for the "tiles" in the portal. As the changes in the beta are very obvious, the status of an "unfinished" beta version becomes clearly visible, in particular in this area. A lot of work is currently being done on the look and feel of UCS 5. In many places, the interfaces are still incomplete or partly still use visualizations from UCS 4." Univention Corporate Server is an enterprise-class distribution based on Debian. It features an integrated management system for central administration of servers. The distribution's latest release is Univention Corporate Server 4.4-7 which improves single sign-on security and introduces a customizable cookie banner for administrators working within the European Union. "The new UCS version 4.4-7 also supports this feature when a user is logged in via SAML using single sign-on (SSO). While we were at it, we added some extra security - after all, SSO is a central service that allows access to all authorized programs and services. Users with an expired password who enter an incorrect password in the password change dialog used to receive a corresponding message. This allowed unauthorized persons to find out whether a password for a particular account had expired. With UCS 4.4-7, this is no longer possible. In addition, certain files created by the listener on the server now receive correct file permissions. This way they're available for the SAML service, but not for other users. Cookie Banner for the UCS Portal - cookies may only be stored on users' computers if they have explicitly agreed to it." Further details can be found in the release announcement. Univention Corporate Server (UCS) is an enterprise-class distribution based on Debian GNU/Linux. The distribution's latest release is Univention Corporate Server 4.4-6 which improves upon existing features. "We have released the sixth point release: UCS 4.4-6 contains bug fixes, security updates and improvements as well as new features. For example, our developers have enhanced the Self Service, the App Center and the UCS Portal. In this article I would like to offer a look behind the scenes and present the most important new features. UCS Self Service: New Features for the App. View of the account creation interface of the UCS app (version 4.4-6) Creating an account has become even easier than before with the new UCS version. A great advantage of Univention Corporate Server is that users can use their credentials to log into completely different computers and also have access to all services in the UCS domain. With the initial 4.4 release, we introduced the new app Self Service, which allows users to make changes to their personal data - they don't need admin rights for that. This includes changing and resetting the password as well as editing the contact information. The new UCS version 4.4-6 lets administrators customize the texts which users see in the corresponding dialog boxes." Univention Corporate Server (UCS) is an enterprise-class distribution based on Debian GNU/Linux. The distribution's latest release introduces LDAP improvements and single sign-on features: "The release of version 4.4-5 of Univention Corporate Server (UCS) brings a series of technical innovations for the Single Sign-on of users to applications connected to UCS. There are also new functions for the UCS Self Service. Users can now register themselves at a UCS domain via the User Self Service and create a user account, assign a user name and password, and store further information. Performance improvements in the LDAP directory service have accelerated the replication of groups. And in preparation for UCS 5.0, which is scheduled for release at the end of this year, our development department has made more than 45 UCS packages compatible with Python 3. So when you upgrade to UCS 5.0, the corresponding code parts in UCS will run for both Python 2 and Python 3." Univention Corporate Server (UCS) is an enterprise-class distribution based on Debian GNU/Linux. The project's latest release is an update to the distribution's 4.4 series: 4.4-3. "With this release, we have found a solution to three challenges: first, we fixed problems with upgrading Docker which occurred in older UCS installations. These had led us to delay the update to UCS 4.4-2 for some environments and to extend the maintenance of UCS 4.4-1 in order to give all users sufficient time to perform updates. Less common, but all the trickier were two other cases. With some Samba 4 shares, newer versions of Windows Explorer could crash when accessing the security settings. This was caused by extended file system permissions in connection with local user accounts not stored in LDAP. From this Samba generated status codes unknown to Windows. The second and similarly difficult to pinpoint case in an Open Source software used by us was a startup problem of OpenLDAP, which only occurred with a very rare constellation of contents at the end of the database file. We were able to isolate both problems, solve them in UCS and make patches available to the OSS projects." Additional information can be found in the distribution's release announcement. Univention Corporate Server (UCS) is an enterprise-class distribution based on Debian GNU/Linux. The project's latest release is an update to the distribution's 4.4 series: 4.4-2. "We've just published the second point release for UCS 4.4. Apart from some bug fixes and corrections, we've also implemented some new features and, of course, we've put some work into numerous apps. Final Version of the UDM REST API: Looking back at the first point release (UCS 4.4-1 in June 2019), our REST API for the Univention Directory Manager was still in beta stadium. Good news: the interface for accessing the directory service is stable now. The API connects applications to the UCS directory service; access is granted via a web service using HTTPS, and data is exchanged JSON format. So, the REST API offers the same functionality as the udm command line tool. For example, it simplifies the maintenance of user properties or computer objects from connected systems. Developers of applications offered in the Univention App Center also benefit from the new, standardized access because they are no longer limited to the UDM Python interface." Univention Corporate Server (UCS) is an enterprise-class distribution based on Debian GNU/Linux. The project's latest version is an update to the distribution's 4.4 release, bringing with it performance improvements and application recommendations based on what administrators have installed previously. "The most obvious change is certainly the new app suggestion system in the Univention App Center. Based on the apps already installed in the UCS environment, administrators receive recommendations for suitable supplementary apps. These recommendations are based on the most common already existing combinations, e.g. the combined use of apps like Nextcloud or ownCloud with the Let's Encrypt application. Another improvement was the handling of interruptions during updates in the App Center. UCS 4.4-1 also brings a whole range of improvements to the area of Windows Services. Thus there are changes in the integration of Samba when dealing with server-side Windows profiles, in that the respective paths are now hidden in the file share, so that users no longer damage their profile unintentionally." Univention Corporate Server (UCS) is an enterprise-class distribution based on Debian GNU/Linux. The project's latest release is Univention Corporate Server 4.4-0, which is based on Debian 9 "Stretch". "Univention is pleased to announce the availability of Univention Corporate Server (UCS) 4.4-0, the fourth minor release of UCS 4. It provides several feature improvements and extensions, new properties as well as various improvements and bug fixes. Here is an overview of the most important changes: With this release the new app Admin Diary is available, with which administrative events of all UCS instances of a domain can be viewed and evaluated centrally. Changes to users, groups or other objects in the directory service can be tracked just as easily as updates to servers or (de-)installations of apps. The Admin Diary is delivered as two components: a backend for data storage in an SQL database and a frontend for integration into the UMC. Recording of events is part of UCS 4.4 and is automatically activated when the backend is installed. The self-service app has been enhanced in two areas: End users can now use the self-service web interface not only for changing passwords, but also for editing their own contact information." Stefan Gohmann has announced the release of Univention Corporate Server (UCS) 4.3-3, the latest update of the project's Debian-based distribution for servers with a web-based administration system: "Third point release for Univention Corporate Server (UCS) 4.3 is now available. It includes a number of important updates and various new features. The portal is the starting point for many UCS users and administrators. As described in the blog article Design the UCS Portal with Drag & Drop, you can adapt it very easily to your needs. The 'Applications' and 'Administration' categories were static until now. We have extended the portal so that you can now define your own categories. In addition, you can add static links to the portal. In many environments different users should be shown different tiles. To do this, the group members for whom a particular tile is displayed are stored in the tiles. Previously, you could only assign each tile to one group. With UCS 4.3-3 you can now assign several groups to each tile. As soon as a user is a member of one of these groups, the corresponding tile will be displayed." Univention Corporate Server (UCS) is a Debian-based server distribution that offers an integrated management system for central administration of servers, Microsoft Active Directory-compatible domain services, and functions for parallel operation of virtualised server and desktop operating systems. The Univention team has published a point release update for the distribution's 4.3 series, Univention Corporate Server 4.3-2. The new version contains mostly bug fixes and minor updates as listed in the distribution's release announcement: "During the upgrade to new UCS release- or patchlevel versions, the Univention Management Console is put into maintenance mode. While the maintenance mode is active, the progress of the update is displayed on a simple web page. Samba has been updated to version 4.7.8. For security reasons, authentication with NTLMv1 is no longer allowed. If there are still old systems or applications in use that absolutely need NTLMv1, this can be reactivated via the Univention Configuration Registry. The AD connector has been enhanced with tools to synchronize individual objects or entire subtrees again and to specifically remove rejects. Various security updates have been integrated into UCS 4.3-2, e.g. Apache 2, the Linux kernel and Samba 4." The release notes contain further details. Univention Corporate Server (UCS) is an enterprise-class distribution based on Debian GNU/Linux. The developers have published a new release, version UCS 4.3-0. The latest version is based on Debian 9 and now uses an unmodified Debian kernel. The distribution also features new Samba packages and improved SAML authentication. "We are very happy to announce the availability of Univention Corporate Server (UCS) 4.3. Considerable highlights are: UCS 4.3 is based on Debian GNU/Linux 9 (Stretch). More than 20,000 source packages have been updated and some have been adapted to the needs of UCS users. The Linux kernel of Debian GNU/Linux is now used unmodified. This greatly improves compatibility to hardware and software which has been certified for Debian 9. Also new in UCS 4.3 are e.g. MariaDB and Nagios 4. The portal pages introduced with the UCS 4.2 gave users a simple way to access applications relevant to them. With UCS 4.3, administrators can easily build and manage these portals in visual composer mode and via drag and drop. It is now also possible to show different content to different users, depending on their group membership, permissions, department, branch or school. With UCS 4.3, SAML authentication is linked to the Kerberos login." Additional details can be found in the company's release announcement. Download: UCS_4.3-0-amd64.iso (1,217MB, MD5, pkglist). |

Univention Corporate Server (UCS) is a Debian-based Linux distribution for enterprise server environments. The Univention team has announced the release of Univention Corporate Server 4.2-0. The new version shifts the distribution's base from Debian 7 to Debian 8 which also transitions UCS from using SysV init to the systemd init software. "We are very happy to announce the availability of Univention Corporate Server (UCS) 4.2. Considerable highlights are: The Debian base in UCS was changed from Debian 7 (Wheezy) to Debian 8 (Jessie). The entire Debian distribution will no longer be rebuilt. This allows security updates to be released even faster, and binary compatibility is increased. This change also involves the switch of the default start-up system to systemd. However, all previous init scripts are still started, so that the apps can be migrated successively. A configurable web portal provides an overview of the services installed in the domain. If there is more than one UCS system in the domain, an overview of servers is displayed." Further information on UCS 4.2-0 can be found in the company's release announcement and release notes. Download: UCS_4.2-0-amd64.iso (1,122MB, MD5, pkglist). |

The developers of Univention Corporate Server (UCS), a Debian-based server distribution with Active Directory compatible domain services, have published a new release. The new version, Univention Corporate Server 4.1-0, features updates to a number of key packages, including the Linux kernel and Samba, and also includes support for Docker contains in the distribution's App Center. "The Univention App Center integrates the container technology Docker. With Docker, it is possible to run Apps separately and encapsulated from each other. This increases the security of the UCS domain and reduces the dependencies of the Apps on other software libraries. The integration of Docker is transparent to the users. The App Center will automatically perform the start-up and configuration of the Docker containers. The Univention App Center's usability has been improved further. Apps are now displayed more clearly. The App detail pages have been cleaned up and supplemented by a rating in the categories Vendor Supported, Popularity's Award and Editor's Award. The classification is based on data such as the installation base of the Apps or the maintenance behaviour of the app providers. Thus, the transparency and comparability of Apps are increased." The developers of Univention Corporate Server (UCS), an enterprise-class server distribution based on Debian, have announced an update to the UCS 4.0 series. The new release, which carries the version number 4.0-3, ships with a number of important features and enhancements. " The mail server Dovecot has been integrated as standard IMAP/POP3 server into UCS and offers an alternative to the still available Cyrus IMAP server. More information is available in this blog article. The compatibility to Active Directory has been improved with the Samba update to 4.2.3. This includes, among others, improvements in the DRS replication and the printer driver handling. In addition, the join of Huawai storage systems in the Active Directory domain provided by UCS is now also possible. Several enhancements in design and usability of the Univention Management Console have been implemented. For example, it is now possible to use the forward and back buttons of the web browser. This allows a simpler and faster navigation in the management interface. LDAP filters can now be defined for LDAP policies. That means the LDAP policy applies only to the objects that match the LDAP filter. This makes it possible to use LDAP policies in an easy and generic way especially in large environments. The Linux kernel has been updated to the latest stable version of the 3.16 long term kernel. This includes several security updates as well as new and updated drivers for a better hardware support."
